I have had the same problem with my Ltd Silverado since I have had it. It’s nuts. Amazing how whatever warranty you purchase it never covers your problem. This should be covered FOC regardless. It’s a widespread problem. Bad business

Mine is doing this too. I'm glad I found your video - I didn't think to use the knob to make selections. Now at least I can change my language back to English! lol!

I've been dealing with this issue as well!! So annoying! It even hangs up my Bluetooth phone calls.. ive been looking for a used replacement screen from junk yards.. There's all kinds of aftermarket units available, but I like the OEM look..

I had the same problem with my 2018 Tahoe. Sometimes the touch screen worked fine then sometimes it would act like you described and worse. This is what I did to "solve" or at least stop it from happening. I have a touch button ignition. What I do is when I first enter the vehicle I wait for the logo that shows on the touch screen to disappear then push the ignition button to "On" without touching the brake pedal. This allows the vehicle to turn on without starting the vehicle. Then I once again wait for the logo that shows on the touch screen to disappear and then I simply start my vehicle. My touch screen acts "normal" again. It's worked for me every time and it has allowed me to cancel my new $850 (plus $300 to install it) touch screen that I ordered from the dealership. I hope this helps any and everyone who has had issues with these touch screens that I believe should have been recalled.

I'm in the same seat with my 2015 Texas Edition C1500. Almost 100k miles so its probably reached its life cycle. Sound like an after market system for me. 1k to buy another stock system or a few hundred after market. Yuup my wifes 2018 is still good but she still babies her truck. The 03 HD no issues. Makes me wonder and one of my reasons for older models on anything because all those issues have been addressed. Thank You Sir. Going shopping

Try this. I had a problem with my 2015 Tahoe radio changing stations and scanning by its self. I removed the radio fuse for a couple of minutes and then reinstalled the fuse and the radio reset. Fixed.

@@royerukan5760 Located on the right side of the dash. open the passenger door to access. If you look in your owners manual, it will tell you which fuse.

Same thing happened to my truck 2015 Silverado with 85k. I’ve had more problems with his truck than all the trucks I’ve ever owned. Never again would I buy a Chevy product. I have changed AC condensers airbag sensors brake rotors at 30,000 and I don’t even tow anything. And when you talk to Chevy oh that’s not covered it’s not under warranty or we never had that happen.

My 2015 sivlerado has the same issue and I can't adjust my chime volume which is full blast but I can calibrate but it never fixes the middle screen dead zone.

My friend has a 2015 GMC Sierra truck. On satellite station interrupted by a voice saying audio command. an interrupts in the middle of listening to music it's annoying how do you stop that?

Fortunately my 17 canyon screen started acting up at 31k (false inputs like something is touching the screen when nothing is).. fortunately I'm under warranty and the dealership I bought it from will try to see if there is a software upgrade or replace it outright.. may just have to swap it out with an aftermarket head unit if it fails again out of warranty or get rid of the damn truck

I had the same issue on my 2015 Silverado. I cleaned the screen with cleaner on a soft paper towel. I didn't spray the screen directly but dampened the paper towel. It's been three weeks now and so far it hasn't acted up at all. Could it be that simple?

Same thing on mine. Thanks to the people who posted some tips, going to give some if them a try and see if that helps!

I've tried a couple of KZread supposed fixes but nothing helps, my Silverado started this crap at 33k, now I am just under 36k. Warranty expired as time ran out. GM should do something about this, there are boatloads of consumers with the same problem. Shouldn't happen to a $55k vehicle. I'm going back to Toyotas.

Every so often, my icon screen changes its display on its own AND at times the touch screen does not work when I want to select something; whether it is changing a channel or selecting an icon (radio, maps, etc.) I brought it in three times already and they have changed the battery, updated the system through a usb port and replaced a fuse. I have an extended electrical warrantee. Why can't they replace the whole unit, obviously there is something wrong with the touch screen.

I can't calibrate screen because it responds to left dot touch but not right

My 2017 radio has never worked right. Now its stuck on select language screen & won't go anywhere. Dealers have no clue.

