2022 Honda Pioneer 520 4x4 - Full In Depth Walk Around - All You Need To You

Hey thanks for stopping by! Today wer’re checking out the Honda Pioneer 520. I swear every time we get one of these UTV’s in stock I become more and more of a fan! No really, I truly enjoy driving the Pioneer 520…..dare I say, more than I like driving the 700. I think Honda made a great choice sticking the 5 speed transmission in this machine along with adding the very large dumping rear bed, and throwing in an extra 20cc engine displacement.
If you’re in search of a great, reliable, go-to, inexpensive side by side….look no further. Hands down this is my absolutely favorite UTV in the 500cc market. Aside from the Ranger 570, but that’s another video!

I have a 2021 520. Love it. Absolutely love it. As someone mentioned... it does shift kind of jerky in auto.... It doesnt shift like an Accord... thats for sure.... but it is awesome. I particularly like sitting on the tailgate with a beer... with those perfectly placed beer holders. As they say, there is no storage... but you can buy accessories that mount to the cage that may actually be better for not a lot of money. Or even jerry rig something you already have. Not a big deal. I disagree that these tires will not tear up your lawn. Unless it is really dry and you are very careful.... it will dig up your yard.... thats the bad news. Good news... it is great for creating your own trails.

I have a 2021 pioneer 520. And really like it I have yet to get it stuck around the farm in mud or snow I use the bed a lot it makes chores easier. My 2 complaints is it rides a little stiff and shifts hard in the auto mode. I mainly keep it in the standard mode. I bought for chores and take to the smaller trails. My top speed is 39 mph. Plenty of torque and my dogs love riding in it.

Hey there Bill! Glad to hear about your experience with the Pioneer so far. I totally understand where you're coming from on the suspension and shifting. And I agree, the auto could stand to be a little smoother. I think because the machine only goes up to 40mph they have it geared pretty low I suppose. Sounds like you and the doggos are enjoying the ride so far!! Thank you for your remarks!

I own a pioneer 520. I also gave my pioneer 500 to my son. Both are great machines. I had 4,000 trouble free miles on the P500. By the way I am 6'2" and weigh 290 dressed and I have no problems driving either machine. It is a great work machine, hunting machine and woods machine. If your looking for a fast machine to run dirt roads with, this is not it. Ben, I hope this clears up any big man that thinks it is too small. It's not.I tried the 700 and because of the 3 speed I passed on it. I also prefer the 50 in machine for riding in the woods. I go everywhere the big machines go and places they can not. I really like my Pioneer 520.

Hey boss thank you so much for your input! You answered just about every single question we get on the Pioneer 520 and I’m very happy to know you and your Son both enjoy your Pioneers. I’m not going to lie, I think the 520 is an overall smoother operating machine than the 700. Perhaps if Honda would put a 5 speed in the 700 it wouldn’t be as bad. But thanks again for your input! You hit the nail right on the head.

Bought the 2023 red model. Added factory roof, windscreen, bigger bumper. Also winch , cabin and cargo lights, voltmeter , bigger wheels and tires. Heated seat pads from Walmart. Extra 12v outlets, solar panel on roof, studs in tire lugs for ice fishing. Trailer hitch to pull my ice shack. GPS sometimes for trail riding. It’s pretty slow but I expected that. This has been a great machine so far. Most of the accessories should have been standard from Honda considering the premium price point.

I had a '16 p500 and on paper it seemed like just the ticket for me but it was burning an alarming amount of oil by 5000 km. I maintained it by the book since I had intended to keep it for a long time but sold it after 4 years. Frame rust, frame rust, frame rust.. rocks and dirt kicked up by the front tires blasted all the paint off the frame and the rust spread back from there. I actually had to remove the gas tank, floor and side panels to wire wheel and repaint the lower part of the frame with VHT when I was getting ready to sell it in 2020. For the price, they could have include some plastic guards to protect the frame like Yamaha does. You sit right on the engine so it's way too loud and way too hot. There's all the space in the world for a glove box but you can't even get one as an accessory from Honda. Rear cargo rack was a bit useless and this has been fixed but the other issues are still enough to turn me off when I'm in the market again next year.

