5 YEARS with a Honda Pioneer and NOW We Have an ISSUE
Many people have asked for an update on our how we like using our Honda Pioneer on our farm. I wanted to do a video update when I had something to report and that time has come. We had our first equipment failure on the side by side.
Be sure to subscribe to our channel and support our efforts by giving us a thumbs up.

I’ll guess…a relay or some type of fuse for an electrical component. Edit - welp, I was completely wrong but good for you. Thank you for the update, these are the videos that help small farmers choose equipment. Real life reviews.
Great video Troy. Glad to hear your pioneer is working good for you. For 22 years I've had a atv/mower/fabrication shop for my side hustle. A guy at church has a 2022 pioneer 1000 that experienced the dreaded clutch lock up. It was mostly his fault but he is still getting jacked around at the dealer about replacing the clutch pack. I did some research for him and found that some of the 700's and 1000's simply use some oil with no smoke or leaks. So, he did run it low on oil and he NEVER used low range(so, obviously he never read the owners manual). He doesn't work his as hard as you do and we're in n. central florida so, terrain is mostly flat as a parking lot. But he does do a lot of spraying at very slow speeds with a boom sprayer. So, that prolonged slow speed crawling in high range is just asking for clutch problems. And those clutches are not cheap. I tell every customer that comes through my shop with anything that has low range, to always use it when operating under 20mph. It might be slightly different for the honda's but you get the idea. I would guess by looking at the terrain on your farm you probably never use high range lol. My brother-in-law had his driver door latch do the same as yours, twice. The second time he ordered a spare and keeps in the glove box. He had an striker alignment issue that I corrected for him that may have contributed to the failure. I love your simple, down to earth video content, keep up the good work brother! You concerned me at the beginning of the video. I started seeing smoke behind your pioneer and I thought "awe man, he is about to tell us that thing is burning oil". lol

Thank you for the update, it's greatly appreciated 👍
Sir your audio and video production skills are top notch.
Great show Troy, I think you beat the heck out of that thing with all your hills. It just keeps gone.
Been riding Honda since '87 and will continue to ride Honda still own 2 300's that just wont die
Like their generators, they go on and on and on as long as some care is given. Great video!
I have a 2017 honda 700 SXS pioneer. So far all I have done is oil/lube change, air filter & spark plug replacement every year. Love it.
One of the first upgrades I made to my P1000 was a Big Sky telescoping rifle rack that mounts under the roof. Holds two long guns.
I would have guessed suspension or steering linkage. I haven't shopped for it, but it surprises me that the aftermarket doesn't manufacture a bunch of bed accessories for the Pioneer. I would consider using T-track or Yak Attack (for kayaks) mounts to "Appalachian engineer" what you need.
You had me going there for a minute, Troy. Using the words "break" and "Honda" in the same sentence.
All good to know! Thanks Troy :)
As a fellow WV’ian, love the likes and seeing your success here! On reason I don’t want the 1000-5 is the odd bed config and odd roll cage that got in the way. One unit that I’m considering for use on my farm is the Can-Am defender Pro, which has a long bed, I think it’s 6 feet (and can go flat). I really wish the other manufacturers, primarily Honda would make something comparable with that bed length on top of a off-road chassis, that would be perfect for my use.
For tires ITP Mudlite 2. Rocky Mountain has them very fairly priced. Great durable trail tire. Smooth on trails and great in mud trails. 8 PSI best ride and traction
It's a work vehicle you need a beer/margarita cooler
2:56 - a suspension part. The first thing that broke on our Kawasaki Mule was a ball joint on the driver side front.
I have a 24 700 4 deluxe. mostly joy ride around town and I love it!
I’ve got a 2001&2014 Artic Cat atvs that have been bullet proof. They are working machines in our forest. I will need to upgrade soon so an honest review of a work machine is helpful, thanks.

