Oh boy, there's nothing I love more than watching select gymnasts breath and/or drink water while they wait for scores on the sidelines! It's not like anything else is going on, right? XD

They seem to do this exact same pattern with all individually scored performances (not teams sports like soccer or volleyball obviously!) I know i get super frustrated when i even CAN FIND coverage of Elite level Equesrian 3 Day or Olympic competitions around the world... and theres usually between 60-100 riders but theyll focus more on the "big names" during their warm ups or talking to their coach after leavint the arena, following them all the way out filming them hugging their horse & family etc... totally ignoring the 4TH PLACE RIDER whos now having THEIR round but since they aren't as big of an international NAME yet, they wont get coverage over riders who finish BEHIND them even. Its so frustrating!!!

Her depth of knowledge and positivity is amazing and she has a way of working WITH her fellow commentators that complements them (even TD). I learn something every time I hear her. aww, that was nice of Aly to thank the little girl who yelled out to her. when the post-olympic tour came to DC we paid to get front-row seats, which also included an autograph session after the show. with the exception of Nastia, ALL of the girls were SO NICE! McKayla took a picture with me making her "not impressed" face, Alicia posed for a picture with me and was the SWEETEST person you'd ever hope to meet and even took the time to chat with me for a minute or two, Aly saw a sign i made and gave me a thumbs up during the show, and Gabby was very kind as well. like i said, Nastia wasn't very nice - not sure if she was just having a bad day or if she's always like that, but she seemed like she would rather be anywhere but signing autographs for 200 people. which i can kind of understand, but i'm sure she was paid a lot of money to be part of that tour, and if she didn't want to do it she shouldn't have signed up. the tour is for the fans, and when you pay extra for a session after the show, you should be treated well. anyway, with that one exception, the experience was BY FAR one of the best of my 29 years so far! we went to the post-1996 olympics tour, but either they didn't offer an upgrade or we didn't know about it so we didn't get the interaction we got with this one. if your city offers it, you should go to the tour after these next olympics and pay the price for the upgrade - you have a COMPLETELY different experience! you won't be sorry!

I was pleasantly surprised to see how good Nichols looks! She is in some of the best shape I've ever seen her in! If she keeps it up she will have a place not only on the worlds team, but on the olympic as well! Also, great to see Ally and Gabby back. Gabby was rock solid, looked almost more confident than she did in london (didn't think it was possible). And Ally has even more difficulty than she had in London, and as long as she cleans up her execution she will be a force and challenge for Biles to overtake on beam and floor! Cant wait to see how the next year plays out leading up to the games :) So much excitement and potential in the USA team

I'm not going to lie but I really like Maggie Nichols. Honestly I prefer her over MyKayla Skinner because she has a little more clean routines. MyKayla has the power but the execution is lacking. I'm really excited and Nervous for Gabby, Aly & Kyla. Would love to see on or all of them be the first since 2000 to return to an Olympic Games but the Competition here in the US is soo strong and they have soo many up and coming girls clawing at their heels that it will be exciting & nerve racking to watch Olympic Trials next year

I'm sorry but a 9.2 for E score on Raisman's vault...? Knees bent, crooked and landed off to the side, then steped to the side. Was I watching the same thing as the judges? Seems like they're overscoring the returning Olympians.

  • @mbm759

0.1 for bent elbows, 0.1 for bent knees, 0.1 for step, 0.1 for crooked step, 0.1 for out of bounds. I just listed more than you did, and yet I came up with only 0.5. So she still got an extra 0.3 taken off. So technically, she was underscored.

Nicole Robertson I think they are overscoring to be nice since this is their first comeback. I get the feeling though as the competitions go on, they are not going to get these high scores. I am ready to see the world championships because there the scoring will be a dose of reality for the girls. i love simone and think she is really great and i know people have been praising gabby for coming in second behind simone but the test is like i said will be at worlds when aly and gabby have to not only compete against their teammates but the rest of the world. be interesting to see. but i think the usa team will be looking good for worlds and rio. whoever they pick

azaefe Aly will definitely be on that Worlds team and almost certainly the Olympic team as long as she stays healthy. They need her beam, floor, and vault. I want her to take the second all-around spot, but the competition will be tight. The Worlds team will likely be Simone, Aly, Gabby, Bailie, Maggie, and Kyla. They really don't need any specialists on this team.

