    After successfully completing my Sportage brake job following your video step by step, I had to come back and thank you for an OUTSTANDING job on this tutorial! Excellent lighting and camera work, detailed information, and best of all you're TEACHING us why and how, it is just phenomenal work and you're saving us hundreds of dollars while teaching us at the same time! If you ever come to south Louisiana I'm buying you a beer, my brother!🍻

    You literally just saved us about $350. The dealer wanted $600 for a front rotor and brake pad job on my wifes 2017 Kia Sportage. I watched your video, purchased all supplies that you recommended...and going slowly and methodically had it done within an hour (2nd side took about 15 minutes). So thanks to you I did it for about $250. Much appreciated!

    Great job. And it looks like Koreans did a great job designing the brake system, now if they could just keep them from catching on fire...As an update, I just put E-Line cross drilled/slotted rotors on my 2017 Sportage and has to put a light coat of grease on the shims (?) as the pads were still tight and didn't move well. Also, I had 2 screws holding the rotor on to tight for hand turning, my #3 screwdriver had a wrench adapter right at the handle, so I put on wrench on it, while pushing hard on the screw driver I rotated it with a wrench and both broke free. I put teflon tape on every screw and bolt.

    @@themechanic6117 Currently the 2 different fires are, 1) Bad mechanics who replace the engine under a recall don't properly tighten the fuel line, and 2) the ABS braking module in the 1.6L, 2.0L, and 2.4L with GDI aparently catch fire at anytime, while parked and/or driving. There's a recall for a new fuse box and a rated fuse at 25A. Some newer models already have the fuse box, but with at 40A fuse, so there's recalls for those also.

    The impact screwdriver is a good example of a tool that is not used very often, but when you need it, it becomes priceless. I just wanted to add that my new slider brackets may have been a bit tight due to a slight downward bend on the top, I probably should have opened them up a bit. Basically, your pads should be somewhat free moving towards or away from the rotor once in place, Or premature wear of pads and hot spots on the rotor. I used Eline crossdrilled and slotted rotors which have a zinc coating, thus no oil on the rotor...

  • @themechanic6117

    @themechanic6117

    4 жыл бұрын

    The screws make it easier to install the caliper because the rotor is being held by the screws. Besides that they aren't really needed. I like to put the screws back if theyre in good shape. Openings the bleeder just causes more work for you.theres no need to open a bleeder when doing brakes even on cars with ABS. Theres nothing wrong with pushing the fluid back into the resevoir. The torque adapter can be found on ebay or Amazon 👍

    Wow..a real mechanic turning the car on just to turn the wheels while lifted!!!? Plus, pushing the piston forcefully when you can use this perfect opportunity to bleed them while pushing the piston!? Not putting anti-seize on the face of the rotor means you are either lazy or ignorant (do not freaking complain when the wheel is seized on the rotor cause some other expert skipped that step!!).

  • @themechanic6117

    @themechanic6117

    4 жыл бұрын

    Something wrong with that?only one wheel was off the ground. Why wouldn't you start the car to turn the wheel? Bleed the brakes? Theres no need for that. Cry all you want about opening the bleed valve to press in the piston, there's nothing wrong with the way I do it. Do you think shops bleed brakes every time they change pads or rotors? 😂 Who's complaining about a seized wheel? I sure wasnt, and theres no need to put antiseize on the face of the rotor. This car isnt old. Not even from factory do they come with grease on them. It sounds like you're nit picking and I'm not sure why. Apparently you know more than I do... 👍
