Motonosity, Future tip when you false neutral, make sure to rev the bike up to the correct rpm you think it should be at for the speed before you drop it into gear. Dropping it into gear before reving causes a clicking or worse a clunk. That clunk is your shift fork slamming on the drum, Very bad for the life of the transmission and will make it more prone for more future false neutrals. Working at a Yamaha dealership for over 8 years now as a parts manager. Very common issue for the MT-09.

Also Yamaha bikes with the factory quick shifter aren't ment to be used from 1st to 2nd gear. I know it sucks...

After watching so much review about the mt09 you’re the only one who wasn’t excited about the torque of this bike, 👍
Advice to anyone and everyone , including Mr motonosity. If you ever find yourself in a false neutral. don't just clutch in and force the gear in. REV MATCH like as if you were down shifting . because the cogs being turned by the wheel are spinning at a far higher rate than the cogs being spun by the engine side as the engine has gone into neutral basically and you're likely closing the throttle when this happens . remember, REV MATCH then kick the gear in !
The intake sounds so good. Wow. The increasingly loud whine as the engine climbs.

1st to 2nd quick shifting isn't recommend for most bikes. 2nd and up ok.
There is a wheelie control that prevents the sort of throttle application that would lift the front wheel. That could be keeping the acceleration force in check. The new SP has the same electronics controls as the R1. But yes, with Euro5 choking up new stuff, I'd be willing to bet this new 890cc would be a rocket. In the actual numbers, Yamaha says +4 horsepower and +4 torque, as well as a little less weight. All of that adds up to more powerful than the 847cc model.

I agree. Thought it was odd that he ddint have blockhead go over the electronics & wheelie control or do the research himself. Maybe just too many to go over as he is riding multiple bike while there.

@@Jesusprayerwarriorbw Seems it puts out about the same power as the former model, in stock form. Waiting for a good ECU flash. Woolich Racing seems to have the ECU unlocked but haven't seem a shop utilize that yet.

Brentuning has 2020/21 Yamaha R1 ECU flash, r u gonna get it done for your R1

This is Euro5 compliant that is the why it feels slower than 2014 version because it actually is slower, they bumped up displacement to compensate a bit.
That's one thing I wish my '14 FZ-09 had, cruise control. I've done a couple long rides on it and having to hold that throttle for that long kinda sucks. Great video man!

Out of all the bikes on the market...this has been my dream bike since I heard of it in the EU market...not too fond of the new headlight but it will probably grow on me

I love the headlight! I was trying to buy the Suzuki GSX S1000 naked but unobtanium so I just got a mt09 last week...real nice.
Similar boat - 2015 FZ09 with flash, full exhaust, intake, & air box mod… trust me, that flash on the first gens does a LOT for that bike.
What’s happening with the Grom build?
This is the bike that I've settled on. Wanted either the RS660 or a new naked to replace my old Bandit 600. With my bad back & neck from injuries I decided on the MT09SP. Enough power to have fun PLUS wheelie control, cant be beat imo. I have decreased feeling in my hands due to the neck injury so the electronics package is a must. Just wished they made the turn radius better.
With an exhaust this is one very good sounding bike 🔥

Good video man. It’s an awesome looking bike. I currently own a 2020 MT10 and I have also owned a 2018 MT09. I am currently switching back to the MT09 SP. Should be ready to pick up next week. The MT10 is a absolute monster. Power for days. I have found that for city riding on the MT10 you can’t get know where near it’s potential. The MT09 SP has way more electronic aids then the 10. The MT10 is a really amazing bike and so much fun, but I find the MT09 is way more manageable for day to day. Plus the amount of fuel you burn through. They don’t call it the empty10 for no reason lol.

Ngl the bike is super dope. And I also think the stock pipe sounds really good, it could be slightly gruntier. But it doesn't have to be louder, because like this you can ride it anytime without bothering neighbors or something.

good for beginner?
D mode is throttle response with 1 being most aggressive. Tcs modes controls traction, slide, and wheelie lift speed. Manual lets you control how you want them set individually. So if you’re good at wheelies you put lift off, but you don’t like the feeling of the rear wheel slipping as you accelerate leaned over you can put slide control at 2 or 3. If you want full raw mode like the first generation. Hold the mode switch up for a couple seconds in tcs mode selection. Also the quick shifter doesn’t work past 10k rpm. I think it redlines at 11k but your probably out of the powerband by that point anyway so just shift between 9-10k. So my bike I use d1 and manual tcs with tc1, sc2, lif2 because I’m not a wheelie guy and I’m only comfortable sliding my Harley.
I have the MT-10… you have to find one to ride. That bike makes me giddy even on my 4 mile commute to work! Find one modded out tho. Mine has everything imaginable done to it and it’s just bananas.

