2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Test Drive Video Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

www.autobytel.com/ford/focus/2... Technically the Ford Focus is an American car since it's built in Michigan and sold all over the U.S. Really though you should think of the Focus as a European model. If you buy a Ford Focus in Europe there are a bunch of different gas and diesel engine options to choose from. Here in the U.S. the only available choice is a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder that makes 160 horsepower and 146 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy is 26 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway. The base price on the Ford Focus is $16,800 and the SE Sedan model tested here goes for $18,615.
Ford offers the Focus with an automatic or a manual transmission. One concession that was made for the American market was the fact that a sedan model is being offer. The car is still a compact so there is not a ton of room in the back seat. The bottom seat cushion is supportive and there is descent leg room.
The 2014 Ford Focus does drive well. The Steering is wonderful and precise, the chassis is outstanding with great body control, and the 160 HP engine is adequate.

The only reason why you weren't able to listen to the radio was because it was in "Phone mode" Press the end button which is the fourth button on the very bottom that matches with the SYNC screen that says "End". That would exit the phone mode and go back to radio mode.

I own 2014 Ford Focus sedan just like that blue only red body color. 103k miles and still running. Downside is power shift is weak. Yet, it’s still strong and 28 mpg city 32 highway. It’s also a automatic. Sedans trunk space is amazing. I plan to buy a new power shift and keep my car!

Honestly not sure if I just had luck but it took me one sitting to figure the radio and sync feature.. Then again read the owners manual how to lol I'm at 28.4 miles per gallon... The gps, blue tooth and reverse alert sound when I get near objects is awesome..... Just took it for its first oil change and everything was checked off great

After owning this car for four months I seriously love this car! It's not perfect and I'm ok with that but it's so much fun to drive. I've learned how to drive that car with the automatic transmission well to the point you don't notice how odd it may feel. It does just fine in the snow too. But with the A/C on its a little jumpy to me only complaint. Backseat is small but people rarely ride back there with me so not really an issue and the hatchback room is amazing

I am havin a hard time grieving with the total loss of mine a week ago. I LOVE my car and was the second owner... it came to me at 30K miles from the first owner. I want my car back but need to replace her and am being so picky. Nothing I see I like as much as her. She was a great looking car and still looked and drove amazing even at 8 years old. I felt like we looked perfect together. So many of the other cars look the same and have a mean, kinda ugly, looking "face".

I own a 2012 Hatch with the DCT. At the first 5K I had to have the transmission re-flashed because to the "jitters". I now have about 30,000 miles and the transmission has been great. Once I learned how to use the sport shift, this car is very fun to drive. I also have Sync and I have not had any problems figuring this system out, or with the system responding correctly. I am also AVERAGING 34.7 MPG! LOVE IT. Nice job Ford..

I have a 2014 Ford Focus SE 5 speed hatchback on order with the Sport package (so I get aluminum wheels and disc brakes). Like the tester says it is a great car for people who actually enjoy driving, not just for transportation, and the reason I bought one. I don't know why people whine about panel controls or electronics cos it is just a matter of acclimation over time (and actually reading the owner's manual). Also manual transmissions are very refined these days with slick shifting and a light clutch. The 5-speed in my current 1998 V-6 Contour is still working flawlessly at 280,000 kms with the original clutch. Manuals are fun and give you accurate control over the engine, while automatics are just transportation (although great in gridlock traffic). -Why people want to drive those gas-guzzling heavy monstrous SUVs and pick-ups (usually with one person in the vehicle) is beyond me; lightness and fine handling makes for much more enjoyable driving.

The Focus gets a lot of crap, but I don’t understand why. I love how the screens aren’t basic and how the signals and chimes aren’t boring, and all the design ques are fun and exciting. My Focus SE Hatch is my favorite compact, and if I’m driving it right and get lucky with about 2 or 3 red lights, it can pull off 46 mpg. Not to mention of course how Ford did a great job of making a cheap car feel nice. Sporty handling, responsive steering with no vagueness, and even customizable ambient lighting. So price of a boring car, handling of a sports car, and touches of a luxury car. I love it.

