Yeah but .....'it knows when it needs' ..costs $$$$..now they can determine thru the ECU when a motorcycle meant for track use is being used on the track. Why is this kind of software even in an ECU. So they can quibble over a broken engine, say it was abused on the track. I know when my bike needs maintenance via owners manual and a factory service manual. This electronic crap is what adds thousands to the price.. I trust a throttle with a cable vs a fly-by-wire..has anyone seen the amount of parts that go into a fly-by-wire throttle vs cable...and everything must be set just so for it to work properly. Has to show X parts of a volt, potentiometers to measure resistance,... you need a Masters in electronic engineering, instead of a a couple metric wrenches.. The throttle body potentiometer fly-by-wire throttle in my GM crapped out, which told the ECU my engine was being damaged so it went into limp home mode immediately dropping speed to 10 MPH which almost caused me to get obliterated by a box truck behind me.... All because of carbon build-up on the TB blade which held it open a smidge causing problems. Just insane and I can't understand why manufacturers go down and down this electronics rabbit hole !!

I'm no motorcycle mechanic or engineer, I couldn't afford 6K for entry to RSV4 so gambled and bought a 2012 aprc from a breakers for 2.8K and just researched KZread etc to diagnose and fix all (7) issues for below £500. That included a 2nd hand gearbox for £350. (That was to swap out a damaged gear, with spares, but the ratios didn't match, maybe later or Tuono, anyway I compared fitting which was exactly the same so just slotted the whole box in, closer ratio and works perfect). I could, if I wanted, sell the old box and get most of that £350 back. As Aprilia and Moto Guzzi are in the same stable you can get many parts that are shared for a fraction of the cost - sensors, relays etc. Anyone can own one of these and do the work, don't be afraid! All info is out there, you just have to put in some time. The bonus is you are much more connected with the bike when you understand how its put together. Be quick, the number of RSV4s available are a fraction of the other makes.

Really loved this review. I honestly love these bikes but I am 6ft tall and the ergos are on the RSV are really punishing for taller riders and but more importantly I have PTSD from the failures I have seen on them. There was this aprilia-only trackday I attended many years back and I saw never so many engines blow up in one day. Some were catastrophic failures where the whole engine case basically explodes and emptied out ALL its oil on the circuit, badly injuring the rider who of course crashed badly. I still remember that day and it left an indelible impression on my mind about how much reliability matters: it's life or death, literally. Still love this bike, but doubt i'll ever own one sadly. Aprilia dropped the ball really badly on the reliability front and even if they were good now, its hard to take the leap of faith and give them a try. I suspect i'm not the only one thinking this way

ducati are blessed that VW took over back in 2018/19 The electronics are sound , I get the impression that Aprilia could do with something similar. Valve clearances . . . it is what it is , the most powerful production bike with the best sound & stability in the corners , If you cant afford the servicing get a Japanese bike & spend money on upgrades. What worries me about the Aprilia is this notion of having to open the gas tank after you've ridden due to Aprilias Fuel tank design!?! Anyone have an Aprilia from 2017+? small chance U might react but i hope this reaches u. I'm in the market for a new trackbike and have a big chunk of cash saved up sold all my road bikes apart from an old RSV4 APRC. As soon as that is sold i'm going to order a new bike without registration just for trackday use and maby an occasional low level local endurance race. The RSV4 is the bike i lust after but i'm afraid that with 1.83m tall the bike will be too cramped for me, even after replacing the rearsets and clipons. The other option would be a S1000RR which seems to have the edge on the RSV4 electronic's wise. Seeing as u have experience with riding both bikes hard I'd love to have your opinion on the matter.

I certainly hope that a bike company whose slogan is "be a racer" will cover track use under its warranty. But that's not the concern when it comes to reliability: dealer network, parts availalability, and technician skills, would be the worries. Italian bikes are as reliable as any other bike, but still, old beliefs linger which is a shame really, because they offer charteristics of ownership that Asian bikes can't, like soul and character...for those who want that type of thing, as opposed to "bang for buck" and lingering myths of superior reliability. Plus, that Apr v-4 sounds excellent!!!

The bike sat for 3 months waiting for injectors that were faulty and a bad psv valve on the tank . 9000 km the head gasket went. A ten thousand dollar loss on trade. Never again will I buy anything in the brand again and talk out any friends of mine considering them. If Aprilia managed by he situation better I would have a different mind set. But they didn’t. All because of carbon build-up on the TB blade which held it open a smidge causing problems. Just insane and I can't understand why manufacturers go down and down this electronics rabbit hole !!

@@carlmayer691 Cause Bike-companies know what theyre doing unlike GM! ;) I think its great the ECU can tell you that its time for service when you do trackriding. You cant honestly believe the serviceschedule is the same for a bike riding at the revlimit all the time as the one doing normal riding life on the streets? x.x

And in fairness to Aprilia, the UK guys said they still honour a warranty claim regardless of track use or not.

Great review, coming from missano and testing a duc and then testing the RSV4, that's a lot of excitement.
Great review 👍
Appreciate the discussion of warranty and self scheduled maintenance, with track use. Great informative review. A four year warranty on such an extreme engine is tempting.
I was literally on a track day there today on my R6 13s. And it suits that track perfectly!!
What an excellent video , thanks
Thanks for the review
Need to see more of Chris on these reviews! The people have spoken!
This guy is 3rd on my list of people I like to watch on youtube, after Ari and Zack! Good job!

