2015 F-150 2.7l cold start. Smoke?

2.7l EcoBoost exhaust with start up. White smoke or condensation? I’ve heard it’s “normal” but is this excessive?

Ecoboosts, as well as many other GDI (gasoline direct injected) engines run rich at cold start, which causes more exhaust vapor. The 2.7 and 3.5 Ecoboosts are especially notorious for it. I have a 2019 3.5 and it'll draw attention when it gets well below freezing. Last winter, I had coworkers tell me that my new truck was "smoking" a lot when I would start it up after work. Lol. Its normal and nothing to worry about.

Mine does it as well and also the company I work for, has the same truck like mine also does the same thing but only during cold weather only. Anything below 47f will do it due to the condensation in the exhaust

@@calipat12 10 months and about 20k miles later, I'm still happily driving the same truck with no issues to report, unless you count excessive tire wear. My truck is tuned and is at about 500hp, currently. My dad hasn't had a single issue in 60k miles with his 2015 3.5 ecoboost. My coworker has a 200k mile 2012 3.5 ecoboost f150 that's only had a couple of minor issues along the way. All 3 of these trucks emit some serious water vapor out of the tailpipe in cold weather. It's normal for these engines, to a certain extent. If you're seeing exhaust vapors when it is 80f outside though, you've got a problem.

Water vapor. If you ever smell coolant though, have it pressure tested. If it won’t hold pressure, check upper cylinders for coolant leak.

V8, Coyote, Raptor, whatever. They are too heavy and slow. 2.7l twin turbo V6 Ecoboost will leave you in the dust.
