2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross - Review & Road Test

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross looks nothing like it's namesake Eclipse, but Mitsubishi still hopes to capitalize on the sporty heritage of said coupe with their newest compact SUV. Does this latest ute, in an already crowded marketplace, have the genetics to stand out?

I have this car. Top of the line SEL with touring package. It is amazing. It had a very solid build quality and such amazing value. I have all the safety features I’ve wanted for a more affordable price. The touch pad is very intuitive and is the only way I control the volume. You could also control the volume through the steering wheel as well.

I test drove one. It is quiet, seats are very comfortable and soak up the speed bumps. Engine has plenty of go too. The rear window may take getting used to but it packs a lot of safety features. I think they have a winner here. Most comments from people who have driven it say its great.

Im glad to hear that, my parents (and therefore my future family car) happened to stumble into a Mitsibushi dealer as we were looking for a new car. Whilst I'm a sports guy and primary driver for the family, I also live away for college, and I knew for long family trips me and my parents in particular really needed something that doesnt need a clutch, spacious and comfortable on the bumps, whilst having enough pep to keep up in the motorways. I was mostly worried about the ride comfort as my Ford Focus mk2.5 whilst lovely and sporty enough for me, was definitely a backache for my parents. As I'm the car guy within my family I gave my thumbs up to the exceed model and await to pick up with my parents in a few weeks and the more I research the more I'm getting good feedback attuned to my parents needs.

So I just purchased my brand new 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL with Touring Package and S-AWC and got $6,700.00 off MSRP. Well we actually bought 2, one in Octane Blue and one in Red Diamond in identical trims! It reminds me of a Volvo and an Aztek in the rear and I like the styling of both vehicles so I love it. Plus the rear led signature of the parking lights is unmistakable and looks amazing and I love how the hid the rear wiper under the roof spoiler to avoid ice and snow building up on it. Also the rear styling aids visibility in my opinion giving a much larger glass area. One thing my salesman said his customers all say is that at night they love how the rear led bar that splits the rear windows directly lines up with and blocks the headlights of cars behind you from blinding you and by dang it sure does on 75% of vehicles, really neat. I have been averaging about 27 mpg in mixed so beating the numbers and it does better than our 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT AWC on fuel that we traded. Now the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE we also traded blew them both our of the water lol. But we are very pleased with the Eclipse Cross and the features are awesome and it is truly loaded! Plus the looks and questions it attracts are cool. I love the dual sunroofs, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel, the heads up display, surround view camera and multiple views to choose from, and the radar cruise worked flawlessly on the 1.5 hr drive home at 70 mph and rush hour traffic. I love the trim we purchased has all the safety features and the led headlights in this car are like wow you can see everything. The auto high beams are a really cool feature. The seats in this thing are so comfortable compared to our Mirage G4 and Outlander Sport, these seats just hug you and are soft and long distance comfortable. The smaller cargo area does not bother me at all as I purchased this suv more on the styling and Mitsubishi reliability than anything. We have always loved our Mitsubishis. I understand most (not all) people who buy this suv do so solely on the looks and that is why we got our 2 SELs with Touring Package. The Mitsubishi Connect app on our iPhones has worked amazing also and we have used it several times to start and shut off the Eclipse Cross, turn lights on and off, adjust the interior temp, and there are dozens of preferences and features you can adjust in the vehicle with the app. Plus it has the sos feature if air bags deploy and stolen vehicle assist. I called the call center with the black button and she went over everything it does and can do. So cool. Free for 2 years which is awesome and runs about $15.00 a month after that for the full package which I will gladly pay. So we are very happy with our 2 Eclipse Crosses and the amazing deal we got at Renn Kirby Mitsubishi from Tommy Moberly and Brendan (Juice). We tend to trade up about every 3 years and this is by far the most favorite vehicle I have owned to date.