There's a sentence I didn't think I would ever read. Arctic Cat that's reliable lol
Awesome again you get what you pay for. Muchly apricated for the INFO. I am a HONDA guy. 2012 500 Foreman, 1999 GL1500, 2004 Civic, 2021 Ridgeline love it all.
I haven`t driven an older model but i don`t think they have improved the throttle response. We purchased a 2023 Trail Edition last summer and i still get to jumpin and jerkin sometimes. Seems like a solid machine with the 340 miles we have put on it. I`ll keep an eye on those door latches. Thanks for the heads up and the video.
Another great video great job
Saw Haul, makes a great chain saw carrier. I have one, had to build my mount for the front of my 2016 pioneer, but it was simple to do.
I have the 2020 1000 5. The step is for the rear passengers on the five seater. They are basically the same bike with more roof and some extra seats I have 2000 miles of trail riding and working on mine. The only thing it's needed was I adjusted my shifter cables. There are better trail bikes, but I work mine as well and didn't want a belt drive. I'm happy with the Honda. Goes most anywhere the other bikes go except deep mud, and I don't want to go there anyway. Cheers from Canada.
We have a 16 and a 21 modle. 16 has 17000 miles/2200 hrs. Its our go sxs on our farm. Very little joy riding. Replaced water pump and rubber boots on driveline. Change oil and filters every 100 hrs. Our 21 has almost 4000 miles/400 hrs. Very little farm work mostly joyrides. 21 shifts much smother and gas pedal far less sensitive. My 2 biggest gripes, wished they use spin on oil filters and a electric hoist for bed witch we did put on our 16.
Ah ha! Kalmbach feed! We are a big believer in their products as well as Honda… Honda that is as long as it’s not replacing our car or truck, I’m a retired auto worker. Lol! Love these informational videos Troy!
Get a Seizmik Overhead Gun Rack. I have the 1000-5 and it was the second thing I ordered. I ride on our farm and some local trails with my brother and all our kids a few times a year. Mainly got mine for farming and hunting. I keep a older deer rifle in there almost all the time where I can still keep my main gun in the other location during hunting season. Then if I'm hunting with someone I can remove it and we can both store our guns up there. After seasons close then I might have a 22 and a shot gun. a little pricey but when a sxs cost 20K what's $200 for something that nice. I've stored $200 cheap guns and rifles around 2k and always felt they were safe and secured.
Stake holes. There is a mounting rail. Its tbe bed side. They make everything that you said that you wished you had. They make mounts for everyrhing from chainsaws, fishing poles, tpost drivers, litterally everything. Or you can fab your own.
I'm glad yall went with honda after asking for input 5 years ago. They are a solid platform as a work machine. I still say honda and can-am are the best two manufacturers of offroad vehicles.
What if you attached a platform on top the current bed frame? Then you could have a flat bed with removeable sides to haul and mount a toolbox (using Milwaukee Packout cleats or something similar) as well as having dry storage space underneath that closes up with the tail gate (for your rifle?) That may solve a lot of your issues 🤷♂
if i had to guess i would say the power steering. IF not that then it has to be a shifting linkage or something with the shifter.
Kolpin UTV overhead gun and bow rack. 👌
Honda, the name says it all 👍
Impressive! Door latch spring?! LOL!
Seems like it could use more lights to be able to work at night or when light isn't good.
2:52 front control arm
How is it getting parts? OEM or aftermarket? Reasonable prices??
I guess a spring in your seat!
Any thoughts on benefits/drawbacks of convertible seating/bed models, ala a few of the Kawasaki Mule trans models? I am considering a purchase at some point, and I like the idea of having a larger bed most of the time, but having the ability to increase seating for those occasions when family/visitors need some toting around the property. I guess it all comes down to your individual use cases, but would be interested in any thoughts if you've got 'em.

For the last four years we have owned a Kawasaki Mule ( Ranch Edition). It has the ability to very quickly and easily convert between three and six passengers. When in the three passenger mode, it provides a fairly large cargo bed where we frequently park our 65 gallon spray tank. We keep the vehicle in mostly three passenger configuration since it's usually just my wife and I operating it. But I will say the vehicle rides well with myself and three or four full sized forestry agents.
My guess, the tailgate. Or the bed itself.
12:15 Got my Pioneer 500 just over 5 years ago, no plans to let it go!

Wouldn’t your six year extended warranty have covered that?
About the ceiling mount gun rack. In my state it is illegal to carry a long gun on an off road vehicle outside of a gun case or latched box. It may also be illegal in other states. If so, there would be no reason for Honda to make that available, especially since there are so many gun haters. It would have to be an aftermarket item.

if I were to give you a list of every failure we’ve had with our Polaris UTV it would exceed the character limit of You Tube. I will never ever buy another Polaris as long as I live. Absolute garbage products. Buying a Pioneer or Yamaha next time.
