    Seeing both "The Great" and "Taskmaster" brought up on TV is amazing. I'm so glad "The Great" came back for season 2, but it's not getting anywhere near the hype or discussion online I think it deserves. Also I've binged 10 seasons of Taskmaster and 2 seasons of New Zealand Taskmaster in the last year or so. New Zealand season 2 is one of the best pieces of TV ever.

    Love that show, too! However those episode discussion threads get hundreds to thousands of comments on reddit. While The Great episode discussion threads only get twenty to thirty comments. It's such a shame since it's an absolutely incredible show. One of the best on TV right now, IMO. Until Better Call Saul comes back.

    I know this one is super late to the party but A long way to a small angry planet by Becky Chambers was one of the best things I experienced this year. Becky Chambers did an amazing job of making a world that was so interesting I didn't really care if any plot actually occurred. I was just so comfortable with spending time with the characters and learning about the world. I was almost sad when the plot progressed because it meant I got to spend less time just hearing the characters talk to each other. Chambers comes from a family of scientist that background helps make the characters and their cultures feel so real. The story definitely has parallels to things like firefly, and I think Chambers herself has compared it to Farscape. But, I think the best way to describe it is as a semester abroad in space. Love you Michael, as a big comics fan I definitely will check out Obituary. Keep making stuff!

I just started playing it about a month ago because all three of my girlfriends were playing it and I loved watching them but roguelikes aren't really my thing (Im a hollow knight speedrunner and also a puzzle and cozy game fan). Once I did though, oh my gosh was I hooked. I played so much that I surpassed both of them in progression, completed everything, and now I'm speedrunning that too. Can't say enough good things about it or supergiant as a whole!

    One of the big ones for me this last year was that I finally got to play Batman Arkham knight which I had been wanting to play since it came out. I thought it was a fantastic end to that series and they introduced one of my all time favorite characters in a really great way. They set it up so well that even people who may not know the character or the storyline could get the full emotional payoff of the reveal and for a huge fan like me I was just so excited to see that character and that storyline done justice.

    Always happy to see a video from you, glad to see you are doing well (at least as well as one can do in the modern covid hellscape). I had all sorts of things I watched/played/etc. that I enjoyed a lot this year. I saw the original Robocop finally, loved that. I saw the original Candyman which was honestly much more fucked up than I thought it would be. Psychonauts 2 is legit one of the best games I've ever played. Just so much media that I enjoyed a lot this year. Oh also Midnight Mass was incredible, one of the best shows I've ever seen.

  • @belatedmedia

    @belatedmedia

    2 жыл бұрын

    I can speak to Robocop and Candyman - Yeah, both are incredible pieces for wildly different reasons, but they've got such staying power with strong imagery, driven characters, and fully realized worlds. I've heard nothing but positive things about Psychonauts 2 and hope to dive into it at some point. Since I'm such a scaredy cat, Midnight Mass is a slightly more unlikely watch for me; the same has true for films like Midsommar and Hereditary - potentially great, but I'm fearful even if I were to watch 'em in broad daylight, I would be haunted.

    I agree that Bioshock 2 is also the best. Its the height of the gameplay loop. Story is good too - especially the dark ending. I think the Bioshock 1 twist, while amazing, doesn't prop up the rest of the game. Skyoshock starts out amazingly strong but ends in a bit weird. As for my game of the year - like you, just the game I played this year - is Prey. Which, if you like Bioshock, you NEED to play Prey. Its even more a System Shock successor than even Bioshock is.

    I played both chapters of Burial at Sea and outside of looping into the first Bioshock, I believe there are plenty of places they could go, as “there is always a man and there is always a lighthouse.” The stories don’t need to loop into one another if that is truly the mantra of the series, but if it all is intended to be a closed loop of limited constants and variables (so not much on the variables), then, yeah, I guess it’s over.
