2016 Skoda Superb Wagon Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Czech carmaker Skoda is generally regarded at one of Volkswagen’s cut-price brands, but just one glance at the latest Skoda Superb wagon turns that notion on its head.
The Superb is a ludicrously large family wagon that also offers an exhaustive list of features and creature comforts, a four-cylinder turbo engine from one of the world’s most celebrated hot hatches, while looking genuinely sporty from any angle.
It’s a tough ask for any manufacturer, even prestige brands and to do so means Skoda has, what I consider, a best-in-class effort on its hands.
If you thought our 206TSI wagon looked big on the outside, cabin and boot space will leave you gobsmacked. The previous generation was hardly lacking in this department, but this latest iteration is bigger in almost every dimension. Rear-seat legroom boarders on limo spec, while boot space grows by 60 litres to an impressive 660 for the wagon (625 for the sedan).
Folding the rear seats frees up a staggering 1950 litres of load space in the wagon and 1760 litres for the sedan. Either way, this is considerably more space than the current Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon (1625 litres) and still more than you’ll find in many large SUVs.
And as we’ve come to expect from this brand, the Superb comes loaded with everything but the kitchen sink. It’s just one of several areas where this car continues to offer outstanding bang for buck.
It’s simply impossible to list every standard feature on the Superb -the list is far too extensive, but highlights include 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels shod with premium Pirelli rubber; heated front seats; privacy glass; 8.0-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which automatically connects with your iPhone in mere seconds, once you connect the Lightning cable.
You also get a high-definition reversing camera with front and rear parking sensors; adaptive cruise control; three-zone climate control; nine airbags and conveniently-stored umbrellas hidden inside both front doors - just like a Rolls-Royce.
Our 206TSI was also fitted with the $3400 Tech Pack, which adds a full suite of active safety aids and convenience features such as Automatic parking assist; Lane assist; Side assist - Blind spot detection, Rear traffic alert, Traffic jam assist; Emergency assist, Adaptive chassis control, Virtual hands-free tailgate and 12-speaker Canton sound system.
It’s an awful lot of kit, but the top-shelf Superb also includes the Image Pack as part of its standard inventory, which incorporates keyless entry and start; ambient lighting (dash and all four doors); drive mode selection with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and sports suspension, which lowers the ride height by 15mm - for a noticeably sportier stance than its less powerful siblings.
Despite the de-tuning and significant extra heft of the Skoda over its Golf R engine donor (1685kg versus 1495kg respectively) the Superb wagon can still cover off the 0-100km/h dash in just 5.8 seconds - 1.4 seconds faster than the $46,490 Golf GTI Performance with DSG. Top speed is 250km/h.
Trying to find real fault with the latest Skoda Superb 206 TSI 4x4 DSG Wagon is tantamount to nitpickicking.
It’s a large, stylish estate with as much rear legroom as a prestige limousine and even more cargo space. The list of features and creature comforts on board is exhaustive, while under the bonnet is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine from one of the world’s most celebrated hot hatches.

I have the 2013 Superb wagon and it's, well...superb. Pricey to maintain though and some electrical gremlins from time to time but none of them deal-breakers. I purchased it new with a 3-4 year expectation and sorry to say it, I won't be stumping up for the new one for one very simple reason. I love the one I have. Highly recommended.

Saw one of these cars for the first time, parked outside my house today. A real eye catcher. I have a 2016 Subaru Outback (love) but if I were in the market, I'd be eyeballing the 206 wagon. If they were under 50k (drive away), I'd be tempted to go car shopping.

It shares the same modular platform (assembled differently thats why it is called modular) and engine manufacturer as Passat and all concern cars. It isn't uncommon even for cars with completely different manufacturers from 2 different continents to share a platform and a same engine manufacturer.

Holden commodore SS V wagon 6 speed manual is the ultimate D4D W460N with ample boot space and size not to mention power and a roaring engine RIP Too bad clutch shifting will soon be extinct and replaced with tiptronic 🤦🏽‍♂️ The future is becoming more and more computerised with technology evolving continuously where soon we will rely on a computer to drive our cars rather than ourselves. Me personally I don't trust any one let alone a computer to drive for me.

Dipra Bhattacharjee my little old Honda isn't that slow, more like 2 seconds slower to 100 than the Skoda :) I agree that the 2.0TSI will provide more performance and fun in daily driving and yes I wouldn't mind paying for the extra fuel useage, but with this whole concept of downsizing, I would have expected better fuel economy.

I have the diesel and return 20klm/ liter at 110km /hour. It continues to surprise me and the badge snobs who get a reminder that they paid too much. . Skoda - simply astounding. Ah yes, "apparently" I have no experience with every Skoda in existence despite the fact that I live in the Czech Republic. Perhaps it is you whose only experience is what they get from Skoda's marketing and reviews with barely any critique like this one? It certainly sounds like it. If I wanted to buy a cheaply built large family car, I'd go for Avensis, because while the interior fells just as cheap, it's ACTUALLY solidly built and probably won't start rattling in 2-3 years, not to mention the car is infinitely more reliable than anything VAG can come up with (largely due to the fact that is has almost nothing in it, but that's another thing). If I wanted a comfy large family car that doesn't feel as cheap as Superb or Avensis, I'd go for Citroen C5. But sure, if your only criteria is "perceived value for money when the car is new and has no options in it" and/or "space", Superb is probably the best bet (if you keep telling yourself (or don't mind) that Skoda isn't the corner-cut brand of VAG).
