it is such a shame how Dire Straits were treated at the Ceremony. They couldn't even get someone to induct them. Who ever organized this year's ceremony should be fired or at least disciplined for their disrespectful actions. The only saving grace was that the Dire Straits members who did attend got their trophies earlier than the other inductees.

John Illsley did a broadcast with Knopfler about Knopfler’s iconic guitars, seemed like they were getting on just fine in that. I think it has to do more with Knoplfer’s disdain for the trappings of fame.

I could not agree more! It has been my all time favorite album since it was released! It is the ultimate in musical storytelling, you're correct. For decades, when friends would introduce me to new music, my response is always "Well, its no Making Movies, but it's OK, I guess." Lol! Not an exaggeration. I can't even estimate how many times I have listened to Making Movies.

I feel ashamed to say that I was never a fan of Dire Straits, and I am 64 now. Yes, I did hear Sultans of Swing, and a few of their hits on the radio over the years, but for some reason, I never took the time to get their albums and listen.Yet now, in 2021, I am totally blown away by their music, and they are already retired!!!!!! HOW COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED??? The other day I listened to a live video of Sultans of Swing, and I could hardly believe it. I listened to that video at least 5 times, and again the next day. I have not felt that much pure joy from a song since I heard "She Loves You" by the Beatles at 7 years old! How could I have missed this fabulous band? Is there so much music in the world now, that we miss some of the greats? Thank God for the videos and the records, at least I can catch up now. Thank God the music is timeless. To make matters worse, I am an accomplished singer/songwriter/guitar player! (not famous) This will change everything now!

Very interesting to read the musician's perspective about a concert that one has been to. I have formed a Dire Straits Tribute Band because of their music and the sheer musicianship construction of the songs . . . just brilliant.

Sultans of swing live 83-85 with a very long version with one of the most intense feeling-solo in music Telegraph road epic version in concert calling elvis with amazing impro in 1992 tunnel of love with an amazing guitar solo Dire straits rule ! Most of the times Mark reached the perfection all the best drummers played with this band: Omar Hakim, Pick Whiters, Terry Williams (the amazing), Jeff Porcaro rip and the fantastic Manu Katché when i heard a stupid french not so famous guy who laughed at some bands-artists who were not really rock for him i just say f ...off

For me now in my early 60's, Dire straits - in particular Mark Knopfler- came into my music experience in 1977-78 with their first album. Whilst there are many great guitarists about, few could match Knoplers timing and precision on the Strat. For me the timing etc was absolutely awesome. I wasnt overly enamored by all of DS/ MK stuff and though I have most of their work, I feel the early stuff was the best as the original band.

Wish Jon Bongiovi was asked to induct Dire Straits. In an interview about his opinion of the greatest guitar players, he opines, “I love Mark Knopfler. Completely different style guitar player, but all it is also goes back to their songwriting ability too because it’s integral to the whole thing.”

it is so pathetic that this audience had no great respect or admiration for this band, John Illsley had to tell them to stand up to show respect, and they were reluctant. I feel bad for John, but he had the guts to do that and I don't blame him. what a bunch of jerks these people in the audience are. Do you know who dire straits is in the Rock 'n roll music history ? something unprecedented and never something similar can show up again.
