    Unless you're on a track, there is absolutely no reason to use that DCT in manual mode for straight line racing. It's faster letting the car do it. Also I always hit the NGS right before I hit the pedal, not a bit before hand. Seems to work better that way. Just my experience so far with my Elantra N.

    Finally, a video that I've been waiting for. Thank you, Sam! Bravo! Another great video and great match-up between the Elantra N vs the Civic Type-R. Amazing results. I can see you having trouble with the initial launch of the Elantra N.... Hyundai designed its own DCT and it does not like hard launch of its transmission. Probably to maintain its longevity/reliability. Also, when driving in a straight line, no need to do a manual shift on a DCT. Regardless, great job on the friendly matchup. For under $35k, the Hyundai Elantra N is a lot of car for the money. Respect to the Civic Type-R... a legend and great car.

    When doing the rolls, your NGS feature is already off by the time you get to speed since you press it so early. Also, I believe the manual is gonna keep up MUCH better in the rolls compared to the DCT auto. Still crazy how much car you're getting for under 35k an with a few minor upgrades it's gonna be hard to stop.

  • @pokenerd1898

    @pokenerd1898

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Bry Zeer that's the point. Compare manual to manual, auto to auto. When the trans are different its just another variable. Also dcts are automatics, no need for "auto". There's a reason some sports cars only come stick. Kinda wish the veloster n didn't get an automatic if they had the elantra n in the pipeline

  • @pokenerd1898

    @pokenerd1898

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Bry Zeer it's a super car. Sports cars would be like a miata to a supra. In this case, the supra has an automatic. Or the hot hatches that mostly came in stick only, think sti, Evo, focus rs. Or dedicated sports cars like the s2000 which is only available as stick. There are sporty and great performing vehicles with automatics, and there are less than great automatics. You'd be hard pressed to tell me a charger scatpack (which shares the transmission with the supra) is a 4000 lb sports car.

  • @pokenerd1898

    @pokenerd1898

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Bry Zeer bro Google something. No one calls dct cars dct. They are called automatic. Look up that gtr that you bring up "6-speed automatic". There's nothing wrong with an automatic like you make it seem but a 911 is hardly a sports car nowadays either. The cars you talk about being "sports cars" are not meant to be over 100k. A mustang gt? Sports car. A gt500? Not a sports car. Golf gti? Not a sports car, it's a hot hatch. Idk why you think sports car means fast? Miata and brz are not fast but are the pinnacle of daily driver sports cars. Porsche 718 is a sports car In manual or auto. If you can't drive stick that's fine, but it's not an excuse to classify whatever you want as a sports car

  • @pokenerd1898

The old CTR is faster in every regard, track etc. Now if you want to shift gears with a paddle like an idiot sure it'll beat it in a 1/4 from a dig. Same reason an automatic Mustang beats manual Mustang, so what. But whats crazy is that we are even still comparing the FK8 Type R to all these new cars that just came out, to be fair, if you want apples to apples, we will have to compare the 23 Type R, and when it comes out, and it too, will take the world by storm, just like the FK8 did.

    Coming from a Honda Civic Sport 2019, I was looking to upgrade and my options were the type r or elentra n and I went with the N simply due to the price point with the crazy mark ups. MSRP 22 type r going for 58k while elentra n is 42k (Canadian).. 15k difference but you guy a car thats underrated at 286hp its def pushing 310-320 to the crank (there videos of stock N being dyno'd pushing 282 whp) with 15-20k you can do alot and still have lots of fun. Had my N for about two weeks and its amazing , exhaust sounds awesome, already got a few runs and safe to to say bang for buck you wont find a car at this price with this much power, let alone the customization options are amazing. Im a huge honda fan and always have and will be but hyundai is up coming, along with the 5 year engine/turbo warranty its safe to say im happy with my choice. Kind of tough to compare based on this vid because the Type R got a head start first race but then made a sandwich on the 1-2 shift at 4:27 (you can watch the palpable loss of acceleration the R had on the way to second at 3:57). Then the first roll seems solid but the second the Type R really got the jump at 6:23. So it's like combine that with the whole NGS button and launching business, and it seems like a race would be better had between drivers with a little more seat time in each car. But I guess that also kind of represents the real world if you encounter one another on the streets (of Mexico haha). Electronics are finicky to manage, shifts get f'd up, pacing get jumped, you kick yourself for riding the rev limiter, etc. Would love to see an on-track comparison and also how these cars times will compare at autocross this summer (I think they are in the same class to boot). My friend with an Elantra N tells me it loves to playfully oversteer and is a handful, but a good handful when the back end likes to slide a bit and it's practically yelling at you to mash the throttle! My R stays delightfully neutral even when the laws of physics say it shouldn't.

    To be fair first race the Type-R looks to have the jump and the N bogged really hard. Second race it looks like it is closer on the start but the Type-R had a little shift issue from first to second unless the N is just faster there due to the DCT. On the 30MPH roll, not surprised looked good on launch of both with the Type-R starting to go. The 60MPH roll well, I think Sam upshifted too soon and really flattened out the launch for the N. I would like to see another 60 roll with a driver change. I think it would be similar to the 30 roll with the Type-R having a car length lead at the end. But for the extra 12k in price difference, you can get some really nice mods on the N that I think would make a bigger difference then on the Type-R. The issue I have is in the Type-R price range, your looking at a Golf-R or a Audi S3. And the 2022 Golf R eats all of there lunch at that price point. The N wins it for me at a lower price point, better warranty. I can put that 12k into mods down the road and the sounds from the N well it just has more fun factor then the Type-R. This also coming from a Honda owner.

    The N is equal or even a bit faster. I honestly feel the N needs better drivers lol. When racing straight line there is no reason to shift the car yourself.. Just launch control and go.. As far as the roll races. Drop the N down into 2nd (30 roll) and 3rd (60 roll) and just floor it and have the car do the rest of shifting. The manual N won't be faster than the dct N either.
