I've never doubted Subaru's AWD capability. After all, my friend's Forester got us out of a VERY sticky situation one time in deep snow. However, i will say this until i'm in the ground and this goes for ALL VEHICLES. If you pair the RIGHT TIRES with the AWD you can go just about anywhere folks. But if you have balding or just not the proper treads for the conditions you want to get through. Any car would struggle PERIOD...!!!

tinker1148 its VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) and it doesn’t provide more power, it just disables part of the traction control system and allows maximum power to all four wheels at all times, instead of shifting power to the wheels that have traction

Great video of showing the different types of modes being used. Looks like VDC and X-mode off, seemed to work better then VDC off and X-mode on.

The car did really well on vdc and xmode off and then xmode on and vdc off . It would've made it up easy on any mode combo with momentum ,but this was a very good hard test by going really slow and it did well with the right combo ,foresters are great for these situations in it's small SUV class.

This wasn't a test of tyres or driver, it was a test of VDC and X Mode. Nicely done.

I have an Outback, and, according to the UK handbook from Subaru, VDC stands for 'Vehicle Dynamics Control' and not "Vehicle Descent Control" as you suggest, (don't forget to put the 's' in 'descent'). It's purpose is to prevent the wheels from slipping when on slippery surfaces. It recommends that it is turned off when stuck in mud or on snow or travelling on either surface. H.D.C. or Hill Descent Control is something completely different from VDC and should not be confused as one and the same.

+1 Dennis, I was thinking the same exact thing! I think it also says in the manual that the Vehicle Dynamics Control modulates the throttle, and should probably be turned off in situations like this.

As everybody else has pointed out, it needs better tires. VDC off, X-mode on seems to be the way to go.

What is he doing with the throttle, stop-start all the time and not letting X-Mode do it's thing?

滑りやすい路面状況やタイヤが浮く場所はハンドル右下にあるトラクションコントロール(VDC)をoffする事をスバルも説明書に書いて推奨しています。VDCをoffにすれば、タイヤが浮いて空転したらスバルのブレーキLSDが素早くブレーキを掛けて空転を止め接地タイヤにトルクを送ります。

あとX-MODEはヒルディセント(下りのブレーキ制御システム)ですので、同じく滑りやすい登り坂はoffにしましょう。VDCと共にoffにする事で本来のスバルAWDの実力が発揮されます。

We should stop being so judgemental. This video does a decent job at showing how the Subaru AWD system works. For muddy conditions, VCD OFF is better. It doesn't totally disable VCD but tames it, preventing power cutoff and momentum carry through when wheels slip; the ECU is sensing wheel slip and cutting power. Using X-mode exaggerates VCD sensitivity, thus cutting power/transferring power laterally more quickly. This is worse for a muddy situation, but great when "rock crawling". It's not the car that sucks most times, it's those of us who don't know how to use it

ako tak sledujem .. najidealnejsie je vypnut vdc a a len ist ? pripadne zapnut x mod? .. v testo boli zimne gumy? .. chcem sa poradit ako v takom blate jazdit.. ovplivni v takomto blate aj vykon auta jazdu ? ja mam 110kw. werziu a vsade sa testuju silnejsie...a este posledna otazka je lepsie davat plynu menej ?

по такой дороге только все отключать и включать на ручной режим 1 скорость и тапка в пол:) никакой x-mode не нужен:)

Пришлось спускаться в машину. думал что кнопка x mode сразу выключает vdc. Ошибался. По опыту достаточно выключить vdc и этого везде достаточно.

Есть реальный минус у этого полного привода. Едешь вперёд если начал буксовать-зарываться в снегу или песке то считай что сел мертво. Назад машина если и выберется то случайно. Включаешь заднюю перед начинает зарываться а зад толком не тянет ещё, перед зарылся и зад только включается - ну и как следствие сидишь на брюхе...

ну в этом уже виноват вариатор, так как электроника его бережет, поэтому если перед колесами препятствие и сложно прокрутить колеса, то электроника в любом случае будет душить обороты. Привод тут конечно, если сравнивать с конкурентами, просто супер настроен! Прет действительно зачетно, вот только вариатор, а точнее цепь и конусы, при частых нагрузках долго не протянут, даже несмотря на огромный масляный картер.

X-MODE не позволяет блокироваться гидротрансформатору до 40 км/ч, спасая конусы и цепь. Если нет уверенности, что преодолевая препятствие не разгонишься (раскрутишь колёса на льду в гору) более 40 км/ч - лучше не включать X-MODE, т.к. блокировка происходит очень резко, пинок, а соответственно и нагрузки перехода с плавной передачи момента ч/з масло на подключение "железа" ощутимы. В этом случае гробится вариатор "принудительно" .

