Anton G: Definitely! The rider assistance is meant to help, and it does for sure. If you don’t want it, you can turn it off as well. It’s nice to have, especially on a powerful bike that can get you in trouble. Wish I had it on the 131 tbh!

I’ve watched every 2021 MT-09 review video I could find, and this is up there as one of the best, if not the best. Top notch. Liked and subscribed. I’m in Japan and we can’t buy them here yet, which is obscene. They’re built just up the road from where I live. I’ll be checking back for your other videos on this bike, especially for upgrades such as screen and luggage, if you use them.

I was taught to put my left foot down and keep in first gear when I stop, that way you can get out of the way quickly if someone decides to rear-end you. Also you can move along in traffic covering your rear brake.

If you’re in neutral though, you want your right foot down so your left foot is over the shifter.

Awesome bike. The best review I seen and made me more to love this bike. I was looking for while now about fz/mt09. The new model made me sure to get it and this review. I love the base model with redish orange rims. I ride in the same area where you ride. Love them twisties . Subscribed

You solidified my want for an MT-09…. Just went and bought one today
I have to say its a cracking motorbike, Ive owned mine since the middle of may, havn't got the SP version, but wow what an awesome bike, the sound puts a smile on ur face and of course the power delivery hahaha, and great video btw :)
Really awesome video! Love how clear and detailed the video picture is! I’m impressed with the stock exhaust noise. Where do you recommend to get the suspension tuned to our bodies?
thank you for the quickshift knowledge, buying my second mt09 3rd gen this time obviously and this is the best video on it by far.
I love that bike, your insights where very helpful. Thanks and stay safe.
i LOVE DOING IT NAKED ! I have a gen 2 MT-09 and ride it daily. I have two upgrades to suggest , HH sintered brake pads and a GPR stabilizer. Those two upgrades alone completely transform the bike. $ 574 seems like a lot for the GPR but trust me , its worth every penny on a 140 mph unicycle !
Buying a my-09 today because of this video! Hell of a review!
Grats on your bike man! Still waiting for mine, it's been rescheduled a couple of times now. Latest news is end of July, least I get to ride a couple of months before season is salted up here in Denmark
Awesome bike brother. Looking forward to all the MT09-SP content on the channel 🤙🏽🤙🏽

Oh damn! I live super close to where you filmed this. That's awesome. Just got a mt-09. Love it. Got a regular as I couldn't find an sp anywhere and I'm super impatient to wait. Actually drove 380 miles into GA to get mine.

Blockhead I just want you to know you are a deciding factor in my purchase of a 2022 XSR900. I wanted that headlight an plan to put a 1/4 fairing on it for wind protection. I appreciate your videos very much!
Absolutely love my 09 for what it is. It will never replace a cruiser but it kinda cruises good as well as hooning around. Every time I contemplate hotroding my Victory or Harley I jump on the MT and I’m all good. Hope it serves you as well as mine has to me

Quickshifter is made for racing with high rpm. I own 2018 Super Duke 1290r and MV Augusta Dragster 800rr Pirelli edition. Both have QUICKSHIFTERS. Never missed a shift but very smooth at higher rpm vs lower revs with Quickshifter.

Thanks for the interesting review, I demo rode an MT09 SP a few days ago and agree with most of your comments. Unfortunately in the UK we have to wait until August for the next batch of bikes to arrive....its going to feel like forever ☹
Its a great bike, I have had loads of bikes in my time and I’m loving this bike at the moment. Great review and I’ll be looking out for future videos to see if your opinions keep matching mine.
I have the Tenere 700. For 686cc you get a full fledged street bike that cuts through the turns so surprisingly that I'm typing it out in a comment section. It's unbelievable for a bike that was designed for the dirt. Just truly balanced for the road. On the dirt you have to understand what it is. It's a bigger dirt bike, but lighter than an Africa Twin by far. I like the dual aspect of a bike but it needs roadworthiness for sure because we are stuck riding to dirt locations with overpopulation these days. That's what the T7 is for. The T7 - Batman's weekend bike.
# nice review, comprehensive and informative. Is this bike good enough and usually commuting friendly? for daily use and weekend touring? is beter than Street triple Any way great video Be safe

