Don't buy an SUV. That's the long and the short of it. More seriously, however, the Sydney Drive office has put its 2021 Kia Carnival Platinum through the absolute wringer. That includes four different families - some with kids, pets, and both - exploring both its interior tech and family friendliness. It means we took it on a road trip, of course.

I have the exact same model with 4 kids ages 13 to under 1 it's best buy ever. Love the fact I can restart car on hot days.

Sorry mate, but what do you mean by "restart car on hot days"?
with the 3rd row down, it is the best 5 seat wagon you can buy as well
Thanks for the review, sold on this car now.
Diesel Torque is 440Nm @ 1750-2750rpm not 245Nm
Sir,I liked this car a lot, 4th generation car, when this car lanch in India, please inform about booking date in India, waiting for r ur reply
There’s a recall on the sliding doors
Will it launch to India..?? Any idea..??
At 17:34 you say, “… as with a lot of cars, the lane keeping technology could be a bit intrusive.” I’m confused. There are two options: a safety feature that stops you wandering out of your lane (lane keep assist), and a feature that keeps you centered in your lane ONLY when adaptive cruise control is on. Please clarify what you meant. Just saying you turned it off is not useful for a buyer. Ranking the systems would be better. For instance, it’s better than brand A but not as good as brand B, and explain why. These are important safety features that deserve more attention in motoring reviews. I’ve recently driven SYD/MEL/SYD in a Kluger Hybrid and for the first time used active cruise control and lane centering most of the way. Now, I can’t imagine driving long distances without it. I’ve also had a one-hour test drive of a Hyundai Palisade and thought the Hyundai active cruise control and lane centering kept a better line entering curves. Both system are good in stop-start traffic and motorways with heavy traffic.
It's a great car, I could only pick up the new Si model. No stock anywhere for SLi or Platinum was told a 12 month wait

Hopefully the new stock will have all the features that didn't make the cut in the 2021 model, such as auto wipers, fully digital instrument cluster and removable third row; all, not just middle seat.
Ordered one 13 months ago…. Still have no clear delivery date … massive delays
My Kia Carnival Platinum diesel 2021 model with a full tank last between 7-10 days just driving in town ( regional NSW) I'll be driving from south coast to gold coast in November with 5 people and luggage it will be interesting to how it goes with fuel economy

Hello Darlene how's the Carnival going with the whole family? I'd like to know if they'd haul two teenagers and two toddlers with car seats, plus two adults.

@@hans6304 hi it's amazing to drive I just came back from our trip and drove from Gold coast to Sydney on way home on a full tank with 2 adults, 2 teenagers in far back, 6 year old in car seat ( 5 point harness), 15 month old rear facing in middle and 11 year old, you can also have 5 car seats in back all with isofix too. You will have plenty of room. Enjoy I love my kia

@@darlenewilliams-mcleod8920 good to hear. Cheers!
I would love to have the LX+, just for me, I have grandchildren
Great vehicle
That was the worst reverse parallel park I have ever seen.
I have 3 kids, the oldest being 4.5 years old. I am considering this, but wondering if its a bit of an overkill for me. But then again, its about the same price as a Sorento. Any ideas?

I have a Sorento Sports+ - fantastic car! Kids seats are a little tight for 3 across but definitely doable with all the leg room, reach through room and the slide function on the middle row. And like us if you only need the 3rd row for visitors it'll do you well. That said, we have had a change in family size so need the upgrade now...Carnival on the way!

IMHO. this! Unless your lifestyle centres around off-roading, or your address requires you to drive over unsealed roads for periods, an SUV isn’t really as versatile and utilitarian as this MPV/Station-wagon/Tech-on-wheel option! Plus, the economy (as reviewed) - in today’s rising prices of fuel, you really have to consider the expenditure in that department. IMHO.

I know this was 2yrs ago but can i ask with your Sorento could you have fit a small adult inbetween 2 car seats comfortably and safely? Also wondering if you used isofix with 3 across or if you needed belt installation to fit them all. Im also concerned putting my mothee in 3rd row of Sorento forna 3hr trip 😅 otherwise i just need to get carnival@alc2672
Rain-sensing Wipers are a big miss in my opinion. It's so much more convenient to have them on a long journies for which this car is made.
So, after three months, the only new information is: 1. Problems with infotainment system (fixed) 2. Stuff gets into sliding seat rails 3. Glitches with power sliding doors What about performance with the car loaded up?

It’s pathetic isn’t it! They have 6 months, 6 freaking months!
Needs awd
@zombie1078

It's not really marketed that way, if it was AWD then it would have less room through the centre of the cabin. Being FWD, there's no transmission tunnel getting in the way. I think the Palisade would be a better option if you need AWD, but I don't think it's got as much room as the Carnival.
Gift this car for me