4 month wait to receive it in the color I preferred but is worth the wait. It's Honda solid in every department. Paid full retail plus ridiculous take advantage surcharges but it's a sign of the tyrannical times...I cringe and am disgusted or can do without. Anyway, I like the machine and abundant quality. It's smallish, I'm a big bodied guy, but it's a huge advantage over the oversized and overpriced behemoths all around. Accessories (Honda) are ridiculously priced so be creative and either make do or jury-rig something that works for you.

Thanks for the video. Have several questions. I have a 2022 Honda Pioneer 520. Yesterday, I had a bad time getting stuck in the snow. It took several hours to accomplish getting out. I was using two traction board's. First question is do you recommend installing a locker to make it a true four wheel drive? As I was trying to get out of my situation, I had a front tire spinning in the snow and the other front tire not moving. I read somewhere, that if you press the gas pedal and the brake at the same time it would engage the tire that was not moving. Not sure if this is correct, but did not work for me. In the process I lost some of the frame caps. Is it a good idea to replace them? I read where that could help with rust in the future. Any idea what the cost would be to have the lockers installed? Thanks for you time.

I bought my Pioneer 500 about 3 years ago and I love it. I've added so many mods to it the list would fill a book. I've not drilled one hole or cut anything and much of the stuff was bought on the cheap, like a golf cart windshield, car roof rack for the front, pickup truck tool boxes, or homemade stuff from bits and pieces of things I had or found. Use your imagination for what you want and go for it. The only thing that might be a little bit better is the top-end speed, but I see that the 520 should have helped with that. Get yourself a load of fun.

Can't find these machines anywhere. Called every local dealer around me and even searched nearby states. There are none of these in stock anywhere in the northeast and numerous dealers told me on the phone that Honda is not shipping any new ones on their upcoming manifests and the very small number that have come in were sold before they hit the lot. I only just started thinking about buying one of these, but it looks like it's not gonna be in the cards for me unless the supply situation improves

I’m in Canada and the availability here seems to be scarce I guess they’re a popular machine but the 23 pricing is not even available online yet and there’s only two colours available in Canada. I would’ve went for the camo but they only had gray and red so I ordered the gray for the earthy colour closest thing to camo. I’m anxiously awaiting my place in line for the next shipment I suppose

The power is decent. It’s what you would expect almost out of a 500cc ATV really. It has good low end torque but it does lack in the horsepower region. Not a whole lot of top end….which shouldn’t be a huge issue considering these are racing side by sides or anything. A customer of mine says he absolutely loves his. He has owned it for well over a year now. Lives in hilly areas. Uses his for fire wood, mulching, yard work…etc. He also put a winch on it which he’s used just a handful of times. Hey Ken! I’m actually the same height. Surprisingly the leg room is just enough. I’m not bumping my legs or knees into the dash or anything. Pretty roomy for a small machine.

Can the Pioneer 520 be used for a hunting rig out in the desert southwest? Looking at getting an ATV but saw your video and like the fact that the Pioneer can carry two people and is within our price range.

Hey there! This would definitely be a great machine to take out hunting. It’s quiet. Has the dump bed. 1000lb. Towing capacity. You can load it down with some extra fuel cans as well if need be.

That's how you say you don't know squat without saying you don't know squat. I wrote a lot of ATVs for years before my first side by side which is this 520. The way Honda has this geared rides like a 750 ATV... It has that much power. Who cares what the number is

Good grief Honda for the ridiculous high price you are asking for these you can't put a glove box or a winch on one of these? I think I will buy a Hisun from Lowes that comes with all the options for thousands less than you want for one of these.

Hey there David! Except for the camp version, the Pioneer 520 is only $9,599. I do agree they could have put a glove box in this machine but just be aware with hisun. I worked at a hisun dealer for a VERY short time and had nothing but bad experiences with them and terrible feedback from customers. The good thing with Honda is parts are easy to get. I remember hisun either not having common items in stock OR taking a crazy amount of time to get parts. Good luck with your search my friend!

Your heads really going to explode when you find out some dealers are getting 3k over msrp right now. To compare this to a hisun is somewhat comical. I think you should go to Harbor Freight and get one.