I think Mitsubishi did pretty good with this. I actually prefer the rear style of this to other SUVs including my Outlander Sport GT. It gives it a unique look in the rear and looks cool at night lite up. Not sure how I feel about the touch pad but think its cool they offered it but I would probably still use just the touch screen. I like adjustable rear seat but I prefer normal rear head rests like our Outlander Sport GT and Mirage G4 SE vs these flat slide down type. Just make normal ones and have them flip forward when the rear seat is not in use. I love this Diamond Red Paint its sharp and the would be the trim line and color choice I would purchase. My biggest complaint that I hate is when you get a lower model even the SE which is just below this one all the buttons on the dash to the left of the steering wheel are blank! Its a lot of buttons like 8 or so that are just empty and looks awful and its the first thing someone would see when showing them your new car and looks cheap. Its a pet peeve to me just like on lower trim cars that dont have fog lights they leave the black caps shaped like a fog light to know you didn’t get them lol. Just make a more stylistic piece of plastic to look better when cars don’t have fog lights. But back to the dash trim I think they should do something different there for none SEL models so it don’t look so bad. Overall ai love Mitsubishi and we have been extremely happy with the 3 Mitsubishis we have owned. 7 of us at work own Mitsubishis and all of us love them. They range from a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer CVT with 148,000 miles to a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport LE AWC CVT. We personally own a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT AWC and a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE and we really do like them both. We like to purchase top trims with all options and accessories when purchasing a car. We made the mistake of not getting everything on a few other cars before our Mitsubishi’s and regretted it and wish we would have spent the extra to get everything. The other cool thing with amitsubishi is with rebates and dealer discounts you can get top trim models for base to mid teim prices. Our 2017 Mirage G4 SE had an MSRP of $18,115.00 and we got it for $12,714.00 (cheaper than a base ES 5 speed). Our 2016 Outlander Sport GT had an MSRP of $32,940.00 because it had $5,000.00 in options and accessories like navigation, remote start, all weather floor and cargo mats, mud guards, led fog lights, chrome package, large rear spoiler, brushed steel fuel door, window rain guards, cargo tote, bodyside moldings, front and rear silver bumper under covers, and more. We get it for around $27,000.00 so essentially we did not pay for any of our extras. Thats what ai like about Mitsubishi if you shop around you will find many dealers give huge discounts on top of the Mitsubishi rebate! We always purchased new Hyundai and Kia vehicles and I still think Hyundai and Kia are great cars. However we had a lot of issues with our 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS and decided to switch brands and thats when we purchased a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT with Navigation and our 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT. We liked the little Mirage so much we traded it when the updated 2017s came out which made them even better and I love it. Our next vehicle will be an Eclipse Cross like in the Video after it has been out a year or 2 and make sure there are no bugs to work out and that the engine is good. Our Mirage and Outlander Sport have been out for years and are time tested and proven. The Mirages 1.2L 3 cylinder has been on sale in other countries since 2011 - 2012 with no major defects or flaws and is a very basic design thats proven to be reliable, cheap to maintain and easy to work on. The Outlander Sports 2.4L 4 cylinder engine has been on sale since around 2005 and is a world engine and has proven very reliable in the many models it has been used in. The girl out our work has this engine in her 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer with 148,000 miles on it and has done nothing to the engine and transmission except oil changes and 2 CVT fluid changes and this car is ran pretty hard. Thanks for the great review KBB!!!

But own every every gen of eclipse n do not see what these cuntz all crying about. Especially these young millenials got news for you back in the day critics said it was a chic car n that was during the DSM era n the post DSM era people bitched cos no AWD n no more turbo n the 4g final year was a complete flop in sales like less than 2000 units sold. Now they all experts. SPORT cars from JAPAN do not sale(GT-R are made in limited quantities...the NSX relauch so far a complete flop, and the new SUPRA already getting bad reviews.) Say be patient eventually NISSAN will reband a future 370Z with a Mitsu logo or something similar but the market not ready for it now.

It doesn't matter how many internet comments complain about it, the Eclipse is more than adequate and the perfect step to turning the brand around. The average SUV/Crossover consumer is an ignorant dimwit. They merely judge cars by: - "has AA/Carplay" - "ohhhh, it rides nice" (as if they knew what "nice" meant) - "it's easy to park" (so they like light, vague steering) - "oh, fancy looking interior" (even if it has some impracticality) Add aggressive incentives for cheaper purchase cost to the competition and the warranty, and you have the formula to sell tons of them. Get over it haters. Making another sports car is a terrible financial move. Every other brand has figured this out already. Enthusiasts are the worst kind of consumers to focus on mass market sales. Sell hundreds and thousands of SUVs and you will be rolling around in enough money to make a sports car for fun again.

I have the base model with s-awc for about $24,500 and I think it's going to be a beast in the snow especially with yaw control even though its only brakes. The display in the base is the same size but placed in a more integrated housing i think it looks better, however you lose alot of the features like the mitsubishi connect etc. I would recommend the SE model, although your stuck with 18inch wheels with anything other than the base model to clear the electronic parking brake where I have a pull handle. In any case this is actually a nice car if you don't pay too much

Outlander ASX, and Eclipse Cross should use the paddle shifters, it makes a difference... I enjoy use them on my ASX. Also, is setup correctly, has the best setup... fixed on the base, and not on the steering wheel. Easy to use, you know where they are even driving fast in a curve.

