    My dad's 2013 3.5 ecoboost is doing this on his 2nd engine since the first blew head gaskets or something at about 95k. Turbos started chirping and wastegates flopping. It died on the road and barely ran. I went to check it out, and pulling the pcv tubes off the intake looked like a constant nitrous purge out of the crankcase, lol. It ran smoother, but two freight train style oil geysers blowing everywhere is bad! I'm not sure if it's the same thing as you had, but it sounds similar. Thought a turbo was bad, but the crankcase is extremely pressurized.... leading me to believe metal somewhere broke, lol.

    Initial thoughts, PCV check valve, if these have one, may have gotten stuck open under boost forcing a bunch of crank case pressure into the turbo… ???

    I'm having the same issue on my truck, same engine, same year. I got it inspected by the dealership and multiples shops, no one found any issue in my truck. No lights, no codes, a lot of black smoke, miss firing, lack of power. Everything that you had on your truck I'm facing it on mine now.

    I had this issue. Same year model and engine as yours, it was the driver side turbo. Had a coolant leak internally and would smoke out the whole neighborhood in the mornings, I would get power train malfunction lights on the dash and the code would read P-0299 for turbocharger underboost. I changed both of them and the problem went with them. Hope this helps

    Same symptoms on my 2015 f150! Now I have a slow coolant leak that's non visible and 50% turbo power. So I checked the intercooler like you did, same same with the oil in it. Only difference in the whole scenario is I did have oil loss. Only during that ONE event😅. Now it's fine and steady.

    I have a 2016 F-150 same issue but I don’t lose power. But the smoke (blue/black) is so bad I have to get it fixed because people literally would not be able to see behind me and the plume is long behind me. It stops and I’m able to continue driving but lord. A shop looked at my turbos and said the shaft and fins were ok and not a lot of oil. It happens infrequently I have no loss of oil or pressure no check engine lights. I have replaced my PCV but I’m not expecting a fix by a $12 part. The shop replaced my drivers side oil supply line but again that is supposed to be a fix for a cold start blue smoke issue and the big issue happened since that supply line was installed, so that had no effect either. Ford…a little help here!

    Don't know if you fixed your issue. I have same truck and exact same thing happened to me. I found Ford TSB 20-2207 that provides that issue was the Left Turbo Oil Supply Tube. I replaced that part and so far seems to have fixed problem. We shall see

    Mine was definitely oil burning. I've found some articles that show the turbo as the failure even though the seals aren't leaking. Makes sense I guess

  • @nicholas2932
    @nicholas2932 Жыл бұрын

    im sure you fixed the issue by now, you seem way smarter than me over this subject. but if i put my thinking cap on, i'd be looking at doing that 1/8 drill hole in the intercooler mod... the engine sucked up oil that was collecting in the intercooler i assume. so i'd imagine providing a weep hole would bandaid the problem. still gonna leak but the oil is cheap, tow trucks are not... just my theory.. lol I had a problem on my old 03 f150 where if you were to "lug" the truck on the highway the AC would switch from the vents to the defrost. back off the throttle or down shift and it would come back out the vents. blew my mind as a 17yld but it turned out to be some vacuum hose.

    I looked into a weep hole as a temp fix. Unfortunately the problem got worse. The turbos had not failed and the seals were not leaking. Something in the engine had failed causing too much oil to collect in the intercooler for the weep hole to handle. I no longer have the truck and never got around to resolving the issue. Wish I would have so I knew the cause but I had a 1994 f250 diesel land in my lap so I made that my daily and unloaded the 2015

    @@greasyboykustoms You really don't want to be drilling a 'weep hole'. The turbocharger creates positive pressure, aka BOOST. Drilling a hole anywhere between turbo and throttle-body creates a leak, which will cause your turbos to work harder than intended to maintain target boost. Guaranteed way to blow the turbo. Invest in a catch can to remove the unwanted vapors/oil.

    Probably a similar problem. White smoke can also mean coolant burning but with the problems these wco boost twin turbos are having , I'd say something with the turbos like a failed seal. You can install a catch can and that may help. I'd check your intercooler and see if there is excessive oil in it.

    Nope. The problem persisted. I don't have the truck anymore. I found others had success with turbo replacement. It's odd. My seals weren't leaking, and the turbo was mechanically sound, but apparently, the turbo was sucking oil from the crank case, which can happen when turbos fail

    I would install a oil catch can, this will help. I have one in my 2.7. But you are going to get blow by- that’s normal on turbo engines and it will collect in the intercooler. I would drill a small hole in your intercooler. 2nd, It could be the oil lines in the turbos. They have a tendency to back up causing excessive oil burn off.

    Your seals are blown out.. that’s all. $400 replacement turbo, few hours of work, good to go. Yall got money for extravagant vacations but not car service. Anyone who thinks you should be able to hop in a vehicle and run 160k miles and never have an issue, shouldn’t own a vehicle. Uber instead. It happens. Maintenence and replacement parts are a must. You all know what to expect when purchasing a turbo charged vehicle. More moving parts, more potential issues.. not trying to be rude, but let’s be honest.
