Lol. I think the person doing the commentary is actually watching something else on tv and smoking a cigarette, and every once in a while, she looks up and is like, “oh, a nice jump!” or “good stuff there!”

gojewla - She's the one that ends most of her comments with "there." I though British commentators for gymnastic events couldn't live without five or six hundred "reallys" per two-hour event. :)

At least the American commentators tell it like it is. Whether bad or good, they talk about it all, no matter what country the gymnast is from. They usually have background info and make it a lot more interesting. They also know their terms.

(Mrs. S. here) What is most gratifying, and especially appreciated, is that the Japanese girls were first in line to congratulate our girls! It was very obvious to see that they were genuinely pleased for them. Japan's athletes have always shown their support, their friendliness, and their appreciation for ours. On a couple of occasions in the past, where they participated in the competitions, and the camera panned in their direction, they visibly showed their support, their smiles, and their cheers for our girls' performances. I hope that our fans can show the same joy and support for them as well.

It’s the entire UK that loves a countdown and regarding being dark it’s only the audience area that’s dark. I’ve been there a few times to see gymnastics events and it’s like going to a concert or musical where all lights are on the stage makes for a great atmosphere plus I think less distracting as they sell time slots for these big events so there’s a lot of coming and going

I appreciate that with this broadcast, they show all the girls from all the countries competing. They don’t highlight the star athletes only and ignore the other girls. I like to see all the girls from all the countries and not just a highlight reel of the best moments from the best athletes like NBC does. Some people may get bored watching all the athletes but I don’t. These athletes have worked hard and they deserve our attention, whether they be reigning world champions and from the reigning Olympic gold medalist team or they come in last place!

This was such a great team final. So glad we'll be seeing the Netherlands again...they're like little ballerinas out there. SOOOO beautiful to watch and they're so expressive! China got it together for finals and competed well. Super happy for Great Britain...their reaction to getting on the podium was priceless (besides being historic). And Team USA was beyond words. Maggie Nichols did herself a HUGE solid. Her attitude/difficulty/consistency are world class. Couldn't be prouder to be represented by such an awesome and talented group of young women. They're gonna be a force to be reckoned with in Rio. All hail the new era of American gymnastics lol

Things went well indeed. Netherlands made team final and came home with the GOLD on beam (kudos to Sanne Wevers!!). Maggie unfortunately didn’t make the Olympic team due to injuries and… well let’s just say other circumstances 😡. USA blew everyone away in team, AA finals and medaled everywhere they went! Russia came through when it mattered and snuck in for an unexpected silver over China (although it didn’t surprise me personally).

Exactly! I loved watching our girls give a dominant performance in team finals in Rio, of course knowing Simone would likely take AA gold but not knowing who the other medalists would be- hats off to Aliya for a second AA bronze after all her challenges. I was most thrilled though when Sanne won beam- such a glorious and historic achievement. The joy on Simone’s face during the medal ceremony as Sanne beheld her medal was sweet.

I like to rewatch these from time to time. Thanks for putting them up for us to enjoy over and over. Obviously the British are well known for their stellar bar work; i was blown away by Becky Downie here. Her legs were glued together! They didnt come apart at all on elements that usually cause the gymnast to separate just slightly; i.e--the shaps, thr pak. What made that even more impressive was stalders preceded those moves that usually cause the minor leg separations. Not Becky. That routine was impressive. Hoping she is able to continue gymnastics w/all these injuries that have plagued her recently. :(

And apparently you missed the part where they were absolutely ecstatic about GB grabbing bronze, when Aliya won her two bars golds- especially the first after all her challengers, after Sanne won gold, after Larissa Iordache got bronze here after her struggles. They are to the point, straightforward and concise. Often, when they say “could be better,” they are RIGHT. Many medals have been lost because someone was good but could be better.

Their execution is so low because many of their combos on floor are to hide landing deductions. It's clear when the gymnast supposedly completes a 2.5 to immediate punch front and still ends up way off to the side they never landed it all the easy around. The judges see it. I think they could up their E scores by cleaning up those landings and much heavier strength training than whatever they are doing now!

shang chunsong's floor routine (it's at 1:33:48 and it got a 14.366) could've scored in the 15's if she cleans up her final pass. she definitely lost at least -0.6 for the landing errors (low chest, steps back, out of bound). i wish they would focus on building her strength and conditioning in training - it seems she's consistently struggling during the last pass to get her double pike fully rotated and up-and-around. that's what gives USA the advantage on floor/vault and unfortunately the jokes/accusations about steroid usage - these athletes, from a young age, are trained to do very intense of strength exercises (like rope climbs)
