I just bought a 2020 Z900 that I absolutely love. Beautiful color TFT display. Super strong running inline 4 cylinder that sounds amazing. The Z900 feels like a jet airplane ✈️ about to take off when accelerating.

Brent Mitchell yep, I rode both and I went the same way. I do like the look of both, not really preferring one over the other. Too many compromises with the MT09 for me. The black Mt09 is fire.

I'm confused here mate. Why have you posted a review of an 2018 MT09 and called it 2020 MT09 vs z900? You also said that the z900 has no electronic functions which is absolutely wrong. The newly updated 2020 has a full TFT dash, 3 levels of traction control, 4 rider modes and Bluetooth connectivity.... So apart from the lack of a quickshifter, is way better than the MT09.

Because in new Zealand the market isn't high enough so a "2020" model is actually a year or so older with a new vin registration. So it's registered at 2020 but technically isn't. Trust me, so stupid, and they tried to sell me one full price off the showroom with a new "2020 registered owner" when the bike is 2019. Waiting for 2021 model to be released and I will import a actual 2021 model instead of 2019 that they claim to be 2021...........FAIL

Yeah Nahh ... I disagree aye, I recently went and test rode both! My thoughts were the MT09 is like a dirty big dirt bike where the Z9 is upright but more of a sports feel and way more power!! The MT09 has horrible suspension and terrible cornering!! Needless to say I bought the Z9 not only for its sexy aggressive look but I felt it moulds to the shape of your body tucks you into the tank and just way more comfortable ride!! The MT was a rough/tough ride and jerky on the throttle!! I felt like I was sliding all over the seat and banging into the tank as I changed gears. The Z9 may not have a QS but gear changing is way more smoother... My opinion: if you want a dirt bike feel get the MT09 If you want a sports bike feel with a more relaxing upright position, get the Z9 😁✌️

The new z900 has a tft dash that looks way better then the mt09s and you can always add a quick shifter my opinion you get a better bike with the kawy

Interesting take. I am also looking at both of these. I favor the Kawasaki at this point. I prefer the slightly forward leaning riding position and the larger gas tank. I agree with you on the instruments, but the new Z900 has a beautiful tft display. I like the quickshifter, but it's not a deal maker or breaker. I think both bikes look good. The MT09 is lighter though, so a plus for the MT09. Nice review.

When adjusting levers pull the lever forward to take the tension off, then spin the adjuster. You are probably aware but I thought it was worth a mention.

Have they fixed the throttle mapping on the MT09??

I did a test ride on the mt09 a few days ago and I was really disappointed with it. the front end has a very vague feel about it. the front wheel never feels planted. allot of the appeal of the mt09 to younger riders is that it wheelies easy, but the problem with that is, even when the front wheel comes down. it just never feels like you are getting feedback from the front end of the bike. the bike has a feeling like the front wheel is barely on the ground. and at higher speeds the bike is not confidence inspiring at all. and I used to own a Kawasaki Ninja 900, and that bike felt rock solid stable and planted at any speed. and I would bet that the Z900 would feel the same way.

the z900 is definitely a better all around bike, but the yamaha looks awesome and sounds awesome. and both are very reliable.

That’s literally the fun of getting an MT-09 lmao, you just described it. People love the manic and not very confidence inspiring handling ride and suspension, and it’s better now than it was before.

How are you feeling now that Yamaha launched the 2021 model with more power, more torque, less weight, better suspension front and rear, a six axis IMU with cornering ABS and a color TFT dash?

Just a heads up, the way you described a quickshifter was wrong. They do not disengage the clutch, they simply cut fuel at the exact instant when you load the shift lever, balancing the tension between the gears in the transmission and allowing it to slide into the next gear. You can do the same thing without a QS simply by blipping the throttle while preloading the shift lever with your toe, it will slide into gear perfectly as soon as the trans unloads

Congratulations! Sorry - Is this an old video being republished in 2020 ? I’m asking because you mentioned 2018 MT09 and you seem to be referring to old version of Z900 which doesn’t have TFT display and Electronics ( Riding Moses, TC etc.. ) which the 2020 model has.. Anyway, To each his own ! I find the stock exhaust note of Z900’s Inline 4 very sweet.. Even though I’m not a big fan of Kawi’s “Sugomi” styling, I find Z900’s looks at par with ( if not better than ) those of MT09 !

Have it almost 2 years and never feel regret even once, Torque is more important for me than top speed.

I disagree with you and probably everything but as long as you’re happy and riding that’s all that matters in the end.

If u just had waited a bit 🙂 New z900 has everything, better dash and power modes except shifter But thats fine as shifter on mt is only for up so u get confused Have for both direction or better use clutch ✅

Im thinking about buying a XSR900, only im afraid it might be a bit to much😅. I have been riding a 2002 Suzuki SV650S for the last 2 years, it also is my first bike.

I’ve only been riding for 4 months. Started on 2016 Yamaha Bolt c-spec sold it on the same day I picked up a 2022 MT-10.

Kawasaki all day man. 2020 z900 has 4 rider modes, full TFT screen 3 level traction control, ABS, adjustable front and rear (albeit not fully) suspension and sweet engine. You are wrong about the z900. Edit: I notice your MT-09 ain't 2020 model dude. Why are you posting it as 2020 vs z900 2020?

Only thing I can think of why I would buy the MT09 over the Z900 is the weight, the Z900 is too heavy and not good for heavy traffic. Why I would buy the Z900 is that it has a 4-cylinder proper engine, it is a lot cheaper than MT09, the savings you can use to buy a quickshifter, auto blip, handlebar lifter, proper exhaust. The sound of a 4-cylinder always beat a 3-cylinder and lower. I don't like the looks of the MT09, it looks a like a bee with small eyes making the bike look weak in my opinion.

The fact that you’re calling the cp3 engine from the MT 09 shows that you never rode it and are probably just mad that someone likes the MT better than the Z. If you would say the Z is better suspension wise, or that it has a better digital cluster I would agree, but the CP3 engines is one of the most loved engines out there.

The z900 2020-2022 is a whooooole different bike my dude

Most naked bikes look the same nowadays.paying more for the fancy dash,electronics etc than build quality.and i own a 2020 z900,great bike but parts rusting after 5 months...bike washed and dried and kept in garage!.as say,build quality is just not there anymore.honda and kawasaki always had good build but not if your using them 12 months a year now.

If the z900 had up and down quickshifter and the same price it is now I’d buy it over the mt09 but the xsr900 is way more prettier 😮‍💨

Three things you mentioned are wrong IMO. 1- You like that you sit 'on' the bike while with the Z900 you sit 'in' it. But with 'in' it one feels less secure and more exposed to the wind. 2- The Z900 dashboard is ugly! In fact it looks way better than the stone-age dash of your MT09! 3- Exhaust sound of MT09 is better. I disagree, the Z900 jet-like sound is better.
