2015 Polaris Sportsman 570 ATV Mods Vid-045

Фильм және анимация

This video is dedicated to 1 Crazy Nordlander (KZread Creator).
The video walks you through a few simple modifications to my Polaris Sportsman 570 ATV.
-A Battery Relocation Kit
-Side Panel Latch Hardware Kit
The battery relocation kit makes access to the battery much easier and less painful for old guys' knees and bad backs. Not an issue if you're young and nimble (smile).
The spring-loaded side panel latches just make plain sense. Why didn't Polaris make these common sense modifications from the beginning? Join me as I make these modifications to a 2015 Polaris Sportsman 570 ATV. Thanks for your support.

    Thanks so much. I ordered the battery relocate kit through Amazon and the side panel fastener kit from Quad Logic. The battery relocate kit is coming by this week end and the other is on backorder. I got three of those fastener kits for each of my sportsman but one battery relocate kit for my white 570. I will get a relocate kit for my old blue ETX and new blue 570 once that is out of warranty. Thanks so much for doing this video!

    Nordlander, it was a pleasure. I know you and I discussed this battery relocation several times and so far new location of the battery is absolutely fine. I don't know if you travel through high waters but it really would be nice if there was a drier location for the battery or if the battery could be concealed in the front compartment away from water. Of course, you then lose storage space. If you think of some way to totally enclose the battery, keep me informed. Best to you on installing the attachments. Note: When you get to the cable docking station, assemble and attach the battery cables onto the docking station PRIOR to attempting to attach the terminal docking station to your ATV. If you try to attach battery cables after you already installed the docking station, it's really, painfully difficult.

    Hey Ray. Yep, the ATV is fun to ride and it doesn't get torture-test rides like my old Kawasaki Brute Force did years ago. I mostly used them to carry bags of 4 stacked bags of cement from one part of the land to the other. Heck, when I look back about 16 years ago I used to drag those bags of cement through the uncut wooded areas with a 2 wheeled hand-dolly. Now that was some torture but now I have better equipment to help with those tasks. Hope you're able to get some work done on your land where you'll build the cabin. Remember, I made reservations for one cabin room with a scenic view at your place. LoL Take it easy, Ray.

    Haha, yep Chip, you're right. The ATV is a bit too dang clean. In fact I was called out by Kappers Outdoors to get her dirty (haha). He mentioned the battery relocation is a bit better... BUT...one of his ATVs or UTVs had an issue with battery location. He said mud shorted out the cables since they got gunked-up. So I think I might have to create some kind of make-shift cover. Thanks Shane. You know, the only reason I found them is b/c I was snooping around the internet for some way to relocate my battery which I was going to relocate to the upper-front compartment of the ATV. These latches sure do make it easier to get into the side compartments. BTW, in your Razor 1000, where is your battery located? Do you have concern for the battery being immersed in water, mud, and gunk? I like your bottom skid plate on the Razor (I think you have a bottom skid plate). Heck, maybe I've been watching too many different Polaris 1000 XP vids (ha). Take it easy.

  • @ShaneBurrell1

    @ShaneBurrell1

    5 жыл бұрын

    It's one of the best things I've done. I have had to inspect that center console a hundred times and it blocks all light in the shop and it's black plastic so very hard to get all the push pins out. The new fastners I can do quickly and on the trail so it's worth the install. The battery for the RZR is under the seat which releases with a pull strap. I have a UHW skid on the bottom. It's a slick thick plastic that really helps rocky riding since it will allow you to slide over rough stuff with no damage or friction.

    Great Vid. Getting at the battery on a 570 is a pain. May want to look at putting terminal caps on at least the positive connections... I learned this the hard way. My model was a 2014 570, which just had a metal strap around the battery to hold in it in place. Battery came loose, and touched the positive terminal on the quad which caused my electrical system to catch fire. Not a fun day. Models a year later like yours has the metal holder... Guessing Polaris learned something too.

    C-Mac, yep, this is my first Polaris and I never even thought about where the battery was located. I had a Kawasaki Brute and that little thing was named appropriately. It would run like a bull charging out of a stall. The battery was located under the seat and never got dirty or had any problems. I'm hoping this Polaris holds up strong and doesn't end up being a headache. Thanks for watching and the support. Enjoy your week. Hey, I got an old rod and reel to show ya. I'll do a little video when I get my act together.

    Roger that, NC Boyz. The kwik-release fasteners make side panel removal a whole lot easier. I almost lost the original plastic plug-ins several times pulling them out but we'll see how this holds up. As you could see, it's not too difficult to install these kwik-releases but....how long will they hold up? If the spring gets gunky and breaks, I can always revert back to the original plastic plug-ins and the rivet holes will never be seen since the outer panel is not drilled. good luck with your install. The whole process should only take 30 minutes but my riveting gun kept slipping and the stem would not break off. So I snipped the excess stem off and then ground down the sharp edge with a file.

    Tyrrell, check this out. My grandkids were coming to visit pap-pap over Thanksgiving week and they ALWAYS love riding the ATV and guess what? The battery was completely dead. So I had to take out the old battery for a new one. Removing the battery was a matter of minutes compared to bending down, crawling on my knees, and squeezing between all the tight-fitted tubing just to remove the shield, then finally pull-out the battery...then the entire reverse order to squeeze a moderately heavy battery back into a tight spot before even attempting to reconnet the terminal cables....YIKES! It used to be a nightmare. I removed and replaced the old battery in a matter of minutes which was GREAT. I do NOT regret relocating my battery for one minute. Whomever originally designed the existing battery location definitely was not an ATV rider. Strangely enough, I only had to access under my ATV side panels one time. I'm so glad you're making the easy mods. Thanks about the mint ATV comment. The ATV just doesn't get ridden much any more since the grand kids, nephews, and nieces aren't around to take her out. She sure is due for a good romp in the swampy bogs. isn't she? Have a great Christmas with family and loved ones. 👍🏽🤠 12/8/22

    One thing you might want to keep in mind with that battery location is if you are ever mudding, you could short out the battery & electrical system if a bunch of mud cakes and connects the terminals. This is what happened on our electric buggy and one of our other machines. Guess that means when we go riding I'll go through the puddles and you'll have to go around them ??? LOL. Take care bud.

