2019 Chevy Silverado Z71 Trail Boss Custom | Is it worth it?!?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My truck is still in the shop after 2 months. The dealership gave me this 2019 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss Custom as a loaner so I figured I would give it a little review.
This is just a KZread video and just my opinions on this particular truck. Please don’t take anything too seriously. 👍🏼

I own this truck except it is painted black. There are definitely areas for improvement no doubt (i.e. interior) , but for the money, the truck is really capable. Also, everyone I know, as well as people I don't, have only had complements about the truck. Even people that don't like chevys in general liked the look of the truck. In terms of utility, the bed is bigger/wider, more tie down hooks, better lighting, the remote tailgate is great for when you are walking up with a cart full of lumber or mulch, the ride is stiff (as it should be for trucks), and I personally feel very comfortable going 85 on the highway. I think everyone knows that the interior in Silverado is crap, that's why I got the custom trim level. Why fork out thousands of dollars more for a higher trim level that just gives you a "perfume sprayed on crap" quality interior lol.

I personally could not spend $45k on a brand new uncomfortable truck. That’s why I bought an LTZ for $10k more in 2015. If my budget was $40-45k I’d buy the nicest, most comfortable two year old truck. But to each their own. That’s genuinely honest to admit you own this truck and it is uncomfortable. Mad respect!

So here is my little review. I own the exact truck 5.3 6 speed I have had it for over a year now and I have 25,000 miles on it. City, hwy, and some trails from easy to medium difficulty nothing crazy but it did very well def not a high speed off roader which is fine because I live on the east coast. The truck did shift Terribly because of the AFM. So I installed a AFM disabler which worked wonders for it. I also installed a oil catch can because it’s direct injected. So I like the work truck mix in it. With my wife, two kids, and 3 german shepherds it works for me. I’m not a fan of all of the bells and whistles and leather. It would just get ruined anyway. I got a lot of options such as steps, storage , the all weather floor Matt’s (which are amazing) wheels locks, and a few other things. I walked out with it at 44,000 which isn’t the best deal but a good deal. The truck rides amazing IMO as well gets decent mileage for me. 15-16 city and 20 was my highest for hwy. I’ve had rams and fords and so far this is my favorite truck. To each there own but this is my view on it.

And now chevy is outselling ram and Ford at least in Q3. They released just their higher priced trucks first to get some buzz going, ram was heavily discounting their trucks at the same time. I agree the front end on the custom doesn't look good but the trail boss LT is the most aggressive looking truck out right now imo. It seems like most of your complaints come from the fact you are comparing a base model to the top of the line LTZ which is valid. Most of your issues are resolved by moving up the trim level. I also have a 2015 silverado LT with the 5.3 and I would say this truck is pretty comparable on the interior but more capable than mine. Looking forward to the 6.2 trail boss in 2020 but even moreso the 3.0 diesel.

Let’s debug this video. The 2021 custom trail boss with the 5.3 gas afm not dfm. They use the old model engines for work truck trims. The 6spd is also a carry over. The center console now opens for storage for the 21-22 model years. The tailgate is electric because the high country and ltz do offer a fully powered tailgate so I’m assuming Chevy just did electric to save costs. The headlights are halogen bulb which is old tech. But they are actually pretty bright and are they retry good at directing the light, it’s also an easy change for led bulbs. The seats are made to be tough because work trucks are used for just that, work. The skid plates being thin, jeep uses thin skid plates on their wranglers and I’ve rock crawled those harder then you’ll ever take a Chevy and they take a beating but protect what they are supposed to. This truck isn’t made for rock crawling so why would Chevy waste the money to flat belly these with thick armor when it isn’t designed for that? You also said the power is lacking. They offer the 6.2L with 420hp and 460pt.ft of tq and the 6.2 comes with the 10 speed that is borrowed from Ford. The 8 speed comes on the higher trim levels but that 8 spd has also been the problem child for the last 3 years. Ranchos are cheap as hell, easy to switch them out though and not too expensive. But for stock, they give more looks and make people feel good inside knowing it isn’t part bins stuff. All in all. The review was your opinion and I respect that, but the look isn’t ugly, I’d say it’s polarizing since some people love it and some hate it.

Motor Trend was running mid to low six second 0-60 runs with the 5.3 engine so not sure why you don’t “feel” its fast enough. I can understand the criticism about the interior but come on, this is really just and entry level PU with a cheap block lift, cheap Rancho shocks, and some stickers slapped on. Like some others mentioned, they can be bought for mid 30s which is not bad for a V8 crew cab PU these days. And people who actually work out of their trucks still appreciate being able to sit three up front when the rear is full of tools or packages. I’m not really a Chevy fan but your review seems to be comparing apples to oranges by comparing a basic trim with higher trims in other vehicles.

This trim level or option might be shit but don’t let this video discourage you from Silverado trucks. LT and LTZ are elegant trucks. And well built. Granted the 2019 outer designs kind of killed what the 2014 through 2018 had going. But GM still makes good trucks. Feel out what best suits you and your style.

Francisco Quintero I own an LTZ. It’s been at the dealership since April 16 th and can’t wait to get it back. If they gave me a nicer trim truck that wasn’t a stiff, stripped down trail boss work truck, my only gripes would probably be the aesthetics... and the WiFi hot spot only works if you have cell signal

You sound like a sales person haha! I really like the LT Trail Boss in red, however I’m disappointed in the very blah interior design, and lack of interior color choices, so if 2020 doesn’t produce more choices, I’m gonna wait for the next gen.

What really do you get for an LT? Power seat, center console storage? Some rear seat storage? I’ll take the 6 speed tranny any day over the 8... it’s all preference, only thing I upgraded on my trail boss custom was my stereo, but I do that to all my vehicles. I’m completely happy with the custom interior and it saved me a bunch of money. I think my only gripe is indeed the center console, but for $300 I ordered the lt trim console and it bolts right in...

You are correct, and I was wrong. The trailboss Custom does have AFM that can drop it in to 4 cylinder mode. I could never get the truck to do that while I drove it for two months. Not only does it no longer have an indicator, the truck never got better than 13 mpg. That said, the nicer trim trucks have Dynamic Fuel Management that can pull spark and turn off 1-7 cylinders, as well as newer transmissions that haven’t been redesigned since 2004. Maybe the nicer trailboss, LT’s and LTZ get better gas mileage than what most 20 year old gas pickups get? www.google.com/amp/gmauthority.com/blog/2018/10/2019-silverado-1500-two-different-5-3l-v8-engines-offered/amp/

GM needs to stop hiring Soy boys and metro sexual's to design their trucks. Ford did it, so now gm does it. Its a stupid idea and no way to turn it off. while cleaning the interior with he truck off i accidentally pressed the tailgate release while wiping everything down. luckily the stupid thing didn't hit the other car parked behind while coming down. lets stop putting stupid frivolous crap like this in trucks, and stop taking things out like height adjustable seat belt points.

That trail boss custom with no power seat, no center console storage, ranchos?(lmao), no auto dimming mirror...should cost no more than the low 30s. My 20 year old tundra trd limited came with Bilsteins, power driver seat, auto dimming mirror with compass and thermometer, 6cd changer(which was the thing back then). Center console with 2 storage compartments. Front bucket seats. Pretty much fully loaded in its day which still wasn't much more equipped than an SR5
