@k0ngK Same. Upgrading this laptop from the original OS was horrible experience. When you run outdated OS, the browser that is tied to OS is untrusted so I could not even visit Apple support website, they blocked the browser. Also, Apple forgot my password and signup is blocked on outdated browser and require newer iOS or Mac device. It is dumb that Apple kills off older Macs so eventually you cannot even install software like newest browsers.

This is a really good choice for people who are: 1) In need of a laptop for school or work 2) Do not like gaming and feel no need to video edit at all 3) Value portability more than anything on a laptop 4) Already invested and are used to the Apple ecosystem 5) Not turning over the couch cushions looking for enough money for a meal

I'm thinking about getting it to go along with my regular windows laptop. I'm a heavy user, but I want to try out OSX for the first time. I also want to use XCode (to develop iOS apps), and while I could use a virtual machine for OSX on Windows, it is a hassle and is very slow. When it's time to replace the Windows, I'll likely build a hackintosh or a windows PC

Raúl Narea well that's because you haven't tried both. I grew up with windows, got my first macbook when I was 18, made me realise how terrible windows is. Still used windows for WoW and a few other games, until I had a dual boot on my mac. Got a 2015 Asus as a gift, though I'll give it a try. Realised windows is still terrible, purchased the new macbook. I think, me, and obviously MKBHD, have way more valuable opinions on the matter since we both use macs and pcs. MacBooks are incredibly piece of technology and quality, and their quality and design inspire me every day when I work on them. I don't think I would have started TheSoundYouNeed, or put so much time into choosing the most beautiful artworks and focus on quality if I was working on pc.

I've had this laptop since launch. I use Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and iMovie without any issues at all. Most people do not use their laptop for more than what I just listed. So, this laptop actually fits about 90% of all laptop users. Yes, the lack of a USB port and become a pain. However for the most part most devices are wireless or Bluetooth to begin with. After about one month I was very accustomed to guess having no USB ports. Overall this is probably the best laptop ever made, unless you need to perform intensive processing.

Not really Devices must do some Key Features better than a Smartphone or a Laptop or else it has no point of existence. Netbooks flopped so hard because they were crap and can't do anything better. Tablets can never replace Notebooks cause they're lacking some key things like getting work done efficently. Tablets are great for Web Browsing and Media Consumption but you can't get Work done with them.

It's a huge achievement in engineering, just as the first Macbook Air was. But because it's the FIRST to do all the things it does well (thinness, lightness, etc.), it's expensive unsurprisingly, which is why no one should buy this and people should opt for the Macbook Air instead. The price should come down drastically in the next few years as competitors make similar kinds of notebooks, as it did for the Macbook Air.

R Yokoe "But because it's the FIRST to do all the things it does well (thinness, lightness, etc.), it's expensive unsurprisingly" Except that's complete BS, it's not the first to achieve that. The Surface Pro 3 (a Tablet, Digitizer Drawing Board, AND Laptop in 1) is thinner, lighter, more powerful, more ports, more versatile, higher res webcam, longer battery life, yet it's still cheaper and reasonably priced. Thin and light is no excuse for an inferior device, the Surface Pro already made that clear. This is just Apple yet again taking advantage of those who have more cash than sense...

R Yokoe Look at that thing. It's $1300 and has a 1.1GHz processor. Half-Life, a game released in 1998, requires an 800MHz processor. My 800$ laptop that's 2 years older has a 2.9GHz processor. It's not any less portable. Most of the time laptops are going to be under your arm or in a backpack anyways, so thinness doesn't really matter. Especially if it kills off functionality to the extent it does in Macbooks.

+Ivan Balajić The thing is, the disc drive was *replaced by* USB, not *disposed off*. Look at it this way: all the components of old computers have not been removed at all, but they are just updated to the most current tech. Floppy disk, optical drive, VGA -> Cloud, USB, HDMI -> now USB Type-C. The old charger also got updated to a USB Type-C port, but... the problem is there's only ONE port. That means no usb no display port when charging, or no charging no display when using usb, etc. So basically, instead of updating the components, Apple *removed* them, which is completely different from "removing" the optical drive.

Exactly, if I was an avid Apple buyer, let's say been buying their laptops for years and all, this would essentially be a big insult. Low specs, only 1 port?! I get the whole convenience aspect of skinny devices, but you can only go so far where it starts to hinder the actual purpose of the device.

