    I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin, "home" of HD and truthfully? EVERYBODY around here has a Harley! That's one reason why I'm seriously looking at the Triumph America LT. I like the styling and the fact that it's NOT a Harley and it's NOT a V twin ... something different than the rest of the herd. Another factor is price. Harley's are woefully overpriced and mostly you're just buying the name and "aura" around the brand. Now, they're great bikes but can cost twice what a Triumph would. I'm going to the Triumph dealer this Saturday and have a look around. Great review!

    Wayne Novotny Good luck! In my opinion, although it isn't as powerful as the Rocket III, I'd say that the Thunderbird Storm is the best Triumph cruiser as it is a lovely balance between weight and power... Have a great Saturday and I look forward to hearing what you think! Enjoy! And don't forget to shout Tally Bally Ho! It helps! ;-)

    Triumph TOR sound great and are the only pipes that will not void your warranty. I have them on my 2013. Love the sound.

  • @nwroadrat

    I recognize that sound. That was my first owned bike. A phenomenal freeway, comfort and long distance transport bike for the price. The older models weren't balanced as well as they could be. That made them easy to tip and troublesome in slower maneuvers. I suspect they've tried to attack some of that with the fatter front tire. One complaint the older ones had, the reason I like them, they fit tall people well and not small and short people. It looks like the newer handlebars and floorboard would be crunching me up too.

    Morning captain! Ton from the Netherlands here. Thank you for the pleasant review of the America. Although I am a re-entering the motorworld after 30 years, this Triumph has my undivided attention, well...the Speedmaster actually. But most comments and reviews are pretty much the same, a easy comfortable and very good to handle for "veterans" and new riders, even for riders like me with my 6,2 ft (188 cm). The sound seems to be the only issue most viewers do comment on, but the aftermarket does provide lots of diversity ( BC, Trident, etc). So' at first an testride and then see what the market is offering. Concerning your way of reviewing these British bikes, very practicle approach and very British as it should be on such a bike, thank you!

    Thank you very much Ton! Yes, a perfectly able bike and fun to boot... Just not enough oomph for me... It should do you very well, and the Speedmaster has a little more room due to the different bars and rake... Thank you for your kind words and for watching! I agree with you entirely... I can't help being British, so why shy away from it? Why not embellish it! :-)

    I like that. I'm only 5'10" so it would probably suit me a treat. I remember in my first vlog when I went 60mph for the first time, my quote was, "I feel like a parachute." You get used to it though. Shame it hasn't got a fuel gauge and gear indicator. I know most cruisers don't but I kinda want them for my next bike. Nice review fella ✊

    Dear Mr Rambunctious. I've watched your vid with great interest as I own a 2014 America in two tone red and I'm well chuffed with it. I have the short tors slash cut pipes which, if I might say sound considerably better. All that popping on the overrun must be down to not having the fuelling mapped correctly as mine doesn't pop at all. Although my Mic is pants on my last vid its possible to hear my pipes. Feel free to take a gander. Enjoying your vids immensely.

  • @CaptainRambunctious

    @CaptainRambunctious

    9 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I figured that there would be better pipes out there! I'm fairly certain that the popping is due to the SAI and also possibly that it may not have been remapped after having the shorties put on. It's a very good medium cruiser, but as with yours, I'd prefer to have had louder pipes!! :-) Thanks for watching and thank you for enjoying my vids! I'll check out yours! :-) Tally Bally Ho! :-)

    A very good review Captain, I agree with all your comments. Having owned one for nearly 3 years now, I just have to say to any critics, if you think it lacks power, you should buy a Rocket Touring... I had one for 10 months...good luck if you can afford and live with one! The America gives enough performance and is cheap to run and good fun. My pipes sound better than the ones on the one you rode (in my opinion)...& you are right about the bars being too far back. Mines up for sale by the way! Good review, keep them coming. 4:36 Your description of your seating position must mean you're relatively tall? That's one of the reasons I'm looking for my next bike, I'm a little short for my vstar, my sticks don't quite rest on the front pegs, they're more against them and I always feel like they're going to slide off. I have to point my left foot forward to shift.