The fall was unfortunate, but Ally's floor routine is otherwise amazing. Great tumbling and strong gymnastics all-around. Her and Gabby Douglas surprised me. I didn't expect either of them to do as well as they did. But Simone Biles is so far ahead of the rest of the world right now in difficulty and consistency, unless she becomes injured in the next year, she can't be beaten. I hope all three of them make the Olympic team in Rio. The US will be unstoppable! Go USA

I really wish they would change the gymnastics to include like the every girl gymnastics like a cartwheel or a back handspringer or one arm back strap has been or die roll something that we can all relate to I mean no one is the gymnast you know or trying to emulate these great gymnasts but they're not doing double backs and on the floor team they're running around jumping and doing these jumps where I want to see like you know a back handspring or a full twisting back handspring or something that the everyday girl can do and put into her floor routine so I think they should have a category where they have to do for everyday girl items or like a scale or I'm just not impressed by how the f i g is regulating the gymnastics these days

+Leland Tilden Right?! Haven't seen it done that well since Carly nailed it in the AA at the 2004 games. Carly did it from a back handspring, of course. Is it considered a Patterson if you do it from a round-off? It doesn't matter, really, I'm just curious. Aly does it extremely well. Just beautiful!

It is terribly unfortunate how you have turned a sporting event into a sensational journalistic endeavor. What about all of those other great athletes you didn't bother to show because you were too concerned by looking at athletes who weren't competing or having us stare at the Chicago skyline? It's great that Gabby and Aly are back, but everyone deserves to be seen and appreciated.

These days the music is just mashups of different songs and it sounds awful. My opinion you don't look too artistic with the floor music that lots of these gymnasts are using

I'm counting down the days till Tim is dismissed. I swear it will happen one of these days, it's all just a matter of time - I hope. Then the annoying hyperbole, misleading inflation of importance of scores at these domestic meets (which are never indicative of the more proper international judging), the glossing over of the small errors that Simone does have, the shrill exclamations and the dumbing down of routines will no longer be inflicted upon us viewers.

Thang Vuong Yeah, she would score highly but perhaps not as highly as she does here. Not a dig at Simone, just a dig at Tim's commentating. Going on about how Simone should have gotten a 10 in execution when she clearly had small errors such as hops on landings, bah. So annoying and inaccurate.

Lillygymnast99 Easy. Have you not had a passing comment about someone's new hair cut or outfit? Would you physically attend this event and not make any casual comments? There was no complaint built into the comment. "Wow" implies surprise. "joined the heavy make-up crew" is a casual allusion to how they previously did not invest in darker make-up--it's different. YT has a comment section so that we can comment about what we're watching. Does it matter? Well, I felt conversationalist enough to submit the brief comment and another one about how awesome Simone's beam routine is, but at the same time I spent 2 hours watching the competition (er...4 hours. I've watched it twice.). Does it matter to respond? Sure, if we feel like it. Anyway, I apologize if my philosophical/analytical mood is off-putting.

+Leah Markum The difference is really just the lipstick. Neither of them wore it previously, and honestly, few American gymnasts do. It's easy to smudge, or get it all over your teeth. And if you have a habit of licking your lips, you will have it eaten off half way through the meet. lol. But these two ladies are no longer children, and have the maturity to pull it off, I think. It's pretty common among many competitors from other countries.

Thien Dinh I won't. The Karolyis are tremendously talented and have given a lot, yes, but they have way too much power in the sport. USA gymnastics is an arbitrary dictatorship based on the whims of the Karolyis-- there are no objective standards for who gets sent to which competitions.

justcogitating Yeah exactly. As someone who is not from the USA (but who loves USA gymnastics), I've always thought that it is a bit strange how the USA is such a democratic country but then in the sport of gymnastics (almost) all of the big decisions are made by the Karolyis. It has worked out pretty well considering the results of the last decades, but still I think it would be good if there would be a bit more democracy and objectivity.