TutorialBump Exactly! The new MacBook is literally just Apple separating fools and their money, mercilessly this time around. - Removed multiple ports, using thin and lite as an excuse, even when the Surface Pro 3 has proved that to be BS - Downgraded the CPU to the weak Core M - Downgraded the GPU from Intel HD 6000 to HD 5300 - Downgraded the WebCam from 720p to 480p - Removed the backlit logo to cut down on costs - They even went as far as shortening the power supply cord to further cut down on the costs - Still made it even more expensive Don't know why exactly you'd want to throw such amount of cash at an already giant corporation for such an extremely inferior product...besides blind love for that fruit or just outright foolish.

Been using this as my main computer for the past month and have been very impressed. I actually *love* the keyboard, so much so I've grown to hate using the normal keyboards now. Performance-wise, I'm coming from a 2010 base MBP, so this is actually an upgrade of sorts. One port doesn't affect me too much, even before I rarely used my ports, but if you're one of those people who needs to use non-USB ports on a daily basis then I don't think the compromise is worth it; stick with the rMBP/MBA. Overall, fits my needs perfectly and will most likely stick with this line for future laptops.

Great review. I was in love with this thing when it came out. Bought one - and I'm loving it. I agree 100%, it's a tablet replacement. But, for most people on the planet - the power delivered inside is more than enough. So, I traded more power for a more beautiful and seamless experience. The worst thing about this - that sole port... I'm sure it'll have two or three next year. We shall see. Again, great review!

Cameron Worsham Chromebool Pixel and Surface Pro 3. Yes. And they are all three quite potent in different areas.. For quite some people this will win over the Surface Pro (even though that's a tablet, when you add the thinnest keyboard you have to buy separately, the Macbook is actually thinner, lighter, more silent and even cheaper (similar RAM and Storage) than the Surface Pro). Macbook offers better traditional productivity with the bigger and better keyboard and huge fully functional touchpad and a premium design, USB-C port high res screen, great speakers and OSX (compatible with Apple's ecosystem if the user happens to have more devices. Surface Pro offers touchscreen and a pen support -(which you have to buy separately I believe)- (which is included), a (dated but) slightly better processor (albeit one requiring a fan), better webcam, regular type A USB 3.0 port, display port, microSD slot, oh and a stand (they are very proud of their stand). As for the Chromebook Pixel, it is more web focused, less office program focused. Web-focused screen aspect ratio, better resolution than both others, thicker and heavier than both but still light, double USB-C port, touchscreen (albeit on a laptop form factor..) better webcam, and Google's ecosystem. Another difference is the location of weight when working (hardware weight behind the screen (SP3) or under the keyboard (Mac and Pixel). They all overlap in their target audience and are heavily competing for those customers. They all have different advantages over one-another..

I bought this ( 1.2GHz 512GB Space Grey ) mainly for college work, and the portability and let me just say it's perfectly fine. Sure you can't edit 4k vid without it dropping frames or play games at ultra settings but it's done everything I've asked it and a bit more. The main selling point was the size and weight. My previous laptop ( still have it ) was a MSI Stealth and that drained through its battery and would often have too carry a charger with me which wasn't practical. I can see why people would thing why would you buy it but the thing is its quite powerful for its little size and doesn't eat through its battery.

Strange, isn't it. All the arguments above and not one of them has commented on this. Glad to hear you've found it useful. I'm a photographer and do a lot editing. I have an iMac 27 for video editing, iPad Air 2 for general use, MacBook Pro Retina 15 for Lightroom and Photoshop but have some business software that won't run on tablets. It's a pain lugging around a 15" laptop for appointments with customers, especially if I'm in the middle of photo editing or synchronising /exporting/uploading thousands of images at a time. This MacBook will let me keep everything in sync and is so portable I can have it with me at all times. Yes, it's not the most powerful, and I'm sure there are alternatives that have more power and costs less. But that's not why people are buying it. My first iPad was wifi only, so it stayed at home. Since getting cellular it's with me everywhere I go. Due to the portability, the new MacBook would go everywhere with me and I welcome it with open arms.

