2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT Preview. Is it worth the higher price tag?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Tracer 9 GT is now available to order.
Following the lead of its little brother, the MT 09, the Tracer 900 Gt is getting a full host of updates, but they are also updating the price considerably. Is it still the great value that it was?
Welcome to ‪@sixthisoverdrive‬
First off is the engine, which upon first look seems unchanged for 2021, which you would be wrong in assuming as the displacement has been increased to just a tick under 900cc’s to 899. This allows for a claimed 7% increase in power as well as places the peak power 1500 rpm lower in the range for what should be an all-around better low-end power, something the Tracer 900 gt was not lacking in the first place. Not only are we bringing weight savings and more power to the table, but the bike will also be euro 5 compliant and a 9% increase in fuel economy.
There are also a host of other changes to the driveline and transmission that are all designed to be more efficient and refined, and I feel this could go a long way in making things feel that much more like an upscale bike.
So, tell me what you think. Is it worth it?

I’ve ridden the XR, the tiger 900 and the new multistrada 950. My hopes are on this one. I thinks it’s likely the one that’s the most fun and best value. In the states the GT comes in just shy of $15k. While you can get an XR for less, it doesn’t have the same options. When you spec all those bikes out to be equal to the tracer (with bags) the tracer comes in at thousands less, sometimes with more features. As long as Yamaha made good on the improvements they have written down, this will hands down still be the best value in the segment.

I really think there is a big difference. The XSR feels like a different monster. It us unruly and raw. I made another video about the Ninja 1000 vs the 9gt. It strikes a more 1 bike kind of chord as it is more sporty than the 9gt. Thanks for watching.

I have ridden the tracer 900.The engine is very good and almost electrical on all the rev range but the gearbox was clunky and the brakes, suspension were budget. The bike at max speed was somewhat unstable and wobbly.I hope yamaha have improved all these points to justify the more money that ask for this bike.

Pre-ordered one in Barcelona, final price expected to be the official 14.299 EUR plus plate expenses, less 500 EUR in equipment offered by the dealer. As I already have the Yamaha top case in the commuting Xmax 300 and the bike is already quite well equipped, let's see what can be appealing. I suppose gel seats and top case support will do the trick. It is replacing a YZF1000R Thunderace crashed some 8 years ago. In between, many rental bikes, including a Tracer 900 which convinced me keeping in the brand (also owned Kawasaki and off road Honda). I am 20 years older compared to when I bought the 'ace, so less sporty more comfy is spot on for me. As per the refinement difference with the BMW's, well, I tried several of the twin F800 flavours and was not particularly impressed. The 1200 boxers were yes, finer, but in the twisties I felt a dumper truck from a coal mine could be equally agile and have more luggage space than that ridiculous top case which couldn't hold a 15" old school laptop. One last thing: "Puig" is Catalan for "Hill" and proper pronounciation for the ending -ig is like -tch in "match", say "pootch" ;) That was a free undemanded advice from my inner grammar (Catalan) naz1 :)

After considering and going for a test ride on the Triumph 900 GT Pro, the BMW 900 XR, and Ducati's Multistrada 950, I put down a deposit on the Tracer 9GT and ordered one. I did so because after comparing these bikes equally kitted out the Yamaha came out costing less, thus offering greater value. I can live without the ability to connect my phone to the bike, and as a matter of fact the Triumph dealer and I were unable to connect my phone to the bike prior to the test ride. But I'm not here to analyze the features of these bikes, (and let's face it an argument could be made to purchase any of them) but I just wanted to say that for me the Yamaha ticked all my boxes. I live in the states and expected delivery is this April. Cheers.

Nice looking bike with a lot features but $16,999.00 and going to a dealer just to be marked up another $1000-$1200+ in pdi/freight and doc fees is a turn off so basically walking in and negotiating $1000+ off just to end up paying MRSP in the end. The GT is going to be more with the luggage, cruise control, heated grips, quick shifter, active suspension etc etc. Lets see what the basic Tracer 9 comes in at for MSRP. The BMW F900XR is less but by the time you add luggage, cruise, heated grips etc etc and bring it up to the 9 GT's equipment wise I'm sure it will be comparable in price. I just can't walk into a dealership and lay out the "I have to pay the ladies in the back to fill out the receipt" fees.

It’s good they have such a long warranty. With an Italian bike, you’re going to need it. I owned a Piagio before. It was towed on a flatbed truck 3 times in its first year after buying new. Once for throttle body failure where it was stuck at about 1/3 throttle and fighting me to stop it, and twice for ignition failure which left me stalled at traffic signals. I realize Piaggio is not Ducati, but have you seen the consumer reports ratings?

I’ve compared similar models from other manufacturers and the Tracer still seems to be a better value or at worse on par compared with them. Add in the fact that Yamaha is #1 for quality and the beloved proven triple now has more power and torque down low it’s going to be even better! Most these other bikes don’t come with cases so there’s probably 1500 right there - there is nothing to really add to the GT. The display I’d have to see in person but I think I like it for the fact that it displays a lot more information without having to toggle through a lot of menus. For me there only a few things that I care to know and most the other stuff I could care less about. As well, since the screens are split I can put my gps unit right in the middle, it looks like, without it blocking the display now.? So it makes sense to me.

When I bought my Ninja 1000abs I seriously looked at the Tracer 900GT but here in Australia the Ninja was better value, more power, both good looking and better 2 up. The side cases are not included but are far superior to the Tracer. The outgoing 900gt here is $21k on the road and the current Ninja1000sx is $18800 (about $20k with the panniers) on the road. Now it seems the gap will be bigger when the new Tracer9GT comes out. FWIW I like the new Tracer9GT. The two things that nearly got me over the Ninja is it is a more agile bike with a more upright position. Yamaha, why is only one of the headlights on when low beam is on? It's looks so much better when both are on and it's safer!!! The looks have definitely grown on me, it will be interesting to see the price in Australia but my guess is it will be around $23.5k on the road which is the same as the MS 950S.