Great review 👌🏆
As usual another great informative vid Chris. Toprak could do with some tips over the mountain apparently. Your the man 🏁
A lot of other people have said it before and they are 100% correct, Chris you do the best reviews, no nonsense, no bullshit, you ride each bike the way they were made to be ridden and you tell us about them honestly. I would love to own that Aprilia, what a bike. Now I just have to go check my lotto ticket. Keep up the great work. 👍👏👏👏
I LOVE YOUR REVIEW BRO
hell of a rider Chris, seen you in Aberdare park few weeks ago, loving the channel too 👍🏼👍🏼
This brand new gen RSV4 is getting amazing reviews all over KZread 👌🏻👌🏻. Ive owned and rode a 19 RSV4 for all but dam it 3 years and hands down the best bike ive ever owned. To pick up on your reliability point i can only say it never missed a beat through my ownership not once. The only drawback with owning an Aprilia in the uk is still dealer network Aprilia definitely need to sort that out but as a bike WOW 🤩
excellent review
great job thank you
I'm sold, I want one. Feels nice what he told about the engine.
Nice review. Great bike. Never owned one yet but hope to
Wow, beyond my budget and way beyond my skill, but WOW. Good video Chris well done. That is a proper bike review.
I jumped on my RSV4 at Cadwell and that's the only time it triggered TC..it's a great nimble bike and nothing beats it's turn in and smoothness
Really like this Chris guy
Chris finally reviews an RSV4 for us. It's a good day.
"Have to be Millimetre perfect" Tarran Mac has proven that more than once. I've only been for a trackday and a CRMC meet but what a phenominal place, I really must get over there again this year.
Great video. You look very fast on that track !
Nerves of steel for that track lad 👍
Hopefully you will do more on the RSV4, would likemto see you wheeling and wobbling over your single lane country road you use, backing it in etc 👍
Chris is the reason there's no rain anywhere, god is watching bikeworld and forgetting to make rain 💪
Sick havaianas mate, great taste in sandals.
Chris, the best bike reviewer on KZread
Excellent honest review of the bike great video sir and because of your honest review I just subscribed to your channel
Super test young man. Really enjoyed it. When you finish racing you’ve definitely got a career testing and commentating. Get onto the people who do the media for MotoGP, WSB and BSB , I think your really good 👍
I'm no motorcycle mechanic or engineer, I couldn't afford 6K for entry to RSV4 so gambled and bought a 2012 aprc from a breakers for 2.8K and just researched KZread etc to diagnose and fix all (7) issues for below £500.
Great guy seems really down to earth.
I suspect i'm not the only one thinking this way
This track is terrifying, and I've never even been there - let alone ride there!! I mean that Misano/Cadwell onboard comparison...
Re 2021+ RSV4 Incredible front end feel and brake performance, predictable power delivery that pulls incredibly hard, electronics are amazing though wheelie control feels a bit crude (so better to manage with your throttle), I get better starts doing it manual vs launch control, stock suspension is a really high standard, i upgrades to Ohlins cartridges a and shock and barely noticed a difference. What a machine 👏🏽
My Dream Bike 😍

Good review especially with Chris as it's layman's terms of explanation as I'm more into analogue bikes,,but mine does not have 200+ BHP 🙂🙂🙂☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
A mate has had 2 tuono’s both did 60k before he got rid of them. Not one problem with them throughout. Although it seems it’s harder to find a good service provider here in Australia…
Nice !
Aprilia US took care of me when I had a fuel tank issue back in the day that was not their fault. US put too much ethanol in the fuel mixture which eroded the spun nylon fuel tank and leaked fuel all over. New fuel tank in a couples weeks and was good to go. No complaints and a life long customer from that point forward.
I’d really like you to do a serious review on the new Tuareg, I respect your opinion as you really get the most out of a bike
Nice
Nice to see a review address the elephant in the room (reliability) and lay out the options. The track sensor is interesting, and good to see a manufacturer willing to stand over a bike that's been used as intended

@@billcarey9184 Here in Australia its a $4k difference (15% extra), so if you set up your suspension properly its not worth it. But if money isn't an issue you'd buy the Factory, but the base is more practical for me ie: rear bag & better wind protection. ie: See me ride my mates factory and I mention annoying wind blasts up the arm pits.

Isn't that what's for?
ducati are blessed that VW took over back in 2018/19 The electronics are sound , I get the impression that Aprilia could do with something similar. Is this true , theres a few videos stating this but it looks like folk from Texas , Florida , Arizona , South of Spain (Hot Climates). Nice Review , I'd like to have the RSV4 & the Superduke in my Garage
This is a bike I would love to ride or have
small chance U might react but i hope this reaches u.
7:03 spicy!
Is that a pillion torture device on the back?
Aprillia is Aprillia!

Thanks, there are a lot of them out there! Some people don't realise that riders like Chris have been doing this for years, he's ridden thousands of bikes, he's race in World Superstock so he knows his stuff. We've seen vlogger types drop bikes in front of us then go onto film reviews like nothing happened, they're very good a reading the spec sheets and that's it!
In a world where sports bikes generally look like chopped up transformer parts, it’s bikes like this that show how to do it.
Just been to view one this morning and cannot decided between this or Tuono- decisions decisions 🤷🏻♂️

Hey Robbo, can I ask where you went to view the RSV4 1100 Factory? I've been checking and from what I've found so far there's only a couple of dealers in the UK - assuming that's where you are located, of course... Any info much appreciated, cheers! (and good luck with the decision making...)
How would you compare it with the S1000RR? I have that one currently and will probably change bikes again next year.

I bought a brand new RSV4 in 2011. I rode of the dealer floor and it caught fire on my second day at 150 km. The dealer support was horrible and Aprilia refused a replacement . Dealer support was horrible.
Makes me wonder how long before these bikes come from the factory with 250hp 😳