Well, this is not the thread I wanted to read. My truck is at the dealer as I type (getting two recalls fixed) and having them check the haywire touch screen. My screen does most of these shenanigans (2015 Silverado). Mine is partial to jumping to the ‘set clock’ screen or sometimes the ‘program stations’ screen. Half the time the screen is unresponsive to touch and I have to hit a physical button (media/radio) to undo it. Then, once I clear it, 5 seconds later it jumps back to the set screens and we have a battle. Then, sometimes it’s fine for 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 10 days... It slips my mind until it acts up again. It always does seem to happen when it’s very hot & humid with sun beating down. Maybe I’m imagining that but when it’s acting up, that always seems to be the case. My other question for my fellow sufferers, is does this only affect your center touch screen or does your small digital screen in your main instrument cluster also screw up? Because mine does. I always have it on my main info screen on the MPH. When my main touch screen starts getting squirrelly, my instrument cluster often does, too. It almost always just shoots to radio station/podcast info from my speed screen. I have to hit ‘back’ and scroll up to ‘info’ and hit ‘enter’. Then that often does the same thing. Every few seconds it defaults back to radio info, reset, repeat. The thing about this is that the problem is not the same on both screens. My main screen will be on the ‘set clock’ and my instrument cluster screen will jump to the media info from my MPH. It’s maddening. I’m going to keep mentioning to Chevy how someone is going to die in an accident trying to reset their malfunctioning screen. Maybe that will jolt them awake.

Same problem with my 2015 Silverado 1500. I try to keep my instrument panel set to MPH and randomly the stereo/radio/media info takes over. Sometimes immediately, sometimes a few seconds, sometimes minutes. And the touchscreen does the haywire thing where it jumps to set clock, etc. Also, I get a weird thing where the bottom row of touch "buttons" that have radio preset stations, slide up and cover most of the screen. Sometimes they bounce up and down really fast. Sometimes it stays there. Every once in a while, it'll let me drag it down to the bottom of the screen. A car stereo store recommended that I disconnect the battery for 24 hours to let it clear up, kind of a "unplug it and plug it back in" approach. Tried that and it didn't help.

PLEASE SEND HELP Any solutions on how to fix this? If the only solution is to change the screen head unit, are there any recommendations someone has tried and works well? How will an aftermarket screen head unit interface with the AC/Heater controls like the OME radio screen does? As in when you turn up the fan speed knob, the fan speed is projected on the radio screen for a a few seconds.

I have had the exact same issue with mine. Dealer can’t fix it. We should write to GM. Mine broke under warranty and now I’m out of warranty and it still doesn’t work after the dealer tried to fix this.

I have a 2018 Silverado and same shit. Pissed me off I thought I did something after installing my subs and amps but I see it’s just a problem for the truck. Bin in the market to buy one off line but at this point I might go with an kenwood or alpine 🤷‍♂️

Mine did the same thing. Reseat the HMI blue connector on the computer behind the top glove compartment. That solved my problem. Works better and more responsive than it was from the factory.

@@weaverswandering972 look up videos on changing your HMI module on your silverado or gmc. I did an upgrade on my 2015 silverado so I would have Android Auto/Apple carplay. It's really easy to get to. Just a few screws to take out to remove the glove box. Then you will have to basically lay down on the floor board and work upwards to the HMI. I believe there are 4 different wire harnesses that are all color coded. Look for the blue one and disconnect it and reinsert it.

My 2017 GMC Sierra is doing this same thing. I used to be able to pull the fuse behind the passenger door and it would reset the radio and it would work OK until the next time I shut the truck off. Now that won't even work. Just a bluish/black screen. This is a widespread problem, but two dealers I've been to acted as if they've never heard of this issue. It's BS, every other GM truck owner I talk to has this issue! GM needs to recall these vehicles, it is faulty equipment.

I will say this is my last GMC! This screen problem started right after the warranty expired! Dealer says 900.00 to fix. If you look at all the KZread videos…even that is no guarantee! Turn the dang thing completely off and be taken back to before all this technology! Saves money and sanity!

