This is the best car review I've ever watched so far, informative, perspicuous, well organized and ingenuously delivered. I appreciate that you took the time explain each part under the hood and the suspension system. No one else seems bothering doing this.

Hao Liu I agree, it is a good car review. Although to be fair, I think the reason most reviews don't spend a third of the time explaining the mechanics and what's under the hood of the car is because the vast majority of car owners these days tend to leave that sort of stuff to professional mechanics and dealerships. Especially if they've just spent $60k on a new vehicle. Most car manufacturers these days actually void their 3 year warranty on new cars if owners dare to mess around with anything under the hood. Useful info for independent mechanics though nonetheless.

I'm a bit late chiming in here, but the primary purpose of the engine arm at the top isn't to stop torquing movement, its to help the engine submarine in a crash. As the engine moves rearward that arm pushes it downwards, before it starts impacting the firewall.

Your elbow was sitting on the phone compartment which also has usb and audio plug connections

Great and thorough review, nice to see someone who actually knows more about engines than your average interior/exterior reviews.

It's really refreshing to see a review made by someone who actually knows the car. Most simply don't. Nice job.

awesome review! you did a lot of things that other youtube car reviews didnt do. Things such as showing engine & suspension components really make it more interesting to watch

A thing you (might have intentionally or unintentionally ) missed, is Volvos focus rust treatment. Wheel arches always have plastic inner screen, the doors has been treated with wax(look for holes with a plastic cork in it), the bottom of the car has been rust treated and engineered with rust protection in mind. It may not be a deciding factor in California, but in Canada or a Nordic country where i live, it's defiantly a deciding factor. Generally (due to regional differences, and thereby differences in the focus on developing the car) cars from Germany, France and Norway and Sweden tend to have a good rust protection, while cars from japan.... well that's another story. French cars has not good rust protection. The new peugeot 508 for example got 2 of 5 point for rust protection of a testing company in sweden.

I really like how you show everything on the cars, and where the vents go and stuff.

in the end of the Video you mentioned lack of space for small things, there is a shelf behind the console, its easy to miss but there's quite a large area behind that panel, where you can put keys etc, its not the easiest to reach but can easily be missed or forgotten :) I recently crashed and totaled my XC60 T6 R design and I must say the car really did its job, all airbags deployed and I made it with sore muscles the day after ,Volvo 4 life! Nice review by the way!

Great review! Also, the position of the interior door handles are ideal. Too many car manufacturers place this position too close to the front of the door. The problem with this is that when opening the door from the inside to get out of the car, one struggles to 'catch' the door due to the weight of the door on the pivot, making close proximity parking lots are a nightmare. Volvo is on-the-money by placing the door handle closer to the middle, and horizontally. Allowing you to not only better control the swing of the opening door, but also giving you a comfortable reach when closing a fully opened door. We love Volvo because they pay attention to the simple and often overlooked aspects of the drive (long after the thrill of the new purchase has gone). Great review!!

An in-depth review. Brilliant. The only thing i'll add to the list of dislikes are the spongy brakes - was under the impression that they were faulty and changed them at service only to later come to know that the spongy feel are a norm. The wife's car so was comparing it with my bmw 5 brakes which are tight and does inspire confidence. btw with safety as the highest priority, volvo surely won't give you place to place your phone ;-) .....it even has rear child locks (window and door) that can be activated from the driver door panel and auto brakes on an impending collision when at low speed !!!

@@EngineeringExplained I have a car with it and one without it. Honestly, I prefer non-active. When trying to make progress, it often slows you imperceptibly from the speed limit. After a while, you wonder why you're going so slow. Hinders progress and is very frustrating on long journeys. Without it, you notice the speed differential approaching other vehicles from behind and can overtake to maintain best progress.

My largest worry about keyless entry and start is what if a battery dies or the key malfunction s and you are trapped out of the car. Good review.

Wow very detailed review

Those radars upfront also play a part in "emergency brake assist", basically the car will apply full braking power automatically if you don't apply the brakes before a collision!

This guy looks kind of like Benedict cumber batch xD just Saying. Love the vids, can't wait to see more integra mods! :D

It's interesting how all the manufactures you reviewed gas had a plastic intake manifold, but it makes sense; hell, even my college fsae team had a plastic intake manifold.

That little "kick down" feature is pretty common on European cars. My '03 Passat has it too. It's just a little button behind the gas pedal.

This guy needs A LOT more credit for these reviews! Just make a TV show already, haha!

There is a pouch in driver's seat at the front at least in my 2014 model. You can use that to put mobile phone :)

If you look up some videos of the 2015 Volvo XC90 at Paris, you'll find they did just that!

I remember years ago one of Volvo's main selling points was how "safe" their cars were. The frame and doors were supposed to be more reinforced, like sitting in a cage for more protection from a crash/accident. I don't hear anything about that any more, but was wondering if they are still superior in that aspect??? Great Review btw...your reviews are always superior and crash proof! lol

Yeah to this day Volvo are pioneers in safety but with all the regulations a lot of manufacturers are catching up and adopting the advancements

Many volvo cars today use roll cages so yes I guess they're still superior however like he ^ said other companies are advancing in that aspect as well.

