    I had a 2008. Was wonderful. Only thing I would have asked to have different would have been fuel injection instead of carbs and a 6-speed to get a tad lower RPM at higher highway/interstate speeds. Loved that thing. Windscreen, bags and heated grips made it a joy and I rode it yearly down to 25 degrees F. Riding with buddies with Harleys was frustrating because they couldn't keep up on twisty roads, but this couldn't keep up with sport bikes on twisty roads. It was in between, in that joyous comfortable spot where just plain fun is. It was fast enough, turned well enough, looked great, was comfortable, could carry a passenger well, and didn't have to roar its way down the road. Pure joy.

    @@Theorangeman. That's awesome! My 2008 would cut off occasionally, didn't like the cold, and had some weird fuel issues occasionally. All due to the carbs. Had it had fuel injection I'd still have it today.

    I own a 2002 B/A. Great bike. I'm an old Harley rider who learned to wrench his oun. I take pride in it, because I feel it is part of the package. I like to leave tips that will help you owner/ mechanics out. Here is one. I chose this bike because I like chain drive. The biggest advantage is you don't have to tear your bike apart to replace one. I'm not going to get into how to. Plenty of stuff on the web pick one and you will do alright. My tip is this. Rather then buy a new chain from the shop, find a place that sells industrial chain. They can cross reference the numbers on your chain and supply you with the same exact thing,, and for quite a few dollars less. Keep the shiney side up.

    I owned two Triumph 650 bonnies vintage 60 bikes. If you didn't have enough for a Sportster the Triumph was the must have in those days. I never could keep those bikes running for very long, but when they ran they were really fun to drive. I could drive for hrs.. And they didn't rumble like a Harley but they sure sounded good. I really wouldn't mind owning another low mile model.

    Seems all America's with stock exhausts sound like an asthmatic sewing machine. I cut the baffles out of mine with a 1 1/8" hole saw. Sounds more like a motorcycle and a ' lol more mid - range to boot. Ride safe.

    Could you make a small comparison between triumph america and its bigger brother thunderbird, please?

  • @StateOfMind63

    @StateOfMind63

    Жыл бұрын

    @@ceva4085 They are actually not that similar despite both being big parralel twins and both being Triumphs. The Thunderbird is bigger and comfier but a lot heavier. I actually feel like the Thunderbird handles slightly better in the corners despite its much greater weight. Both sound great with aftermarket exhausts but the Thunderbird sounds more like a V Twin. If you are 6ft or over you will look too big on the Speedmaster. They suit shorter men under 6ft and women. The Thunderbird also makes its power much lower down at about 2000 revs. The Speedmaster is plenty fast enough but doesn make its power until about 4000 revs. The speedmaster is more of a street bike than A cruiser. If you plan on doing longer rides and riding a lot on the highway/motorways I would recommend the Thunderbird over the Speedmaster. If you want an easier to manage bike that can still do highway speeds when you need it to then the 1200 Speedmaster is a still a good option.

    One day, I want to ride one of those. I'm wondering though; with a 2300 cc engine, is the mpg's so low that you might as well be driving a car. I know that you would ride a Triumph III for fuel economy--you ride it for the GRUNT!

    But why would you spend pounds ( sorry dollars )in trying to get a cruiser to do speeds they were never meant to and if you want a bike with a top speed of ? then why not buy a Vulcan Vn 2000 or a triumph rocket to start with ,but the America was designed to cruise at a decent speed without blasting your eardrums apart with a solid weight but one that won’t give you a hernia and travel along all day without you needing a crane to get of In fact wasn’t that the original idea of a cruiser just to amble along without a trip to casualty and just enjoy biking