    Lewis Ranshaw Very interesting and lovely looking bike. Another blogger rides one +ArizonaRE and he seems to have a hoot! It looks great. However, being a single, you will have pretty heavy vibes. It is low power (about 42bhp) but has a good thump. It is light as well. It is basically a retro bike that really doesn't have much performance. You basically ride it for its looks. A bit like my Thruxton but lacking the performance. But if you LOVE the look and how it makes you feel when you are on it, and that is what you crave, then there is nothing wrong with it! It's a very cool bike. I don't know you, but I know that I would get bored with it and would miss acceleration. But it IS a very cool looking bike. I would love to review one if I found a local RE dealer. I'll do some research. :-) Thanks for watching!

    Hi Captain, I like your reviews very much. I am planning a 2 day ride in the USA in September about 500 miles per day. I have done 1 day trips previously and have rented Harleys but was not overly impressed (being a Triumph man). I could rent a Thruxton or a Bonnie but I am not sure my bottom could last for that long. Unfortunately a Triumph cruiser is not available. I know I would not be able to do this trip if I was riding my Street Triple. Any thoughts?

  • @CaptainRambunctious

    @CaptainRambunctious

    9 жыл бұрын

    Ian Morrissey Hmm. Interesting. I've done similar mileage on the Street Triple with the gel seat, but not quite 1000 miles in 2 days on the Thruxton with a gel seat. I think that seating position on the Bonnie would be the most relaxing, as it is a comfortable sit up position with plenty of leg room, whereas the street triple and thruxton have higher and more rearwards pegs. HOWEVER, I'd ask if you could specify the gel seat for the bonnie? Also, depends on your luggage requirements as well. It's a pity that you couldn't rent a Thunderbird... The LT would be perfect for this. The most fun bonnie in my opinion is the T100 as it is the most classic looking but also has plenty of space for panniers and they might supply you one with them on. Anyway, that's all I can think of I'm afraid, but have fun! It sounds like a great ride! Your other option would be the Sprint GT. Yes it's modern, but you wouldn't notice the mileage at all. I just rode one and was blown away as a touring option. Tally Bally ho! :-)

  • @ianmorrissey5453

    Captain Rambunctious Thanks for your quick reply. I doubt I would be able to ask for a gel seat. Luggage requirements will be minimal so will use my Kriega R25 probably. Put in over 8500 K in my first riding season, I have highway pegs. the offset of the engine brings your right leg close to the cylinder head, and if your riding in rain gear you have a good chance of melting your pant leg. Other than that I love this bike. Mine is a 2012 and I'm really disappointed in the lack of after market add on,s. I generally cruise alone and wish there was an after market back support for single riders. And I wish there was a center stand as standard.

    I'm glad Triumph makes a good mid-cruiser. I like the cruiser style very much, you see, and the bear thought of just having all those v-twins to choose among is dreadful. The Speedmaster is the right one for me since I like that, shall we call it, more aggresive position. Off with the airfilterbox, add some good exhausts, remap or rejet and vuptii! All those sleepy horses are awake! Btw, the new Speedy has got a 19" front wheel. A chap wrote something about a Streetbob and Wideglide review. Both better than the one you tried earlier. (Softail-ish) The Streetbob is the better of the 2. But still miles from the Thunderbird! Tada!

    Those look like beach bars, those aren't stock are they? The versions I've seen at the Triumph dealer here have more of a Y bar which I think would have made it more comfortable to you. BTW- I can say, as I have ridden a few Triumphs and the HD 883, that they compare quite well in acceleration and audible stress in high gear cruising speed. The HD Iron 883 'felt' heavier, or higher center of gravity I should say, than the Speedmaster I rode. Toodle Pip, BUHHHEEEEE! B-)

    Arizona RE I think that they are stock, but have been rotated too far down. They need to be a bit higher I think.. I'd certainly make that change if it were mine. You're comment on the HD 883 is pretty much what I would have expected, but until I ride one (which I can't as I didn't like the fit) I won't be able to truthfully compare them! :-) Honoured that you watched! :-) Loved your trip to the classic bikes! :-) Gorgeous. I love the looks of the America but I've always thought it needed more power, quite a good price but given the choice i'd go for the thruxton if there the same price, I suppose one good thing about flying along on a test ride is that you don't have to clean all the bugs off when you take it back, lol, Good ride bro, RSM8.

