2016 Subaru Levorg GTS Spec.B Review | CarAdvice

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Levorg. It might be a funny name but Subais fundamentally the same underneath as the current fourth-generation WRX.
Powered by an identical 197kW / 350Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre boxer, the Levorg suffers a 50-kilogram weight penalty over the sedan, thanks to the extra bodywork at the back. The car is almost 10cm longer, despite having the same wheelbase and front-end.
It looks good. The bum might be a bit big, but from a form sense - Levorg looks the part.

I bought a Spec-B Levorg at the beginning of 2019 and have really enjoyed it since. A professional tune certainly wakes the car up and makes it more responsive, but you can't push too much power before putting the CVT at risk. For anyone considering buying one of these, put some money aside for a wider set of wheels. I purchased a set of 2016 STI wheels (8.5" wide) and it makes the car feel like it's on rails and fills the guards our perfectly

I really like this guy, no BS to be said about it being automatic. Really appreciate that he can look at the car and see there is a market for practical vehicles with a bit of "fun" attached.

The Forester and Crosstrek might be hot sellers in the U.S. but they still won't appeal to someone seeking something more sporty yet practical. Ever since the demise of the WRX hatch there has been a voild. I've read countless comments of faithful WRX hatch owners saying that they would not buy anything else Subaru that is not a Turbo hatch. So unless the Crosstrek is made available with the WRX's turbo engine they are going to loose those sales to say a Ford Focus ST, RS or Golf GTI, R.

I've spoken to a lot of Subaru owners that have said the same, but after buying a 2016 WRX as my first Subaru, I am happy with my purchase. However, if the Levorg was in the showroom in the states, I'd trade immediately.

I actually own a CVT and have run across a lot of others that have as well. Granted a manual is definitely for purists, but if you find you have physical limitations like RA (raises hand), a prosthesis, etc. you can still be a WRX owner. Just word to the wise, keep it in S mode, I does make it feel like a Toyota.

It should be quite easy to do. Grabbing version without eye sight and having a donor Crosstrek or WRX. Since all 3 share same exact platform, core chasis parts, internals and interior. Its just a bit costly atm. Something for the time when these go down in price drasticly which will happen soon in 5-7 years when they will reach lowest prices

good video and good review! I think they are more trying, as you said, to target the older generation who grew up with the old bug eyes and even the 22b wrx's. as for the lockout on the nav, that's a pretty standard feature on new cars nowadays due to laws around using gp's and phones while driving. I currently drive a 2011 Forester XT and would honestly consider buying one of these if I had and could justify the money. Keep up the good work!

Also. You don't buy a legacy to race and have tons of fun. Remember the legacy. It was a very brave and sturdy car. A sporty touch, maybe, but it was in first place a family and utility car. Without a doubt, it was aiming for farmers, families and older peoples, wanting something reliable and sturdy that drives ; whatever the conditions would have been. And its, in my opinion, always the case. The levorg stays exatly wha the Legacy has been. It just bring it in the next generation.

I could see SoA (Subaru of America) selling about 5k of these per year IF they offered it here. I for one would be an owner (w/ 6 spd manual), but alas, I have to go with the sedan. :( As long as they don't do what Honda/Acura did with the 2011 TSX wagon and offer it w/one engine and one (poopy) automatic and NO advertising support, the WRX Wagon would do great in the US (PNW, Snowbelt, and NE) AND Canada too. As long as SoA kept sales numbers in perspective, I could see limited numbers of these things sell out year after year. Can you imagine and STi version - that would be bonkers; haul stuff and haul asss at the same time. Take that Audi S4/S6 Avant.