very nice review full of good info. I've got a deposit on a SP at my local dealer. in fact I'm first on the list. my only slight concern is lack of a small windshield, the last bike I've owned without a windshield was a 1968 BSA many, many years ago. I'm coming off a Niken ...the 44th made in the world. I live very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and mainly ride mountain roads in the area. I don't ride long distances anymore maybe 300 miles in a day. I want a bike that weighs less than Niken that fun to ride. Any thoughts?
hello blockhead man thats a nice ride. i have my eye on one now its a new 2021 sp just wondering do you still have it and would you buy it today
i have so much fun matching upshifts and especially downshifting. the reward for perfect rev matching is one of the things that keeps me riding so these quick shifters are taking the fun away? what would you say?
Good video . . . I’m still waiting on my SP
I do the same break in. had over 20 bikes, never blew one up in my life.

Congrats on the bike man. Too bad the Bronx wasn't released. I was hoping you would buy it so we could get a good review on it.
I saw you put a windscreen on the MT-09 from your dyno teaser. Does it help with the wind protection? Like would you tour on this thing? Thinking of selling my Z900 because I hate the windblast to the helmet and was thinking about a triumph tiger but I also love the supermoto feel of the MT-09. What do you think? MT or an actually touring machine?
yep the wind is a pain on a naked on the highway, riding on a monster 821 for an hour ard 80 mph is brutal.. . up to 60 -65 not an issue though, I always wear earplugs besides saving your hearing you will also be less tired. that constant buzzing can really drive you nuts. A good helmet also helps.I saw in other videos a small screen, i think iits from Yamaha's own line for the MT09, looks coool but very small so not sure how much it would help but you should look it up, enjoy and be safe
Check out the GIVI 1173S windshield for the 2021 model😉 I also got one, albeit a different model to match my 2020 SP… Overall, the bike looks quite tidy with it 😄
Awesome ride but damn what’s that song in the intro, bangerrrr
I'll be lucky to see something this powerful and expensive; right now my beginner bike is a cb300r which I quite like for intercity commuting and it's really at home on my local 45mph roads which is awesome. Only problem is I got a squid trapped in me and it wants something like an mt07 or a z650 or maybe even a cb650r because apparently 27bhp and 20 ft lbs of torque isn't enough pull. This video helped me rein in those demons and realize how absurd an mt09 would be for my area. Appreciate the vid and btw I assume those are florida roads? if you're ever in Stuart I'd love to say what's up.
I'm seriously considering trading my bike in on one of these. Your experience with cruise control on bikes is exactly the same experience I've had with them. Almost verbatim.
I’m coming back after a couple of years off riding and looking at the mt09. The last bike I owned was a duke 390 is this too much bike to come back too you think?
Thanks so much, now I don't even know if I want to get a Triumph 765 Street Triple.😜😋 I was pretty dead set on one but I don't know now; this Yamaha MT-09SP is really changing my mind. The only things I don't like too much about it are the pretty small fuel tank and I wish that it rev'd a little bit higher--not a deal breaker though. What does it redline at incidentally, 10,600?
I really wish the SP came with upgrades brembo brakes. That’s still one the Achilles heals that Yamaha has yet to address. I would even pay an extra 800-1k for thag
@fido0825
2 жыл бұрын
I suggest you not get to hung up on the lack of Brembos. Some of the best brakes I've ever had on a bike were the stock single puckers on a 2000 Suzuki SV650 refitted with some good grippy EBC pads and a split pair of Goodrich kevlar brake lines. It COMPLETELY transformed the function of those brakes from ho-hum average to fantastic! I would trade the feel of those old Suzuki brakes for the anti-lock Brembos on my present '19 Speed Triple today! There's fully 3/8ths inch of slop in my Brembos before they really bite and this bike came stock with steel lines.
For the wind a good jacket makes all the difference. I have a all leather 4 season alpinestar. You dont really feel the wind if it flows around you correctly.
Hey, have you experienced the "sleep mode gremlin" on your moto yet? It started for me around 600miles on the odo. And caught on video. No idea what's going on. Just keeping notes on it and reading forums about it. Eventually I'll take it into the Stealership. 🍻
nice work
This was very helpful. I have a deposit down on the standard mt 09. Hopefully I’ll have it sometime in July. Puig says they’ll be releasing one for the new MT 09 soon but Yamaha has one for the SP. I would imagine it should fit the standard version also. I was going to wait to see how the wind was at 65-75 mph but I think I’ll order it now since I have to spend an hour on the highway before getting to some nice twisties to have fun. Let me know your thoughts on frame sliders.

