    Awesome demonstration! Haven't encountered electric vvt yet but its good to know these things. Nothing better to do during a slow winter than mess around with the scope and learn some cool stuff! Thanks for posting!

    I use the consult 3 at the shop. I would think a modern scan tool should be able to do the learning procedure.

    @@CartersDiagnostics I own the Snap On Zeus it would not do it in the shop has a Alltel ultra. It had the function in there but I could not get it to work so I had to pay 165 to our remote programmer to get it done.

    @@CartersDiagnostics I subscribed if you ever can get your hands on a altel ultra and figure out how to do it with that tool would appreciate a video on it or with any aftermarket scan tool. Thanks in advance. Have a great night and happy Easter.

    Great video. Fascinating that at no advance command (home as you say), we are not at true 0* as we had with the hydraulic vtc system on the older R52 vq35 engine. The sprocket would bottom out at 0* and could not physically allow negative position. This system is indicating a slight retard position. I am very interested on the true cold start readings as the ECM would hold 10* advance until engine temp reached 141* F on the hydraulic system via the sprocket lock pin/ solenoid command. I am going to throw the Pico on a pathfinder when I get a chance to see if we still do it on this system. You have inspired me.

    Awsome on the inspiration! I think I have a video on a Rouge 2.5 with a sticky Intermediate lock solenoid holding the cam advanced longer than expected. I also need to test the new system, if I find something juicy I'll video it. If you catch something before me send me a file or a screen shot. Thanks for commenting 🤘.

    So if they were equipped with this in 2017 and you're getting known goods at the dealer in 2024, I would say it's pretty reliable. Oil controlled VVT was giving us problems within a year of introduction.

    So far so good. The failure i see the most is lack of maintenance. I also hear about sprocket failure?? I'm not sure how people are determinening sprocket failure though.

    I just ran into an issue on a 2017 infinity q60. Both intake camshafts set performance codes. Service information was lacking and customer didn’t want to leave the vehicle for me to solve the issue. Data PIDs were poor even with Consult.

  • @CartersDiagnostics

    Agreed the data is terrible. I would like to at least see a desired vs actual pid and maybe a current draw pid.

    @@CartersDiagnostics that is exactly what I was looking for. I was able to get the codes to set around 2300 rpm with 30-40% load after accelerating onto the highway. I couldn’t tell if I was over advanced or retarded. Scope didn’t come out yet and never did since the customer was impatient.

    I was expecting more of a sine wave for 3 phase ac voltage. Interesting! And the last Pathfinder I saw had a longitudinal engine.. what's this transverse junk about lol. Are pathfinders no longer trucks?

    I think one of these has gone bad in my 2019.... is it possible for this part to have a cold start rattle?

  • @CartersDiagnostics

    @CartersDiagnostics

    I would think the timing chain or the high pressure fuel pump plunger would create a rattle, before the electric vvt motor.

    @CartersDiagnostics I had a 30-year retired Nissan mechanic tell me the timing chain wasn't the issue.... he left Nissan before this part was added to the V6 engines, so he couldn't really tell me about it. I was thinking the ball bearings may have gone bad in it. Thanks for the info. Great channel!!

    Bank 2 is the front. Closest to the radiator.