    1. The GG/GH/GR WRX 5 door of previous gen is really more like a hatchback instead of a true "wagon". But most people mistakenly categorize it as a wagon. 2. The Levorg is NOT the successor to the WRX 5 door. It is the wagon version of the Legacy/Liberty sedan. You said it yourself in the video. The Levorg name stands for Legacy Revolution Touring. 3. The model you tested is the Spec.B, the sportiest version. Of course the ride would feel firmer. And the road noise you hear is most likely attirbuted to sportier tires and slightly different suspension parts such as bushings. 4. Please do not close the trunk like that. You'll more likely leave unsightly prints or even scratch the paint. This is why there is a dipped opening on the right side for you to place your fingers in. It's just a personal pet peeve of mine though lol 5. Subaru has made this latest Legacy wagon too tame in hopes of selling more units. Anyway CVT is undesirable in general and the lack of a MT option = fail

I dont understand why they brand it as a sports wagon. If they're trying to target a different audience (a more matute age group) with the CVT, then they have the Subaru forester for that purpose. Sportswagon without the manual option? Ask any buyer here. Subaru's marketing team has failed here. The Levorg has been on sale for about a month or so now and I have not seen a single one on the road at all.

No Liberty wagon any more - plus there is more boot space in the Levorg than the old Liberty. However, Outback is selling its socks off, so perhaps the crossover flexibility is more in tune with buyer's tastes now.

Subaru is turning into Toyota. Used to make awesome fun sporty raw cars. Now is shifting into all lame to drive cars. Luckily Mazda is getting the spirit of driving right in all their cars. I hope they make an AWD Speed 3 hatch and an AWD speed 6 sedan and/or wagon.

It is possible if you get a donor WRX. Everything is bolt on so you just need to carry over couple things lile ecu, drivetrain shifter elements and it will fit perfectly. Its same wheelbase just with a longer butt.

+Phillip Master That's funny. I currently own a 2010 Outback. Would enjoy the smaller size and performance of the Levorg tho. Also, if that is the case, why do they sell the Impreza or WRX sedan and Legacy here? Both sedans...

Haha I was mocking SOA and their marketing strategy. Yeah I've driven your model of Outback. It's pretty comfortable as a daily driver and nice overall but can feel a bit too big for those of us who are more used to the "classic" Subaru design. And the serious lack of power is painfully obvious. The current gen Legacy has been transformed to be marketed as a Camry/Accord competitor unfortunately (read no turbo). I think Subaru is hoping with the current gen VA WRX alone can be the sole vehicle that'll carry on their sport/racing heritage which I think is a mistake. Have you seen photos of the next gen '17 Impreza? They're really going in the boring direction for the sake of selling more cars in my opinion.

Your entire comment is correct! I saw the new Impreza at the NY Auto Show when it debuted. It was interesting, didn't hate it, but definitely didn't love it. I think they still have the quirky Subaru vibe, which we all love, but not nearly as noticeable. I just want a solid wagon, that I can tune/mod, with all the latest gizmos and gadgets without breaking the bank. That's why I like the Levorg (needs Android Auto...). haha.

I'm not active in the owner's forums anymore but I vaguely recall seeing a thread about someone ambitious buying the current gen USDM Outback and in the process of trying to retrofit it to be a Levorg...FA turbo motor and all. If SOA changes their mind and offerers the Levorg in turbo form & MT option for North America I would seriously consider getting one but for now I'm so glad I still have my 4th gen BP. It's everything I want in a DD. I can't imagine getting rid of it even if I pick up another car lol

The VW Golf R wagon have all the Levorg gear and more, while being slightly more expensive than a top tier Levorg. Subaru should rethink who their audience is as many families want more than just some CVT with a quitened down engine.

+patrick balagtas The reliabilty thing depends on the engine and how it is used. A WRX is known to have certain failures, VW are known to have other failures on their engines or other components. I've seen how long some subie engines last (brother owned one and thrashed the crap out of it) and failures was everything I heard and saw of it. His car had 3 different engines in it :/ If taken care it wouldn't surprise me if lasts longer than the shell. Vws are the same, with one (Mark II golf) is known to run to the ends of time. Subarus are cool, but VWs have the German touch that makes you feel special.