Mine just jumps around from screen to screen even in the drivers section it does the same thing . It jumps on the big screen and little screen

how about the extended warranty will that cover this problem?, mine does the same thing as well, when i let gmc dealer know they act as if the first time they hear about it. Im like if you google it seem all gm truck have same problem

Exactly what I told them, but they have the whole problem and answer scripted out for them like a bunch of robots. I've taken mine to 3 different dealerships and you'd swear you are dealing with the same technician. Got to give them credit at least they cover for each other's asses. Good luck buddy. PS** Did you buy EXT Warranty from GMC or third party? You might be better off with third party. Mine was with GMC and the radio/IntellliLink was not covered only engine transmission etc. Good luck

@@gitano1959 I did buy it from GMC, but it seems its one of their 3rd party they use, i was told by warranty company it will be cover, but the couple of times of taken truck in they tell me theres no code to scan so they can diagnosed the problem. Dealer tech. has seen the screen go crazy but advise since there's no code coming out they cant let ext warranty what problem is.

Hear me out. They can hook up to these trucks from anywhere with internet. I had warranty that covered all this to 100k and not one single issue with my 2017 Denali. Just hit over 100k and guess what kind of issues I’m having. Business is dirty. Anything for money. There’s been states busted for shortening the yellow light on lights with a red light camera. Shortened it by tenths of a second. Just enough where they thought people wouldn’t notice. And that’s our own government let alone a private company.

Same problem with 2017 Silverado. Dealer kept saying we can't find anything wrong with it. Really.... They kicked the can down the road until the warranty ran out. Can you say Toyota please

My has been doing this for a while why isn't gm taking care of this. Took it in before warranty was up and said they fixed it nope then I was just over warranty Mi and they wouldn't cover knowing damn well what it was. Second new truck with in five years and still wouldn't cover it. F@@ GM!!!!

Good thing I still have my 1999 Sony transistor radio ($11.00) .... Buying Japanese from here out.

At Dealer now as I type this. Mine starting doing this literally as I was driving to the dealer for service on another matter. Service advisor claims this is a known hot weather issue (Florida) causing the screen to delaminate….$900 please….

My Chevy doesn't same thing middle of the screen not working to go to a junkyard and get one out of a truck it's been crashed much cheaper put it in myself it's only a plugin play

I got the same issue. I try to turn the display off in the settings(so it won't change stations/etc on its own).. but then it turns the screen back on by itself and then changes stations on its own..... Have you solved this issue with any of the suggestions? Planning on trying the fuse reinstall, cable behind the glove box, and the g218 fuse fixes. (2015 sierra 1500)

I have the same make and model then I unplugged the blue wire and it still didn’t fix anything… I think it’s a faulty screen bc it hits in the same section every time. I believe it’s from always being roughed in the same spot so many times… I dunno just a thought…

I figured out that the jumping display is directly affected by the blue tooth trying to sync with my cellphone. When I turn off the phone Bluetooth the screen stops jumping but still have dead spot to touch in the middle of the screen.

Just replaced my digitizer $350.00 including labor. No more issues

check your alternator. My voltage regulator was going out and caused mine to do all sorts of crazy shit. changed the alternator and now works fine.

Thanks for your input man! I just took the thing in to the dealer and they said a software update may fix the issue. That did not work. The solution by the dealer is replace the screen about $750 + labor $500 for a total of $1250. Not happy. The alternator option not even up for discussion. I may do it in the future but not with holidays around the corner. Thanks again.

I was having the same issue. I unplugged my battery terminal and let it reset, recalibrated my screen successfully. I couldn't get through even the first circle push on the recalibration screen before. Now everything works normally. Time will tell if it happens again.

Hmmmm my screens been acting up lately, and my altenator just started acting up yesterday 2018 5.3 silverado 37K miles. I'll hold off on the screen for now and see whats up with my altenator first. Good tip. I'll let you know if I had the same issue.

@@zacharywatson1458 when they changed my cabin filter at some point, they broke the connector to my radio/dash. That was the problem. I haven't fixed it, but I rotated it and taped it. It hasn't given me a problem since doing so. I understand that is a common issue when they change the cabin filter.

WITH TRUCK OFF clean the screen really really good, get ALL fingerprints , etc anything that might be on the screen cleaned off, this solved my problem with the ghost changing anything problem

I've tried this and had no luck. I have taken to the dealership where they've updated the software to the latest firmware and still nothing. Ultimately their answer is always the same: " You need a new screen and it ain't cheap" Thanks for your suggestion though.

Yeah man I feel your pain. GMC has a looser with this screen type as I know many owners with similar issues and no fix from GMC. This is especially frustrating if your warranty has run out.