@@UnrulyRider yeah man that's what you want which isn't everyone. Maybe some people prefer the lighter, more nimble machine, prefer 3 cylinder sound and enjoy the much less cost.

@@UnrulyRider like the whole point was my opinion of "some people" did I ever say that was me or what I own or have..... Learn to read first. Btw I don't need others to recognize my accomplishments to feel good inside. Plenty of decent people just can't afford the MT10 and no didn't say "me!"
have you tested back to back street triple and this, the street triple is like where the hell is the Torque!
The exhaust on this years model looks like an after thought.

Honestly I wasn't a fan of the headlight at the beginning too. But now i think it suits the mt-vibe, it's weirdly mysterious and tech. And that's like the dark japan theme they're also promoting this bike as.
Gotta blip the throttle in order to put it back in gear without having that clunking noise from neutral when rolling!

Thank you! Lol I always just pretend I'm down shifting revmatching when I do that so it dosent sound like I'm yanking the guts outs my bike.. I also never put my bikes into N anymore either... Going from N to first while the bike is running is what wears and tears on your transmission the most... Always put your bike into gear before you start it

Love this bike. Love the headlight. Perfect bike with the triple engine. Exhaust is loud enough. Useable horsepower for the city.

I like my 2021 non SP, but I am thinking I will gear mine down. I don't desire to go past 130, but feel it is a little high geared. Been riding 26 years so maybe not much seems scary to me. Put 2700 miles in 3 weeks so far

100% That rear shock is probably worth more than the premium on its own. Suspensions has always been a grip with this bike Its not needed and plenty people enjoy the base mt09. But if you want to upgrade later you will pay more in the long run

Yamaha has nailed it on some of their recent bikes, but damn they messed up with the TFT displays. Way too small on this bike as well as the one on the Tracer 9 GT sport tourer. Ya gotta wonder if Yamaha is going to change this on these models at some point, or if they will wait until the next re-design.

After 20years riding R1's I'm looking for something else ...has to be Yamaha and hopefully with a comfy seat ..like the look of mt's alot so maybe I finally found something to excite me in the move from R1'S.

Not sure you was using that quick shifter correctly. If you back off the power, you shouldn’t shift upwards. Keep the throttle pinned and it’s as smooth as silk

@@zahrulexe you may ask, no Kawasaki, bike for 27 years,.my.85 ex demonstrator GPZ550 uni track, was fuel inj., fairly gutless, unless kicked. 84, my nearly new GPZ750TURBO, fuel injected, thought a turbo thing, GT750, fav. Kawasaki, sit at 140mph all day long, not fuel inj. March 19, turned down chance to get a 07 CBR600RR, sight unseen, saw it wanted it, just sold, BUMMER. Dancer got a 2005 GSF fuel inj 650 Bandit, best bike ever, throttle response was immediate, as was it's acceleration, over 80mph, before the red-line, 2nd gear, never needed it, delightful knowing it was there. Sadly semi retired fuel injected 650 BANDIT, Banditeer, Banditaholic. ZX10, or f.i.650 Bandit, probably a healthy 650 BANDIT. But, thinking MT09, looks like a Big RD 350LC, lovely, and if fuel injected, that could be the answer, to try and stop being a Banditaholic, forever a Banditeer. My 84,A reg, GPZ750TURBO, first production bike any size, to do standing quarter mile 10 seconds, about 2 seconds quicker than a Bandit 1200 S, went to 161mph,rather grin like an idiot, on a 650 Bandit always, always a new treat, so over top end speeds, MT09, could revel, in it's torque. Yours Professor Bandit 650 B.T.E.out., Bandit Torque ENJOYMENT only nothing technical.
Emissions have really restricted it considering that they have added more displacement. I assume with a tune and unrestricted exhaust this thing will be a monster
Haven't had any of the issues you are having with the quickshift up, down sometimes, but rarely

@@86250r yep just checked my manual to correct my self and the redline part is only true for the QS Downshifting conditions.
You should check out a KTM 890 Duke.

The epitome of technologically attractive but aesthetically repulsive. "Confused" isn't strong enough of a word to describe how I feel about this bike.
