2019 Hyundai i30N - REVIEW - pops, bangs and giggles from loudmouth hatch

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A sexy Hyundai? True. This i30N is the Korean brands first crack at the hot hatch market, and seems that their rivals are running for the hills. Perhaps they're scared of all the pops and bangs from the exhaust. We're not... we love 'em. Jump in and take a listen.

Great review especially the small details about the startup sound and radio. Sets you aside from the rest of KZread i30n reviews. (If it wasn't blatantly obvious already)

Another great review of another hot hatch of which there’s a growing list available now in NZ. I’ve recently purchased a 2019 Suzuki Swift RS which I’m not suggesting is a hot hatch contender but it is Hot and it is a Hatch and it’s very cool!

Im in Auckland NZ and ive only seen 1 of these in performance blue driving around, at the time i didnt really know what it was other than a hyundai but sounded really nice and also i really liked the look of it... Fast forward about 1 yr and this coming friday ill be a proud owner of a 2020 shadow grey hyundai i30N hatch!! Im so happy!. Been on the market for a hothatch for about 3, 4 months? Just before covid hit NZ and also been a honda owner for about 10yrs now so my 1st choice was the civic type R fk8 my 2nd option was the mk7 golf R n i even considered an STI, so after watching hundreds of different videos and driving the sti and the i30N (not the type R, as none in Auckland for a while now) i just couldnt say no to the N, its an absolutely amazing machine that gives you everything you want on a daily car.. performance, luxury, comfort and the best of all puts a smile in your face every time. What an incredible job by Hyundai cant wait till friday!

I am literally going through the exact same situation, Civic R was my first choice and then the Golf R but the more videos I watch about i30 N, the more i incline towards it. going for a test drive this weekend and most likely going to buy one !! Let me know if its still the same fun as it was when you first got the car !! Cheers

Looks great, I will be taking one for 24 hours soon, the FIRST thing I noticed was the pedal spacing.. did you find that? To toe and heel, the spacing between the brake and the throttle pedal is far to excessive

Hi James. It’s been a little while since I drove the i30N so can’t recall my experiences of the pedal box too well. If you say it’s too much of a stretch then I’m inclined to agree. I suppose they figure everyone will use rev match and not bother with the analogue approach, but I’m with you...little details like that can detract from the drive experience when you’re after complete immersion in a spirited drive. Hope your day in the N shows it’s got more upsides than down. Cheers for watching.

it has auto rev match... the best rev matching you will get that is why it is like that

It’s a great car, but I feel we are screwed by Hyundai NZ vs the equivalent offering in Australia. NZ$55k vs A$43k for same spec (~NZ$48k when adjusted for currency and GST). Aussie gets 5yr unlimited k warranty (+ a conditional track warranty), we only get get crap 3yr 100k version. This car was rightly hyped, but other than the dealer forecourt, I’m yet to see one on the road in NZ after 6 months on sale.

That really sux, I really enjoy the Hyundai product. Had a good number of them, still do. Yeah I did price numbers with other areas of the world including Oz and I was more than a bit cheesed off. But to now learn we even get lesser of warranty deal into boot has done damage to how a feel about Hyundai in NZ. I thought they were good guys. Now not so much. Goes with alot of NZ things doesn't it?