I’ve had the same problem on my 2015 LTZ for about a year now. Erratic phantom touch responses occurring in the center, but non responsive to actual selections and can’t calibrate the center point. Took off the head unit off yesterday and tried reseating all the cables, including the ribbon cables under the back cover, and problem remains. Probably going to buy a new OEM screen from dealer or used on eBay.

@@Maree_23 A new touch screen or a complete display unit would be the fix you need. Touch screen replacement is a little tricky for a novice, but a full display unit is plug-n-play. If your ‘19 Z71 is still under warranty, I’d start with the dealership first before any diy fixes.

My 2017 Chevy does it. So annoying!

My uncle had a 2016 GMC Canyon & this exact same thing started about a year ago. Unfortunately he died last month before getting it fixed. When i got his truck last month, i called the dealership soon after, i was told this problem is very common but they couldn't fix it without a $170.00 diagnostics check 1st. I asked how much it would cost worst case scenario to get this well known problem fixed & the guy said he didn't know. The guy also said that more often than not it's a software issue & not a hardware issue, so once the software is re-installed the touchscreen will be new again. I again asked how much it would cost to get the software re-installed & the guy again said he didn't know. This truck is a 2016 & only has as of today 09/09/2022 57,028 miles on it which is very low & the dealership says they can't touch it or fix it without getting paid for it. We The People should file a Class Action Lawsuit against GMC for not voluntarily fixing this & other well known problems their products have!

I didn't. The dealer has updated the software for the whole IntelliLink system with no results. The problem is with the screen itself which I guess is better than the whole thing (RADIO, CD PLAYER, NAV SYSTEM ETC) being trashed but still expensive to fix. The only official fix from GMC so far (my experience) is to have them replace the screen at my cost plus labor. MEGA $$$. I will deal with it for now until there's a cheaper option but for now I turn the whole thing OFF.

Sergio I had mine changed out to new one. Second one is even worse. 1 week out of warranty on second one. I’m not paying $1,200 for it to go out again. They acted like they never heard of issue. BS. I showed video of my truck IN the RED SEA on navigation. NEAT TRICK MY TRUCK CAN SWIM!!! Best to find after market or used system.

@@SINGLEDADFREE You got it right Robert. Your in your vehicle and you suddenly see your information touch screen going crazy. Just changing events all on it’s own. Before you start dismantling anything, ask yourself. When was the last time you gave the screen a proper cleaning? That is, with an Anti-Static Alcohol Free Electronic Cleaning Wipe! Duh! Well OK Man,,, what’s that got to do with anything? There are basically two types of touch screens. Resistive and Capacitive. The Resistive type uses pressure of any kind against the screen to effect action. These are the type touch screens most often used outdoors. Such as for an ATM machine. They can get wet and still work. However, they are not very bright. The Capacitive type touch screen as used inside your vehicle is of hard glass with high resolution and works only (believe it or not) through your bodies static electricity passing through your finger as it touches the screen. It will not work with any other instrument. Even if wearing any sort of glove. A big reminder for those living up north. In time, your screen becomes saturated with oily finger printed skin cells. Added to that, is the chemical fowl air coming off interior upholstery that collects not only on your inner windshield but also on the touch screen, as most of the time your vehicle is totally enclosed. So now, when you enter your car or truck, your bodies static electricity (in the air) is sensed by all the screens contaminants and starts to make the system go bananas. You haven’t even touch the screen, but your finger tip prints are all over it. It’s almost like you have some crazy ghost rider touching your screen. But no, it’s really you with dozens of your own ghost fingers already on the screen. So, what the hell's going on here? In physics, it’s a phenomenon called a quantum leap or simply static induction. A totally different topic above most pay grades. As a side note. Remember the warning! Mostly for women! Never go back into your car for something while pumping gas. When you come back out, your body is full of static electricity. Re-touching the gas pump discharges that electricity which can cause a small spark igniting the gas fumes. Puff! You’ve now become a widower.. So remember, in cleaning your info screen, use the moist Anti-Static Electronic Wipe vertically, horizontally, and well along the screens edges and then LET IT AIR DRY. Well OK man,,,, why not just use windex or some other type glass cleaner. Well Dude, listen up, you might get away with that for awhile, at least until it causes your next type failure. BTW. Your cell phone works the same way. If it starts to make ghost phone calls while sitting in you pocket, it may well be time for the same type cleaning! Happy camping....