Update; have been driving my new black Focus SE (with Sport package) for a month now and love it. People should really consider the manual transmission; light clutch and slick shifting, lots of fun (also saves $1000 over the automatic). The 6 speaker sound system is surprisingly good; crisp highs and even subwoofer bass; especially nice with my Ipod plugged into the USB. Easy to control the Ipod with the steering wheel buttons. -The tester should really read the manual before spending so much time criticizing the infotainment system which works beautifully. Wonderful engine; good torque on take-off quiet and smooth. Hit 160 kmph in 4th on the highway quickly. A K&N cold air intake kit and Magnaflow exhaust system (to open up the top end) would be a sweet addition in the future. Steering response (electric power steering rack) and handling are amazing considering this is not supposed to be a sports car. Ride is taut but not rough; perfect on bumpy roads. Big thick sway bars front and back; car stays very flat around corners. Just changed out the engine oil to full synthetic with new filter at 1600 kms and the engine sounds so nice. Car has full corrosion protection; electronic and undercoating. How sweet it is!

Your Focus you test drove must have been messed up when it comes to that radio because my wife and I just took delivery of our 2014 SE Focus and on to the left and right of the Lock and Unlock button are two buttons each with lines on them and those are how you get to your BlueTooth, Line in etc. I had my phone synced to mine and hit bluetooth and it connected to my music and then I hit Radio and the radio came right on with no issues. Maybe it was just the car you had that had an issue going on that needed to be fixed. I had no idea of what those buttons to the left and right of the Unlock and Lock button until my sales guy showed me and it's super easy once you get the hang of it. I love how the Car drives and am very happy with it.

Weird not seeing that on the steering wheel. as far as the electronics go, there not hard at all to operate. I Have the auto & it take some getting use to, but its extremely quick & smooth in shifts. When you buy an automatic, it has driver adapt/ to adapt to how you drive everyday.

I have a different take. My father bought a 2012 Focus brand new (same car as the 2014), and I had to borrow it for a weekend. I will agree that it handles quite well, but that's where the rave reviews stop. First there is the acceleration. Maybe it would be deemed adequate for an elderly driver, but I found the engine to be noisy and underpowered. Then there's the brakes. They actually stop quite well once you get used to them, but the power assist is incredibly overboosted, which makes the brake pedal very touchy---you have to learn to feather the brakes in this car. Then there's the quality (or should I say, lack of). From Day 1, the upshifts were jarring, and there would be a sort of crunching noise from the transmission---we later found that it was due to leaking seals, which Ford issued a recall for. Overall, I was unimpressed.

I'm a owner of a 2012 Focus SEL w/ 56k miles on it and I love this car. I've had zero problems and the power shift transmission (DCT) rocks. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't want any other transmission. See I love manual transmissions, and I understand how dual clutches work and how they should feel. Now, not all dual clutches are made the same, but they all have the same characteristics. Ford uses a dry unit on the focus for less maintenance, while VW's wet clutch units have to be serviced. Either way, no DCT will ever feel like a regular torque converted transmission. This is why ill-informed drivers of this car complain about the way it shifts. For those who own this car, use premium fuel. It enhances your performance, and gives you better mpg. Your throttle response will become instant and it smooths out the shifts of the transmission.

***** I'm sorry my friend. The 2012 Focus runs ok on regular fuel. It's on steroids with premium. It's that big of a difference. Trust me. Everytime I fill the tank up with regular unleaded, it feels slow and shifts are noticeably harsher. Then I'll refill it with premium and all is right in my world. Yes premium is thirty to forty cents more, but I average 2 to 3 mpg better. Also, with regular fuel, you can hear the engine more, but with premium it's muted. Yes it drives fine on regular unleaded fuel, and this is what Ford advertises to get people to buy it, but make no mistake; this car has a 12:1 compression ratio. It requires premium. This is why it says "Premium fuel will provide improved performance", in the owners manual.

By the way some dealers offer 4-6k discounts on these so a good SE with manual transmission can be had for around 17k. Hit the sync button, say "cancel phone" and then you can select anything you want. Once you are in the phone menu, you have to tell it to cancel the phone to get to another menu, yes it's kind of annoying, but at least you won't accidentally change from one source to another when you don't mean to.