A very fair and decent review at last, and here are my thoughts from an Eclipse Cross owner in the UK:Unless you are a knowledgeable petrol head, the original Mitsubishi 'Eclipse' may not register with you - it didn't with me for that reason, so my decision to purchase this vehicle was not blinded simply because of the resurrection of the older model's name - it's way too unintelligent, and quite frankly ludicrous to trash a new car, like some people have, based on name alone, particularly when the critics who pan it have probably never even driven it! Car aesthetics are subjective - it's design language may not appeal to some, but for others it will be just right, and I think the profile is quite sharp, dare I say 'sporty looking,' and attractive for an SUV trying to stand out in a crowded segment. Whilst I concur the rear light bar/split window is controversial in design, having driven the car for over a year I have never had an issue with it from a visibility standpoint - indeed, I find it helps to block out dazzling headlamp beams from cars following at night as a benefit, rather than a negative feature. With two large wing mirrors displaying orange warning symbols for cars approaching to overtake in the blind spot, this helps overcome any perceived safety issues as well, and on the upper trim models the supplied features - reversing rear cross traffic alert, forward and rear parking sensors, 360 degree camera, forward collision mitigation braking system, adaptive cruise control, 7 airbags, head-up display with speed, cruise control, and visual warnings, powered wing mirrors (when you need to retract them in tight-width scenarios) hands free smartphone integration, leather seats, SAWC -super all wheel control, auto brake hold, twin sunroofs, dual climate control, auto sensing windscreen wipers, automatic headlamps, auto high beam adjust, front and rear foglamps, a punchy Rockford Fosgate 9 speaker sound system, touchscreen + trackpad, and other refinements make this a very good package indeed.Oh yes, I nearly forgot - the hood is quite heavy to lift and only has one supporting strut - dual gas lift supports might have been a better idea? but i'm no mechanic in this area. The CVT transmission is super-smooth, with no perceived jolts or drop-outs in it's operation, and if used appropriately the paddle shifters work well to accelerate the car quickly for speedy overtaking maneuvers and steep downhill engine braking scenarios, to mention two situations I use them for - watch the rev counter stays within it's safety limits however. No Volume Knob? The steering wheel Selector has easy to use volume controls, also two fingers sliding up and down on the touchpad replicate this command, plus interacting with the touch screen volume icons also provides these adjustments - if cars in the future go the way of the Tesla Model 3 practically all controls will be touchscreen integrated with virtually no physical buttons at all! - so we need to adapt to the new concepts as they arise, methinks. Not all change is for the better however -too many distractions looking at a screen is not a good idea, as reckless mobile phone users without hands-free demonstrate !A physical volume knob is still ok though :-) Agreed, The Eclipse Cross is not like it's sporty predecessor, but it's decent low-down torque moves the car with nimble agility despite this, and is fine for anyone not wanting to be a boy racer trying to attract the attention of the police! Getting from one point to another safely and in comfort are my criteria, and this it does very well indeed. With my UK dealership matching a current Carwow discount, I purchased a factory-fresh 'Eclipse Cross 4 (one spec down from the top-of-the-range red only 'Special Edition') for £26,000. This included the first year's road tax at over £500, plus a three year servicing plan and a GAP insurance protection rolled up into the deal.Overall, I am delighted with it's responsiveness, comfort and drive - the minor niggles such lack of rear passenger air vents and a power-assisted tailgate could be resolved if the model continues to evolve, but I fear a lot of people are giving this car a bad press on forums such as KZread - 'Pontiac Aztek' references being one - and I haven't seen many on the UK roads, as yet.Shame, as it's a very competent and decent car to drive, and Mitsubishi's warranty is also very good.BTW: If you do decide to test drive this vehicle in the Auto SAWC version ensure the 'ECO Mode' button is disengaged as it makes the car's throttle response somewhat underwhelming.some reviewers have driven the car thinking it is flawed on performance simply because the ECO Mode button was activated and they were not aware of it.Try it both ways and the difference in response is very apparent!

Great review Lyn! In this market of super competitive crossovers it is very hard to stand out as a Mitsubishi even as a full option, 32k, SEL trim. The 10 year warranty does help and you do have a lot of gizmos but you must really be a Mitsubishi fan to buy it considering other crossovers (Nissan, Ford, Honda, Chevy).

I think a lot of these reviewers aren't knowledgeable about vehicle they are reviewing... researching over night is not enough .... it's an electric steering which is adaptable, meaning it adapts base on your driving style/speed, as to body lean I understand as it feels wired at first but I can assure you if push u will be surprise as to how stable the ride due to the technology.... paddle shift is a misconception of use ,ppl automatically assume that it a formula 1 race car and expect it to react like it is .... once u get use to this paddle shift u will love it especially during overtaking n engine break...most will not like the fact tht the gear will not do exactly what u input but that simple because they are selecting a wrong gear at the wrong speed... moving from 4 to 1rst gear is dangerous.... touch pad control is very good respond and doesnt required u to look down while using ....tht simple her not yet adapted to the use.... Basically most vehicle requires the user to adapter to their features
