The wireless Apple Car Play system in the i30, along with many other models, has a known issue which is still to be resolve by both Apple and Hyundai/Kia. The entertainment system, which has no wired backup for iPhones, randomly disconnects, sometimes at a high frequency, sometimes rarely. There has been an update released in May 2021, but it only 'reduces' the amount of drop outs rather than eliminate the probelm entirely. I'll keep everyone posted on Hyundai's response as my experience with this amazing little i30 continues from brand new ownership.

    Thank you so much for the video. I cancelled my i30 Active order today due to this issue and I've test driven the new Kia Cerato Sport (Safety Pack) that comes with the 10 inch wired display but the only downside is the outdated LCD dash odometer.

    Thanks for posting this! It’s at least somewhat reassuring to know there’s other people with this issue. For everyone’s reference; I ended up raising a case with Apple & going through a very high level technical support + engineering team and getting assigned a case manager. This went on for MANY months and came with ALOT of tests. They finally confirmed recently it is nothing to do with Apple and all tests were fine on their end. A complaint I had with Hyundai also did nothing and just stated to keep updating my phone & car when relevant updates came out. Raised a case with Fair trading that got closed after they stated they could not get in contact with Hyundai. Lost as to of where to look next.

    Same thing here, screen crashes 3 to 6 times an hour, It isn’t safe to be constantly resetting the display while driving , I heard a rumour that Maurice Blackburn are considering a class action, maybe if enough of us register.

    As an update to this Hyundai have confirmed they are aware of the issue, the are hoping the next Apple IOS update due latter in the year will go some way to fixing the issue, they have offered no help or assistance beyond that, I have lodged a formal complaint with the ACCC which you can do online, I suggest all owners do the same thing as it may force Hyundai’s hand, your only other choice is to just put up with it.

    @@derekdorsett3353 Hi Derek, I tried 3 different model iphones and they all crashed, whilst this is true with android in wireless format, you can switch to wired mode with android and it works fine, passed me off as well, I had to ditch my thousand $ iphone and purchased an older samsung s10 to see how it worked, been using it for the last 4 months with very little issue, it is definitely Hyundai's implementation of the wireless application but they refuse to fix it so you do not have much choice, buying a cheap phone was the most cost effective workaround.

    Your email isn’t in your about section. Hyundai owner here. Bought the 2022 Hyundai Elantra Convenience package and having the same issues. I’ve called the customer care line that Hyundai keeps blasting all around the comments 5 times over the span of two days and have received the exact same troubleshooting steps with NO SOLUTION or answer to fix this. One person even blamed Apple and said I would have to “contact Apple since it’s Apple CarPlay”. If Hyundai doesn’t fix this, I will not be keeping this car and will be filing a BBB complaint

    Thanks for the video. I was going to do one myself. Same problem here with the new Kona, in Romania.I think I have the same system as you, just in a different casing. I basically can’t use Gmaps or Waze, not even make phone calls…it keeps dropping

    I have a 2020 Kia Rio and facing the same issue with an iphone Xr using wireless carplay. For me it works much stable if I close all the running apps and put the phone into low battery mode before boarding the car. It is far from perfect but disconnect events are significantly less.

    Brand new i30 doing the same thing. Dealership told me it’s Apple’s fault and nothing they can do about it. Reduces a brand new car to simply having an AM/FM radio. Would never have bought it if I had known

    Same thing here with santa fe 2022…. In canada… i totally love the car (all aspects of it: driving, comfort, looks, etc). But carplay keeps disconnecting….

    Great video thanks man. Picked up mine brand new yesterday (AUGUST 2021) yesterday & had heard this was an issue. Definitely still is. Have you managed to replicate the issue with the use if the wired connection or using the wifi in place as a means of connection over Bluetooth? I haven’t explored it all myself yet but it’s a bit of a pain so far.

