Reliability of Lexus has been going down. It is still probably the best in class, but nothing like the old LS400 or LS430.

It may not sound as great as a V8 but modern TT-V6 combined with a good 10-speed makes driving a real treat without the regrets. Do you think you will ever get an F150 with the 2.7 or maybe the new Ranger with the 2.3 with the 10-speed? I actually had an F150 as a loaner recently and was floored when I got ~27 MPG in local highway driving and ~23 MPG combined all while still being able to give it the beans on the merges. FWIW the configuration was XLT Sport in extended cab and 6.5' bed equipped with the 2.7 Ecoboost pushing 2WD through a 3:55 rear end. I am seriously curious about what you could on your test loop because I think the new product is amazing.

Is that 27.3 on the trip computer or do you have an external device? I know in my RX 450h, when the trip computer indicates 28 mpg, the calculation at the pump gives me 30 mpg.

Trip computer. I wish I had the time and resources to do multiple tank fills with each vehicle! There are always variations …

Isn't it also a choice to not buy a new luxury car and waste a lot of money? Wait three years and get one a lot cheaper.

The computer trip is not accurate, not on any cars. To figure out your average mpg, you need to divide your total miles by how many gallons you put in your tank.

Quite sad. I used to regularly get 32-35mpg out of my old stick shift 3.0L Nissan Maxima. Recently, i've been able to average about 33-34 doing 60mph in a 2.0L Toyota rav4. So, even older cars with much worse aerodynamics can beat this car. My guess is that the drivetrain is the dominant source of loss in this car.

Engines have more emission control systems and the cars are heavier to accommodate new safety requirements... these hurt mpg performance
