2022+ GR86/BRZ Jackson Racing Dual Radiator & Oil Cooler Install

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Just like the previous gen cars, these cars are seeing high oil temps during any sort of performance driving. Spikes in oil temps can lead to oil pressure loss and breakdown of the oil which could lead to catastrophic engine failure! With the Jackson Racing Dual Radiator/Oil Cooler Kit that is a thing of the past!

Thank so you much for your install videos Kev. Super clear instructions and great ways to avoid trouble/breaking stuff. Tip for putting hoses back on, and maybe even removing them. Use hand sanitizers everyone has now 👀 alcohol is a great lubricant, and it just evaporates away, no residue.

So is there no thermostat for the oil? Seems like that could be a bit problematic in the winter. Incredible work filming that by yourself. Finding the right camera angles, then getting it set in place, etc....wow! First class clear instructions. Great stuff!

I think jackson racing claims it's not necessary since the oil is cooled against the coolant, not directly to air.

I'm in california so obviously this doesn't mean much but so far it seems that oil comes up to temp just as quickly. I wouldn't be super concerned. Especially if you're running 0w-20.

This thing seems really smart and a great value. Your install videos are second to none. I always seem to end up with at least little blood, some head scratching, and some swearing.

Would it be better to remove the stock 2022 water to oil heat exchanger that is now sitting under the JR sandwich plate? Since the water to oil heat exchanger at the dual rad would be so much more effective than the stock one, no seanse having the oil suffer TWO pressure drops going thru TWO heat exchangers? Wonder what the oil temeratures are of having TWO heat exchangers vs just the JR dual rad set up alone. Yes i understand the stock heat exchanger would help bring the oil temps up faster at cold start but i worried more about pressure drops and cavitation at high rpm.

So gen 1 BRZ/86 are compatible with the Subaru oil/water heat exchanger, if it is possible to make gen 1 twin have the same function cooler kit like this one for gen 2? Also very interested in oil temp improvement on gen 2 cars!👍

Will the radiator fit with turbo installed? 2019 JDL UEL V2. Had to get slim fans to fit hot side of turbo and its still pretty close.

Okay so a bit of disclaimer here: I've never run a dual rad before. However... I know quite a few people, some of them own their own shops and/or track pretty competitively. Every single time I've heard one of these guys talk about dual-purpose rads, it's always them saying to stay away from them SPECIFICALLY in reference to track use. Now, would this be a good solution for a bit of spirited driving in a hotter climate type of thing? Or just a bit of autoX? Probably, but I don't know for sure. What I can say is that, as far as I've seen (not personally experienced, just seen at track days), these things don't perform well at the track. Better than stock in almost every case, but not enough to keep your oil temp/pressure where you want it. Take that for what it's worth. If you are either already in the track scene, or thinking about getting into it, I suggest you take the time to do a bit of research and make your own informed decision. Do a cost comparison vs a stand-alone oil cooler + upgraded rad, and determine your own risk threshold. This is a good idea on paper, but I haven't yet seen it stand up in extreme conditions.

We won two SCCA national championships with this dual radiator/oil cooler on our Gen 1 race car. So it does works for naturally aspirated guys on track. We suggest our Track Cooler (air to oil cooler) for hardcore track/high HP/racing use.

Didnt understand the reason for the cooler lines not being shorter. this causes pressure and load losses that the OE oil pump was not designed for. Also, the spacer and the flange not being one whole piece can cause future oil leaks. Overall nice product but some stuff is weird.

Seems like a good idea but a lot of work. Since you're already taking a bunch of stuff off, is there anything you'd recommend upgrading/changing at the same time?

I have 1gen and 2gen. Doesn’t the 2gen have an oil cooler already? It’s below the oil filter, right? My 2gen runs 20 degrees less then my 1gen.

what's the weight difference from the OEM part? because if anything like the older ones they'll be a little front heavy already, so adding extra weight right at the nose of the car wouldn't be great.

I thought the 2nd Gen came with an oil cooler stock? Isn't that what is sitting beneath the oil filter? Is that not sufficient cooling? If not, why not remove it so you only have the Jackson Racing cooler? Seems strange to me to have 2 oil coolers. Especially if one of them is not good at its one and only job.

Having the 2 coolers is also beneficial as the OEM unit helps warm up the oil as well.
