    Having ridden both, the MT10 is a fast road bike, but the Tuono is a superbike with handlebars. The Aprilia is in a class of its own, sublime.

    Traded my MT10 for a Tuono instead of spending money to make the MT10 how I wanted (rearsets, ecu flash, etc.) as it still wouldn't be as fast or handle as good as the Tuono. That said, loved the MT10, one of my all time favorites and I would gladly have another tomorrow, both sound fantastic.

    Great bike yes but better? Not so sure. My one was fast but reliable is another question. The Aprilia can be annoying when you are not in the mood too. But when you are in the mood wow she is a missile. But then again everything is fast as hell these days. Sold my V4 Tuono with 12,000k as worried about reliability. Had issues still under warranty so before it run out I sold it.

They are a stunning bike to ride the Aprilia V4's but reliable they are not. Sold mine as didn't trust it to stay together. Had mine fixed under warranty and sold it the first week I got it back. Now own a Yamaha MT10SP and I'll be sticking with this.

    I rode all of the super nakeds and ended up with the MT10 (standard not SP). It's just a mental bike, sure the Aprillia was technically a better bike but I couldn't justify the extra cost and found it massively uncomfortable and then there is the reliability. If money was no object and I had multiple bikes then I'd have gone Aprilia but as a do all bike for track days, touring, commuting the MT10 was perfect.

    Thanks so much for the review guys. I’m toying between exactly these two bikes and you have really helped me make my decision. Some things to add I’ve learnt: The riding position is very different between the two, more upright on the Yamaha, no fuel guage on the Aprilia, Yamaha poor fuel economy, both are the best sounding engines in their class, Yamaha a bit more ‘plastic’ and not as good finish especially with the controls. Stupid plastic fins on the Yamaha at the pillion seat which can get caught on your boot when dismounting and break off (stupid idea), Yamaha one headlight on looks retarded, both lights on would look a lot better? Yamaha better price point and I bet spares and serving would be a lot cheaper. Re-sale on the Yamaha I think would be possibly better as they seem to be more popular and common. Although I like the look of the Aprilia more I am going with the Yamaha In the SP model (especially after owning 4 Yamaha’s now👍

  • @twowheelpilot

    @twowheelpilot

    Had both and either bike isn't perfect fueling wise. However I have to agree the Aprilia is better there by a long shot. Nothing a reflash won't fix. The Yamaha is super conservative with throttle openings too. In the higher gears sometimes as much as 60% when you open the throttle 100%. Again the Aprilia wins here. The good news is with a reflash that can all be sorted and huge gains with the Yamaha, 20HP is realistic and easy plus throttle input derestricted. Sold my Aprilia V4 and now own a Yamaha MT10SP. I prefer the Yamaha over all but it's close. Either bike is fantastic.

    just curious... and not meant as an insult at all: when making videos for a larger public, why don't they speak 'regular' English? I mean, I'm not an English speaker... I speak Flemish (Belgian version of Dutch); in private, I speak with an accent or in dialect but at work or giving presentations or so, I speak more or less normal/standard Dutch. I always assumed Scottish or Irish or whatever would be similar... they could at least speak accent-less English. Or am I being naive here?

    @@dannyboydt85 hey Dan. Thanks for the reply. I don't commute on the bike as a general rule. I'd rather put a bit more fuel in that run two bikes. Need to burn alot of fuel before the cost of a second bike pays for itself. It's a 1000 so accept it won't be super economic. Saying that my old 2000 R1 I had years ago used to do 50mpg cruising on the motorway! Was crazy good on fuel.

    craig loades yeah that’s true, i understand. It’s crazy to think that all the older bikes used to get quite a considerable amount extra in terms of miles before needing to refuel. And you’d think EFI bikes would be more efficient than carbed bikes. Perhaps it’s something to do with all the bloody emissions laws in place these days

  • @twowheelpilot

    @twowheelpilot

    @@dannyboydt85 yep for sure and in my opinion many of the older carbed bikes used to have a much more subtle throttle response. More precise and smooth. I still remember my mark 2 R1 having one of the nicest power deliveries of any bike I've ever owned.