Honestly people, it doesn't pack as much of a punch, but if you want a really nice laptop, this thing is a beauty. In love with the entire thing. Once you get used to how it types, this thing is amazing. I would say the butterfly keyboard and size of the keys all make it worth the price. This is a great review. Initially I spewed hatred about this thing, until I tried one out. It is unbelievably gorgeous, not just the size and thin shape, but the screen. Now I realize all my "I could buy a dozen Chromebooks for this and be better off" arguments fell flat. This doesn't compare to a Chromebook, it compares favorably to a Chromebook Pixel. The screen is beyond good, almost justifying the small size (I think 13 is the minimum - and perfect - size for a laptop). And while the Pixel only had a screen going for it, this has a functional OS, and an amazing trackpad. MKBHD is spot on with his assessment of the trackpad. I was adamantly against it until I tried it. It's really good. However, the keys on the keyboard suck. I mean, really suck. It feels just slightly better than typing on an iPad…only slightly. Overall, it's the one port that kills it for me. The atrocious webcam, terrible keyboard, high cost (although more justified once you see the screen, and know the cost of the Chromebook Pixel) and limited functional computing power makes it a definite pass. Put your money toward a 5k iMac and just keep using your iPad, or wait for the next gen iPad Pro. While this review is more favorable than I thought it would be, and would have been had I done it, it is very good at pointing out the pros and touching on each of the cons. Definitely a must see if you're in the market for this, and a huge improvement over the Apple Watch review, not because it's more favorable (I think the Watch is a joke right now) but because it fell flat. Good return to form, sir! Kudos EDIT: Please do a review on the most damning news to Apple in recent memory: The fact that the recently-published royalties of Apple Music are giving a big F.U. to indie artists, and paying less than Spotify, a move that, coupled with high monthly cost, will hurt musicians and the industry.

"The next Macbook will be, undoubtedly, a lot better" Yeah guess what, they just announced the 2016 version. They switched to the Skylake CPU (which won't do much due to thermal throttling) and added a new color. So yeah, still wayyy too expensive^^'

Like I said, throttling and you can screw the extra power (also maybe 10% CPU not 30, and maybe 30% GPU). After 1 min it clocks down, end of story.

like most idiots, this one +Abe Tef fell prey to Apple's marketing idiocracies. The CPU is nowhere near 30% better than the last one. Nor the GPU.

Vihan Bhargava That wasn't his point at all. Hell you don't even need to be a gamer to make those points. All those downgrades yet you guys would still buy it out at a ridiculous price. No fool is going to play BF and wishing to max it even on the previous generation. Irrelevant as it is.

Vihan Bhargava Erm, that's not like saying that at all. A phone functions to call/text and has apps to access social sites, GPS, etc. (whatever quirks you do with your phone) you can do out of your pocket in your hand within seconds. You're not going to carry around a laptop for those tasks, no matter how light/thin it is, as long as these smartphones are around. Hell I don't know even know where you got that analogy as much as pulling some Battlefield assumption out of nowhere. The original point was that the specs in that new Macbook was not worth its price. An old complaint against Apple, I know, but still an ongoing complaint since it's price point is at $1300 for rather low specs and all in the name of it being light and thin.

Vihan Bhargava Macs do slow down, but just like a $600 PC, it would be due to the PEBCAK malware. I could use a $600 computer to perform every everyday task you'd perform on that overpriced MacBook, and it won't slow down a bit, simply 'cause I think b4 I click. If you're just ignoramus and click through all the warnings from your web browser, Windows SmartScreen filter, Windows Defender, and USER Account control, that's not a problem with Windows PCs, that's you being ignoramus. The end result will be similar (your computer getting screwed) regardless if using a Mac or a PC. Learn to think before you click, and you won't see a need to waste that extra $700 for "everyday tasks"...

Vihan Bhargava If it's so annoying to you, no one asked you to respond to my comment. You could have easily just ignored it if it's so "annoying" to you. You're not an idiot for liking Macs, what is idiotic is ignoring what the competition offers for your money and just going to buy whatever has a specific branding. In this case, there's no justifying this with other Mac hardwares available, and especially not with competition like the Surface Pro on the market...but hey it's you and your money being separated like a fool :)

MrElectrifyer Okay, I'll bite. I was a huge Apple fan, I got tired and disillusioned. I basically said "why the fuck did I pay $1,000 for a 1080p 6+?". Here's what I did, I sold my rMBP, and I sold my 6+. I then went and bought a Surface Pro i7/8/512. I then had so many heating and screen problems (two replaced SP3's) that I decided I couldn't do it. Seriously, windows 8.1 is a fucking MESS. Then, I decided to get an LG G4, and it overheated within an hour of owning it. Needless to say, I'm back with Apple. I'm buying the 2015 Macbook, but I stack discounts on Black Friday, so all in all I'll probably pay $1000 before tax for the $1600 one. Then, I'm building a hackintosh.
