Center impact airbag!

@@iamblepg Is IIHS responsible for setting low beam standards? I swear almost every new car has LEDs that are so bright it's impossible to see the road at night.
Any thoughts on rear impact testing? Many of these cross-overs are now coming with 3-rows, and many of them have only a matter of a few inches between the seat, and the rear hatch. Not much room for a crumple zone. I feel like this is an incredibly important test, especially considering how common a rear impact crash is. EDIT: (To clarify, I mean someone not paying attention and running into the back of the car in front of them. Not all cars have forward collision avoidance)

Yeah I don't like my kids sitting in the third row for that reason. Sure doesn't seem like much crush space. Put some luggage back there and it could be even worse, I would think.
@ar12.

@@plmn93 yeah only decent 3 rows are Volvos or surprisingly something like a Toyota prado as it’s a Ladder fram making it very stiff and generally they do good in rear crashes.
The first center airbag I saw was the genesis suv that tiger got into a accident with.
Not sure how much more the additional center impact airbags would help if the whole door and frame caved in so much.

This is a great new test
Very good. So many others got lowr ratings on this crash tst
Needs external airbag.
Why is the center airbag deployed so late?
When will a modern mini be crash tested?
When will the luxury mid-size SUV group be tested? I am very much looking forward to how XC60 and XC90 will perform in the new side-impact test.

how come u guys don't test every single vehicle on sale? For example I haven't see you rate a lot of full size luxury cars like the S-class, Lexus LS or LC nor full-size SUVs. Also is this new side crash test eventually going to be implemented on every vehicle u test in the future?
@iihs-hldi
2 жыл бұрын
IIHS is an independent research organization with limited resources, so we simply don't have the resources to test everything that is on sale. That includes some luxury models and very large vehicles that inherently provide protection due to their sizes. We are planning to evaluate as many vehicles as possible in our updated side crash test as it will factor into our TOP SAFETY PICK awards beginning in 2023.

The primary downgrade was to the vehicle's structure (marginal). The driver dummy also experienced elevated forces in the acceptable range to its torso and pelvis.
The revised side crash test puts all cars to their knees.. I reckon it'll take a couple more years for everyone to really beef up that B pillar in order to soak up that extra load that came with the new test
