Anton G: Definitely! The rider assistance is meant to help, and it does for sure. If you don’t want it, you can turn it off as well. It’s nice to have, especially on a powerful bike that can get you in trouble. Wish I had it on the 131 tbh!

I’ve watched every 2021 MT-09 review video I could find, and this is up there as one of the best, if not the best. Top notch. Liked and subscribed. I’m in Japan and we can’t buy them here yet, which is obscene. They’re built just up the road from where I live. I’ll be checking back for your other videos on this bike, especially for upgrades such as screen and luggage, if you use them.

I was taught to put my left foot down and keep in first gear when I stop, that way you can get out of the way quickly if someone decides to rear-end you. Also you can move along in traffic covering your rear brake.

I have the Tenere 700. For 686cc you get a full fledged street bike that cuts through the turns so surprisingly that I'm typing it out in a comment section. It's unbelievable for a bike that was designed for the dirt. Just truly balanced for the road. On the dirt you have to understand what it is. It's a bigger dirt bike, but lighter than an Africa Twin by far. I like the dual aspect of a bike but it needs roadworthiness for sure because we are stuck riding to dirt locations with overpopulation these days. That's what the T7 is for. The T7 - Batman's weekend bike.

very nice review full of good info. I've got a deposit on a SP at my local dealer. in fact I'm first on the list. my only slight concern is lack of a small windshield, the last bike I've owned without a windshield was a 1968 BSA many, many years ago. I'm coming off a Niken ...the 44th made in the world. I live very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and mainly ride mountain roads in the area. I don't ride long distances anymore maybe 300 miles in a day. I want a bike that weighs less than Niken that fun to ride. Any thoughts?

A good helmet also helps.I saw in other videos a small screen, i think iits from Yamaha's own line for the MT09, looks coool but very small so not sure how much it would help but you should look it up, enjoy and be safe

I'll be lucky to see something this powerful and expensive; right now my beginner bike is a cb300r which I quite like for intercity commuting and it's really at home on my local 45mph roads which is awesome. Only problem is I got a squid trapped in me and it wants something like an mt07 or a z650 or maybe even a cb650r because apparently 27bhp and 20 ft lbs of torque isn't enough pull. This video helped me rein in those demons and realize how absurd an mt09 would be for my area. Appreciate the vid and btw I assume those are florida roads? if you're ever in Stuart I'd love to say what's up.

  • @fido0825

I suggest you not get to hung up on the lack of Brembos. Some of the best brakes I've ever had on a bike were the stock single puckers on a 2000 Suzuki SV650 refitted with some good grippy EBC pads and a split pair of Goodrich kevlar brake lines. It COMPLETELY transformed the function of those brakes from ho-hum average to fantastic! I would trade the feel of those old Suzuki brakes for the anti-lock Brembos on my present '19 Speed Triple today! There's fully 3/8ths inch of slop in my Brembos before they really bite and this bike came stock with steel lines.

Puig says they’ll be releasing one for the new MT 09 soon but Yamaha has one for the SP. I would imagine it should fit the standard version also. I was going to wait to see how the wind was at 65-75 mph but I think I’ll order it now since I have to spend an hour on the highway before getting to some nice twisties to have fun. Let me know your thoughts on frame sliders.

I have done 500+ mile days on my xsr900. The trick with the wind is to just lean into it untill the wind is supporting your bodyweight without much input from you. It takes a minute to get the hang of, but once you got it down it's pretty comfy.

Hold the up arrow on the TCS to turn off TCS entirely! I still haven't tried riding with TCS entirely off but, Drive1 and TCS1 is pretty sweet!

I've never minded the wind on naked bikes. I'll probably use my fz6 till it dies or sell then buy this bike used in a few years.. I really like the cruise control.

You should do a video, of 2 bikes on a break-in period, do one like the rules say and do one like you drive it like you would, then go to a dyno and check to see i've there is a difference in power

Had a Z900 some years ago. Didn't really complain about wind pressure. Got an '18 MT-09. I complain sometimes about wind pressure. I think it has more to do with the ergonomics of sitting near bolt-upright instead of canted forward.

The new 2021 mt09 has adjustable rearset height, out of the factory is low and then you can raise it 1 notch. Raising it may cant your body forward enough to help with the wind. Not sure if previous model years like the 2020 and 2019 have it. But aftermarket rearsets would have the same effect.

@@MrFoxfire510 What you're suggesting would only change if the seat was made to have an extra inch of foam height. Otherwise, my knees would just be more folded up while sitting in the same upper body geometry.

@@exothermal.sprocket There’s also 4 bolts on the center of the handlebar. You can try loosening those and rotating the bar towards the front of the bike it will lower them and make you lean forward also. I did that with my Yamaha 2017 FJ09 before I sold it. Edit: or rotating them towards you, whichever way will lower them and still have clearance when doing full lock left to right. Will have to loosen and rotate the levers and throttle assembly also after doing this. I did it to my fj09 and it did make for a more leaned forward sportier stance while sitting.

I have the non SP version and would love Cruise control, but unfortunately I got impatient and settled and also wasn't a fan of the blue which is the only color. Still a great bike tho. I agree tho on freeway it sucks. I get beat up really bad by the wind and would really like to put a windshield on to see if that helps.

Probably the most important thing on a new engine is to make sure the engine is warmed up. BMW cars will not allow you to redline or higher rpms until car warmed up.

Looks like Yamaha engineered a more than ample successor to the previous year. You are right, IMO, that it is a great value price wise. The 2022 XSR 900 is one I am waiting for. It has yet to show up in dealerships here in the DMV area. A while back I test rode a Triumph Street Triple S. IYO how does that bike compare to the MT-09 SP ? I read that the XSR 900 weighs slightly more than the MT-09 SP at 425 pounds wet. Why that it is seems strange, I mean it is the same as the MT09 SP model sans a few design changes (such as the headlight). When I test rode the Triumph ST S it was/is such a light bike (410 pounds wet) and did did seem somewhat Flimsy/cheap w/e. It just did not feel as a premium build or w/e. I really cannot describe it properly, sorry. I currently own 3 motorcycles, a 2016 Motto Guzzi V7II Stone, a 2015 Harely Super Low 1200 T and a 2020 KTM 790 Adventure S (my fav bike). If I were to buy the Yamaha XSR 900 or the MT 09 SP I would probably sell my Harely Super Low 1200T. It is a great "icon" motorcycle but to be honest is not that exciting or fun to ride (reminds me of a tractor, haha). Though my James Dean Style Leather motorcycle jacket compliments that bike perfectly but not the other two, haha. *FYI if I were to ever get another Harely it would be the Low Rider S (soft tail version). That is an awesome motorcycle, IMO