    So I see from your other videos you actually got a Thunderbird Storm. I'm kind of stuck between an America and a Thunderbird LT. Is the price-difference worth it for a newb? What if you don't care what size engine it has, as long as it goes? I guess my dilemma comes because the America lacks ABS, has plastic parts, chain, and wondering if I'd "grow out of it" too soon. But I'm afraid the Thunderbird may be too much bike for a newb, and well, it IS more expensive. My backstory: I used to ride back in 1994 with a $100 learner-bike (1982 Honda CB450S Nighthawk). It... had issues. But, it worked for me at the time with no money and learning how to ride. I ultimately sold it as I didn't have the time or opportunity to ride back then. Fast-forward to now, and I now have the time and money to take up riding. Got my permit, road-test/class is in April, but I'd like to get a bike. I keep coming back to the America. Do you think it would be ok for someone getting back into riding with probably 5000 miles (in the driver's seat) experience? Do you think it would be too heavy? I'm 5'11", so don't think being female ever was a problem... but I've heard walking it around the lot could be problematic. Would I get bored quickly and want to upgrade? I've heard several comments about the sound being too quiet & "sewing machine" like and lacking vibration. Perfectly OK with this, myself (and actually prefer it thus). I appreciate any thoughts you have. Tally Bally Ho!

    Hmm. Tricky one. I think the America would be best for a newb because it is lighter and more manageable. However, I think you might tire of if quite quickly? But that's up to your persona really. Ultimately, you could have the thunderbird as a newb but you'd have to be very cautious and careful when slow riding due to the weight, but you say you're ridden before, so maybe those skills are retained from then? You could be a new rider with the Thunderbird, as long as you are careful with the performance until you are more confident and experienced. Up to you. Do you think you are the sort of person who might get bored of a less powerful bike more quickly? Hope this has helped a bit...

    Thanks! I'm not really sure. I'm not a torquey speed-demon, and I drive a Prius (lol!) Mostly I think it's the ABS I want. But, as I've never had ABS on a bike before, it's not like I'm downgrading from what I know. There was a time when 800+cc's was considered quite a large engine, so maybe I'll be ok. But now I'm looking around, and it looks like there are some used Thunderbirds to be had for about the same price (or better) than a new AmericaLT. Love that blue though...

    Well, I ended up going with a Thunderbird, but a slightly older one (2012, 11K miles), which solved the humming and hawing over the $7K difference. (Same price as a new AmericaLT). While not blue, she's got a beautiful "red marble haze" paint job, and I think I was in love when I first saw the listing. (Went in, sat on it, fired it up, looked it over today and said, "let's do it.") Got my ABS, liquid-cooling, etc. Without gas in the tank, she didn't seem overly big. Maybe it's because I've been sitting on a lot of bikes lately, but I think she'll do quite nicely. As for the complaints about the America muffler sound - there was a Speedmaster there with aftermarket slash pipes which had the nice "thump" everyone seems to want - too loud for my taste! But in case that's what you're going for, it appears to be easily achievable, and it had the right "note."

    Well it had the same engine which was in my 865 Thruxton and I had that for 2 years. Did 20,000 miles with no issues... They are cheap because they are rather underpowered but look amazing. I prefer them to the new cheap Harleys anyway... :-) They just aren't that popular a range, compared with it's siblings the Bonnevilles.. Should be some good bargains around with the new Bonnevilles now out...

    Thank you for watching millinutz. I apologise for leaving my height out of this one. I do mention my size on most of my reviews, but it's easy for me to forget that people may have not watched my other videos and don't know. I try to remember to say the same things on all my videos but it ends up feeling a bit repetitive... That is definitely my error though. I do have long legs, but I'm not huge, I'm only 6'1 after all, but it was the reach with these bars. Obviously this can be remedied with straighter bars which is what I would do if I got the new Speedmaster. It has the same bars curved in... Thanks for watching and thank you for saying well done! Not my kind of bike I would have to say. Looks like its been "Harleynised" and I got the impression that the engine was working too hard. Probably because of the weight issue. No. British Triumph styling works for me every time. Send this to the yanks were style has never been much of a thing (Well not since the 50's and 60's anyway) Let them piss about on it. Sorry Triumph. Not for me. Not that you give a shirty shit about me I realise that but its my opinion anyway. Thanks for the ride along and look at her though, Captain. Bally good of you old thing.