Haha! The driver is not bad... the aim of the video is not how to drive the car, it's how the traction works in different mods. He drives perfectly to demonstrate it. Of course he could of floored it using a front wheel drive car, but then again would he be a good drive by your standards?

Hit it hard pansy!!!! Hit the throttle and stay on it! It’s an off road vehicle man!!! Not an asphalt queen! I have the same car plus in manual instead of automatic, and that’s where the power is at!!! On a side note to the rant, people start learning how to drive stick again!!!!!! Manual transmissions are disappearing from people not willing to learn. It’s more fun! You get all the power you want when you want it!

Знаю, что Субару что-то изменила в машине 2016-го года, насколько сильно были изменения в ходовой и работе привода?

У нового Форестера в передней подвеске увеличили жесткость передних рычагов, кронштейнов крепления стабилизатора и заменили втулки на более прочные. В задней заменили шаровые на сайлент-блоки и поставили подрамник по-мощнее.

А так еще появились всякие ассистенты - слепые зоны, слежение за разметкой. Еще камера переднего и бокового обзора, а также функция обнаружения препятствия при движении задним ходом. По технике особо изменений нет.

я как то засел в такой сугроб. Рыл, копал лопатой. Но бампер упирался в снег. Потом плюнул, отключил хмод, все отключил, сел и дал подсраку форестеру. Как думаете, что получилось? ВЫЛЕЗ!

Pokud má systém nějak fungovat, nemůžete mu do toho neustále kecat tím, že se rozjíždíte a sotva zabere, tak uberete a tím příjdete jak o pohybový moment, tak o trakci. Pak systém neví co máte v úmyslu a nefunguje jak má.

All those Subaru owners need to chill the fuck out. He isn't just offroading for fun. He's testing the AWD, VDC, and X-mode. It's a demonstration of the car's ability, not the driver's. Otherwise why bother buying a 4x4 with these special features?

Kinda shows that the driver is not very experienced when driving on icy roads, hills. You do not go full throttle. you go slow and try to avoid going into wet ice pre-made tracks. And create new tracks by going with the other tire in the middle of the 2 tracks and create new ones. To avoid the wet ice as much as possible, especially when on not that great tires.

Hmmm...as everyone has an opinion...TIRES on my 2012 were GEOLANDERS or some sort of thing...I SWITCHED in winter to PIRELLI SCORPIONS WINTER(?also they have an ice version and a simple all around m+s standard tire, I use for Summer...) big difference...low gears, constant level of gas would help...but mud requires tires so noisy on asphalt, that no one would buy them, so mud and mud on a hill going up is a tough combo...I never trusted my Subaru with the factory tires, they were quiet but not confidence inspiring, the Pirellis are just plain bad ass...

why try that with standard road tyres, you need knobby mud tyres.

As per Subaru and other and auto makers, traction control VDC should only be turned off if going up steep upgrade as the VDC will give you much more power. VDC off along with x-mode on and proper tires will give the best advantage!!! Other than that the VDC should always be on!!!

und dann gebt dem Auto noch ein paar ordentliche Reifen ala General Grabber AT 2 oder seit kürzerem AT 3 und dann geht's auch vorwärts . Fahre seit 6 Jahren Forester 2.0 mit AT -Reifen ---- ist schon ein Unterschied.

Driver aside. This model sub does find a way to break traction more than any other AWD I've owned. While it's cheap and great fun, it is just a little bit shit for some reason. I have an XT, it's fun on road, rubbish off-road.

Anyone saying he needs to stop letting off the gas or needs better tires either never drove one of these or is missing the point of the video. The car is cutting power not the driver. And during the entire duration of the clime there is always two tires with traction however it just shows no matter how good you think your awd is it’s never as good as you think it is.

Turn off the music , people don't want to listen to music on car videos they want to hear how the engine revs when its sending power to the wheels, and the wheels trying to find some grip.

At our glance, pressing the gas pedal is normal, if less then there is not enough dynamics. On the mechanical box was more convenient

A Subaru with a manual gearbox would of tackled that obstacle without a sweat. I believe Subaru's lost some of their capabilities when they went with the CVT.

У меня ДЭУ Нексия есть. Жёсткость кузова???? А она там есть??? Я когда машину поддомкрачиваю(одно колесо переднее), всё... Её перекашивает. Двери когда закрываешь, то замок бьётся уже.

Why would you need to, or want to, make a mockery of a world renown car maker i.e. Subaru. They have been making 4x4 cars with ability & agility to negotiate such slopes as your video shows, in it's sleep. Please stop making such video's if you can't (clearly) control the throttle. And yes, I own a 3rd generation model forester, & have driven off road in similar circumstances. Serious!! please don't say I was conducting a X-Mode and VDC tests.