I have done 500+ mile days on my xsr900. The trick with the wind is to just lean into it untill the wind is supporting your bodyweight without much input from you. It takes a minute to get the hang of, but once you got it down it's pretty comfy.
would love to get cruise control on my matte black bike and black handle bar and black short brake levers and modern brake resivors

Had a Z900 some years ago. Didn't really complain about wind pressure. Got an '18 MT-09. I complain sometimes about wind pressure. I think it has more to do with the ergonomics of sitting near bolt-upright instead of canted forward.
@MrFoxfire510
Жыл бұрын
The new 2021 mt09 has adjustable rearset height, out of the factory is low and then you can raise it 1 notch. Raising it may cant your body forward enough to help with the wind. Not sure if previous model years like the 2020 and 2019 have it. But aftermarket rearsets would have the same effect.

@@exothermal.sprocket There’s also 4 bolts on the center of the handlebar. You can try loosening those and rotating the bar towards the front of the bike it will lower them and make you lean forward also. I did that with my Yamaha 2017 FJ09 before I sold it. Edit: or rotating them towards you, whichever way will lower them and still have clearance when doing full lock left to right. Will have to loosen and rotate the levers and throttle assembly also after doing this. I did it to my fj09 and it did make for a more leaned forward sportier stance while sitting.
Awesome looking bike, you should get a seat cowl for the rear it will look even better. I saw one on ebay for $60

Probably the most important thing on a new engine is to make sure the engine is warmed up. BMW cars will not allow you to redline or higher rpms until car warmed up.
Looks like Yamaha engineered a more than ample successor to the previous year. You are right, IMO, that it is a great value price wise. The 2022 XSR 900 is one I am waiting for. It has yet to show up in dealerships here in the DMV area. A while back I test rode a Triumph Street Triple S. IYO how does that bike compare to the MT-09 SP ? I read that the XSR 900 weighs slightly more than the MT-09 SP at 425 pounds wet. Why that it is seems strange, I mean it is the same as the MT09 SP model sans a few design changes (such as the headlight). When I test rode the Triumph ST S it was/is such a light bike (410 pounds wet) and did did seem somewhat Flimsy/cheap w/e. It just did not feel as a premium build or w/e. I really cannot describe it properly, sorry. I currently own 3 motorcycles, a 2016 Motto Guzzi V7II Stone, a 2015 Harely Super Low 1200 T and a 2020 KTM 790 Adventure S (my fav bike). If I were to buy the Yamaha XSR 900 or the MT 09 SP I would probably sell my Harely Super Low 1200T. It is a great "icon" motorcycle but to be honest is not that exciting or fun to ride (reminds me of a tractor, haha). Though my James Dean Style Leather motorcycle jacket compliments that bike perfectly but not the other two, haha. *FYI if I were to ever get another Harely it would be the Low Rider S (soft tail version). That is an awesome motorcycle, IMO