They didn't go anywhere. I'm releasing videos more often now (incase that wasn't obvious). Car reviews are in addition, not instead of. I'll have videos next week explaining I5's, V10's, and testing the short ram intake. But the endless cycle of not satisfying some in a pond of 200,000 will continue. Doing my best!

Hey Jason, awesome video! At 11:58 when you were talking about a switch behind the accelerator; that's called a 'kickdown switch' and shifts the transmission into the next gear down when full throttle is activated. :)

no? 3l i6 gas engine. model is called T6. if it had a diesel engine, the top engine would be called D5

Our Volvo XC60 from 2011 has done 210'000 miles with no problems. Not even the hedlamps have broken down! This is in Sweden so the climat is not that nice to the car. The engine is a D3 with 163 hp and 400Nm.

Great car for you to review, this thing is kitted out.

our V40 has the same spot behind the center console but it has a rubberized hole/bucket thing. idk why they'd get rid of that for a newer car

Love this vehicle, but after driving the Audi SQ5, I decided to go with the less air like ride, for performance. I found after adding options to the Volvo it was getting close to SQ5 territory and as much as I like the Volvo, the Audi had the luxury feel, but also a different level of fun factor.

Hi mate. Now, before you become too famous and big on KZread so you are not able to respond to us ;) I wanted to make that one video suggestion I always wanted to see, and especially from you. You know how companies have like 5 same engines which provide power that varies (example - 2.0 155 hp, 2.0 200 hp and...) and not only that but usually with new models come the same engines but now slightly improved which now produce 5hp-20hp more than the series before, and without risking anything like, for example, how long an engine lasts. Now, I now about chargers but I would really like to see one video where you explain all (or at least some) ways of improving power in an engine. Hope I made it clear enough :) Cheers and thx

Great idea. A lot of money is to be made in midsize pickups based on crossover platforms. Pickup margins are huge compared to sedans.

I wish the XC90 came with the same buttons. Nothing more annoying and dangerous than having to take your eyes off the road, look at the massive touchscreen, find the air condition control, tap it, than move your finger to tap the fan speed. Totally dangerous and among the most idiotic things Volvo has ever done regarding safety/convenience design. This reviewer seems to thing buttons are a bad thing. Most intelligent people are more concerned with safety and convenience than big pretty bright screens .

A downside of Blind spot detection light being in the car instead of in the mirror is that it encourages drivers not to look at the mirror. A dangerous habit indeed.

I wonder if the 2016 xc60 will take the same body style of the new xc90 anyone know?

Yeah, a bit steep but this is fully equipped, there are certainly cheaper trims.

People are so finicky with buttons, there are a lot of technology today and people want to have the option to turn systems and functions on and off so there have to be many buttons for it... Packing it all in to a screen wouldn't make it any better or easier as it then would take a lot of clicking and turning through the menues to find everything. Many buttons are easier to learn than complicated menu layouts any day. It's not that bad compare to some and not that much worse than some. And outdated because it not touch buttons?? The main complaint is the amount of buttons and whether it's touch or not the amount would still be the same so then who cares? Also with touch there is greater risk of accidentally touch wrong buttons or multiple buttons like if you have thick fingers or when trying to press during a bumpy/shaky ride. People i say...

The thing is, those buttons are tiny too. And you have to scan with your eyes fur the buttons. You have to touch it and then rescan again for the next button. Because it is tiny, you tend to touch the wrong buttons. With touch screens, they are usually big. And easier to navigate. Scroll left or right, top or bottom, click or touch. Your choice. And you free up space on the center console for more convenient spaces or USB ports.

It keeps the engine movement away from the rest of the chassi. This way the car will vibrate less and won't rock back and forth as much at start up. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Volvo makes an XC60 that has a firmer ride and less roll. It's called "R Design".

It’s interesting that when reviewers review an SUV that is not sporty, they will say that people are not looking for a sports car in an SUV anyway, so the lack of sportiness is a good thing. Put these reviewers in a Cayenne, Macan, or DBX and they’ll wax lyrical about how these cars are SUVs that can do sportiness like a sports sedan and how they’re the best. Hmmm...

"It's an SUV, it's not a car" :D

Volvo traditionally mounts their engines transversally. Partly nowadays because most cars are still based upon FWD Ford vehicles.

Volvo says because there's more room for the crumple zones, plus, all of their platforms are FWD based, not RWD based. Reason for FWD-based platforms is that they handle better in snow, and generally have more predictable handling characteristics than RWD cars.

This or the 2015 Dodge Durango, I don't really care for the Durangos 3 rows of seats. I mainly care about reliability and exterior looks.

only difference I see between this and the 2010 model is the gauge cluster. As far as the seats, yeah they're nice, but a little on the hard side. If you want the softest seats in the world, go for the 2003+ XC70, S60. Those seats should be against the law, it's like a lazy boy for everyone in your car. But the XC60 takes the cake on looks.

I don't know the center console entertainment design where it's mainly focus on the driver. The driver needs to pay attention to the road!!

It's a push/pull latch that's to the left below the headlight switch. It saves quite a bit of space in the console.

lovely car, just a shame you cant get it with a proper manual gearbox rather than one that takes so long to respond.