The transmission is "Intelligent" it learns how you drive. If you have only had it for a month or two... give it time. Mine was like that and no problems since. Now if this continues even almost a year after you bought it take it to ford and they need to send a new signal to the motherboard controlling the transmission and it should reset it. I bought a manual version of the Focus for my daughter. Low mileage 2012. The car handles great, rides great, has good mileage, power, and a comfortable interior. My only complaint is the goofy radio. First, it is impossible to figure out all the bizarre controls. Second, it was tin can sound. Third, the AM reception is abysmal. I doubt it can be replaced with an aftermarket radio, because of its weird shape. Even my other car, the lowball Suzuki SX4 base model, has a much better radio. Ford needs to get rid of this ridiculous radio. I haven't even bothered trying do the phone synch routine. But other than the radio, everything about this car is superb.

It's a huge problem with the transmission. Go to your dealer and ask them to perform the latest TSB and flash your TCM with the latest update. Also ask them to give you revision F clutch assembly.

Sheena Davis I have a 2014, and I took mine in twice for the transmission. I have been experiencing some shaking and shuttering like many other 2012-2014 Focus owners have. The last time I took it in I was told the transmission was recalled and I'll be getting a new clutch assembly in a few weeks when the parts come in.

I just got rid of my 2010 Ford Focus SES. It had 67 thousand miles on it. I cant speak to this car 4 yrs newer, but I will never buy a Ford car again. My SES was top of the line. Leather, sunroof, low profile tires etc. It was all really cheap feeling. I know cars are more plastic now as well. The doors though felt as if there was nothing to them. Not solid at all. The ride was rough. Give it that it was fun to drive when you pushed the gas and had a sporty feel. Although when you really may want comfort on a day to day basis. This car made me tired. I looked at this new Focus and looked at the Chevy Cruze LT. I went with the Cruze LT hands down for me. It felt more solid. Looks cam be debated. My wife thought the Focus I had was like a go kart. She told me after I sold. The Cruze isn't as stylish. More conservative, but I thinknit will look better in the years to come. The seats feel better and all in all I like it more. Just my 2 cents. Whatever you choose I would suggest taking at least a week and look at both cars or whatever car your wanting and wait it out and see what would you andbykur lifestyle better. The Cruze wasn't appealing to.me the first couple times. Then it hit me and I truly love it.

I must say, as someone who lives in the UK, I am quite dissapointed that we don't get the sedan/saloon version. In this model it looks very smart IMO, miles ahead of the old Focus sedans which sold like cack due to their hideous style. Also very strange to see a 5 speed on a 2.0L engine, 6 gears would go a long way to improving fuel consumption and/or acceleration.

And apparently just as good on fuel in the real world when compared to Euro spec petrol equivalents, proving that the silly Euro requirements do next to nothing to improve fuel efficiency, but they do increase the cost of the engines.

literally anyone who can read can operate the radio in that car. I own a 2014 ford focus hatch and its one of the easiest radios to use yet because if you want it to do something then you can just tell it to do it. you do have to know the commands but that comes with owning a car. you learn how to properly take advatage of all its properties. telling any car that you want to listen to the radio isnt going to do anything. they didnt install K.I.T into this car, its not that smart. It is one of the best hands free systems i have ever experienced in a car though.

I just recently sold my 2014 focus se. It was fairly reliable for the most part, but just don't own it under warranty. The transmission is terrible. I had to bring it in at least 4 different times for the same issue. They would "reprogram" it and it would work well for a few months, then the same problem would arise again. The clutch basically slips when going to 2nd gear.

If you REALLY want to buy it and can drive stick shift, get one. Stick shift, not "automatic". Because of its transmission (dual clutch) I won't recommend it. Great on the highway, but not so good when you're doing city driving. Don't buy this car if you... 1) Do a lot of city driving. 2) Slow down all the way at a red light and then try to speed up when the light turns green. 3) Have never driven a manual. 4) Want a car that'll hold its value. Dealerships knows of this car's reputation and will give you nothing for it.

The focus tyranny has a lot of problems muchless having bad reliability. Corolla powertrain and powertrain will outlast this POS over 200,000 without having substantial a lot of problems.