  • @houndsmanone4563

    Ha, that was a good one, Kap. But if you remember, the battery was originally down low directly in front of the engine. A dumb place for it, I'd say. Personally I was going to relocate it up in the front glove compartment but opted not. I may have to if I get it slammed. My other ATV (Kawasaki) had it's battery directly under the seat high above the ground and I never had a problem. That's where Polaris should have placed the battery in the first place. So for now, you're probably right, I have a better chance of the battery shorting out.

    Yep, I know Mike, you're right. I wish I could have placed the battery in front compartment or if there was a compartment under the seat. I'm thinking of making an enclosed compartment where it is but for me it's much easier for me to bend and kneel to do work on the battery. My knees just cannot take it too much more. After 28+ years in the military, my knees are too shot and won't tolerate much more abuse 😊. Thanks for watching and commenting. Will stop by your channel. Have a good one.

    What holds the battery down love the spot it's in good job

  • @houndsmanone4563

    @houndsmanone4563

    First and foremost, thank you for watching and commenting. The battery uses the same original metal battery outer shield/box that was on the ATV. The battery also had a black rubber stretch cord with two "S"-hooks that stretched over the battery while seated in the metal box. So the original metal battery box and the original black stretch cord are still used to keep the battery from being jostled around while you're driving hills and trails. I simply love the new battery location. I have not had any issues. Since I made this mod, I've had to change out my battery (the old battery died). The new location made the entire process as smooth as a baby's behind. Bending down on my knee was much better than crawling or lying on the floor to accress the battery cavity. It was a nightmare changing a battery prior to the battery relocation. Thanks for such a great question, Rich E @user-et1bp5mn8x. I should have discussed the battery strap-down method during my original video but I just seem to forget stuff when making a vid. Have a fine week. 👍🏽🤠 9/21/23

    Does your rear suspension sag to the point where it's almost leveled out? Yours seems pretty stiff unlike mine

  • @houndsmanone4563

    Hello Darren. No, I haven't had any issues with the rear suspension sagging but I'll keep an eye open since you mentioned it. My Polaris is a 2015 and don't know if prior-year or after-year models had issues. I ride 2 up at times and still no issues. Does your entire rear sag or only 1 side? Are the shocks shot? Spring/Coil on the shock damaged?

  • @darrenhicks94

    @darrenhicks94

    The entire rear end sags a nice bit and dosent go back anywhere near where its suppose to be. The shocks are also on the stiffest setting. Nothing looks damaged to me I was gonna order stiffer springs online but I didnt know if this was a common issue. Mine is a 2018 sportsman 570 non ebs

    @@darrenhicks94 I hope you figure out what the issue is, D. You would think newer model 570"s would retain the same suspension or if anything, be given a more sophisticated set-up. Keep us posted when you find out the culprit. I hope it's nothing major. Heck, there's always some kind of high-dollar fix the dealership's service department throws at an owner. Have a fine week and drive safely. Pleasure chatting with ya.

I just got back from a 975 mile round-trip drive to GA to pick up a roll up door which you'll see in a video of my project I've been doing. Thanks for checking in with me. Thanks for watching Bobby. Well, it's not that clean now. But I clean it up real good after a run. I used to mud run but those days are behind me so that saves a bit of work now days but I still try to keep it clean after running on the land. Different story when the grandkids, nephews, and kids run it. Thanks for watching.

    Hope you got it, @2d40. Both of my cables were long enough for my 2015 Polaris, however, they definitely were not easy to bend when making a backloop. I hope you made a video and posted it, I'd love to view it. I learn from other folks vids, as well. For me, the whole process was physically tough since bending is an issue for me. That's why moving the battery was truly essential. Since making my video, my bending situation has only gotten worse. Just take care of yourself. As my Mum used to tell me "Health is Wealth". I'm now in my 70's and my body is like a Nestles Crunch Bar.... "hardly damaged on the outside but all broken up on the inside". After 28.5 years in the Marine Corps it took its toll on my old body. So bending less truly helps. Take it easy, Happy New Years, and thanks for commenting. 👍🏽🤠 12/30/23

    Hey there GoodStuff. Thanks for watching and commenting. The work required is pretty standard and not complicated but the difficult thing for me is getting down low to the ground to actually install the modification kits (smile). I should have done this stuff 15 to 20 years ago when my body could withstand gravity better (smile). Have a fine upcoming weekend and thanks again for your support.

    Not sold on this idea. Maybe if all cables were replaced instead of hacking in and extending. Could extend a single fused hot to a more accessible location for charging. Stock battery location better for weight distribution. A good battery lasts years

    Thanks for watching and your comment, Scot but I disagree. This set-up is simply ideal for me. No more getting on my knees to access the battery and wires underneath the ATV frame for me. I'm in my 70's and any relief I can make on my body, is great. You're apparently younger and much more spry than I. All my younger years were spent serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. My knees, back, and other body parts are in need of repair or replacement 😄 so I'll let you younger guys do it your way. Thanks much again for stopping in to view/comment on my channel. Happy new years to you as well. 👍🏽🤠 1/16/23