    I am fairly certain the iPhone is not able to connect wirelessly no matter what setting. Just waiting for the September iPhone update, as per advised from Hyundai. I have my ongoing doubts that that will due anything, especially considering that the Android also periodically does this (to a much lesser extent). Another update vid will be up shortly after the IOS release. :)

    I just bought this car (even the same colour!) and have been having this exact issue! It’s so annoying lol I get it quite often when using maps or driving in rural areas. Have you heard anything else from Hyundai about this?

    Similar problem on VW Passat Elegance 2020/2021. The carplay will keep trying to re-connect like 5 6 times. Very frustrating when deciding which turn to take when using Waze/Maps. I have ended up taking wrong turnings. Disappointing.

    My 2019 Hyundai Elantra never had this issue but my 2021 does and yes it does on the maps/: and it makes me panic and I have driving anxiety

    I have the new Hyundai i30 N and this issue is the biggest con, especially without the ability for a wired connection. Just downloaded iOS 15 to see if there's a fix with that. Will know later today.

    Upgraded to iOS 15 - it has improved but not completely resolved the issue unfortunately. I usually get 3 drop outs on the way to work, today I got 1.

    I just bought the 2021 Elantra and love the car. I am having the same issue. Mine randomly disconnects and reconnects and it's not just the navigation. It is driving me nuts!

    I have a 2020 Kia Ceed with the exact same problem in 2024. I thought it was a cable issue as sometimes the car doesn’t recognise the phone at all, but sometimes it does recognise the phone but will cut out mid maps or terrible sing along to Spotify!

    My 2021 Kia Rio GT Line has exactly the same issues with Apple CarPlay. Maps, Google Maps and Spotify are very glitchy. Also today when I was talking on the phone in the car via CarPlay it randomly started dialling other numbers from my call history during my call.

    As far as I know, an updat was released in May (Australia). This was to "improve" the problem, but I don't think it has at all.

    I have a 2022 Kia Rio lx and it still is a consistent issue. Disconnects probably 5 to 6 times an hour but sometimes more than that. If anyone has figured out a solution to this issue please let me know

    Once again having the same issue with my 2021 i30, and I have also jumped to iOS 15 beta 2 and it does seem to happen a bit less although it does still happen I don’t think this is all Hyundai at fault

    I have a new Kia K5 GT-Line and my iphone sporadically does this disconnection during carplay. There is no wired mode, only the car’s self-generated wifi/bluetooth capability to connect to apple carplay. It can go for hours working fine or 1 minute, but then suddenly it starts and won’t stop doing it nearly every minute on the minute. There will be a slight skip in a song, then 5 seconds later it disconnects. Waze moves from the dash screen to my phone and the song pauses. Then 10 seconds later it re-gains connection and Waze moves back to the dash and the song un-pauses and plays. And about 50 seconds later that whole process happens again, and just keeps doing this. Resetting the phone sometimes works, but often not. Stopping and turning off the car and making everything turn off sometimes fixes it, but often not. I’ve tried changing cellular settings (like private wifi, low data mode, etc), turning on/off background app refresh stuff, turning on low power mode… nothing seems to work. My brain is telling me it’s either a GPS issue in the phone (the GPS is dropping and this results in the map program like Waze/apple maps/Google maps crashing), or something is causing the wifi connection the car transmits to the phone to briefly reset or crash. And because it’s happening to me in such a timely way (seemingly every 60 seconds when it starts), it seems like the phone is in a state of looping timed reconnection attempts. And the fact this isn’t happening to people who are wired (mine does not have that capability via apple, only android), logic says this is an iphone wifi/bluetooth/gps connectivity malfunction. Anyone with any suggestions for a solution would be so welcomed. IOS 15.2 didn’t solve it.

    i30 N-line android car play the same sometimes the wireless connection ceashes without any reasons, last times in open land so no tuneel or urban jammers etc. i think the radio have a poor/cheap wlan and bt transponder build insinde. but overall wireless is deactivated by hyundai so we uall se this engineer mode hack, its no garantie of work.

    It happens in my Kia SELTOS , very irritating, dangerous also, in jam packed Bangalore roads it disconnects when I actually need it for A right or left turn 😢
