I just found the cause of the p0299 code that keeps popping up on my wife’s car. It’s the corrugated tube that goes from the intake manifold to the top of the turbo. There is a check valve in the end of the tube just before it connects to the turbo. The check valve gets stuck open once and a while and causes the intermittent code. I just put a new hose in. 80 dollars for the hose and 10 minutes later. No more codes. Update the code came back a few weeks later. New solution. Changed the waste gate actuator with an aftermarket one with a 12psi spring. 8 weeks no codes. 😊

Oh Ben you almost had it! So many turbos have been replaced because of this problem disconnect the linkage spray some WD-40 on the shaft going into the cast-iron manifold work out really good get It loosened up it’s free then spray carb cleaner on it to get rid of the WD-40 and you’re done. I have fixed many 1.4 like this . The problem is rust you can’t lubricate it because it gets too hot

Where do you spray the wd40 at?

I replaced my wastegate actuator and the underboost continues even though my car accelerates smoother now and no more surging so I checked my cat converters and they are bad at only 90k miles, but especially the first one in the downpipe! Clogged cats equals low boost! My plan is on black Friday to get a catless down pipe and high flow catted mid pipe from ZZPerformance and luckily they were smart enough to relocate the downstream oxygen sensor behind the 2nd catalytic converter so that way you can eliminate the first catalytic converter but still keep the check engine light off even without a tune!

Was the waste gate actuator ever replaced? Or the whole turbo in the end? From what I have seen (videos, forums) the bearing surfaces of the waste gate flap itself wear out causing it to seize or stick, which at first seems like your problem.

I know it was good for at least 1year after I messed with it. Can't speak for it now it was a neighbors car.

My 2014 Chevy Cruz is leaking oil. It’s not leaking from the engine or the oil pan. I’m puzzled where the oil is leaking from. I was told to replace the turbo boost on my car. The dealership is trying to charge me $4000 and that’s more that the car is worth. Please help

No the wastegate was just jammed up. It still runs fine since freeing it up as far as I know. The owner should probably go out and hit it with some antisieze again though.

the wastegate was sticking. it was rusted. a little lube freed it back up and the car has been running fine again. Waste gate sticking open or sticking closed can result in under or over boost conditions. The actuator itself was fine. it was the rod and wastegate flap rusted up.

...so after 3 months of spraying lubricant on that lever daily ive decided to replace the wastegate actuator for a ZZP Billet wastegate actuator...I spray the lever when the car is cold but will only last me that hour commute because the lube drys out due to extreme heat off the exhaust....any morning I dont lube it..the car doesn't build boost.....im thinking this will solve my issue with the increased spring load pressure to help keep the wastegate closed...I am tuned by trifecta so i'll just see if I do or dont need a retune...will let you know if it worked...😁

...today I installed the ZZP Billet wastegate actuator and ran the car a few good pulls and didnt get a (check engine light) ...for me since I am already tuned by Trifecta it didnt throw a code...😁

Mine is the opposite it says it makes too much! Idk to fix it

Was it the actuator? On the turbo? Cuz you can buy that separately although for the price sometimes it’s better just to replace the whole turbo

Turns out I just needed to spray some degreaser for 10-12 dollars through the intake manifold while a 2nd person reved the engine between 2000-2500rpms to clean the turbo engine and kinda the throttle body of carbon build up and now my turbo feels good as new! Side note I have a 2013 Buick Regal gs manual

Mines throwing same code on 3rd new turbo less than 5k miles on it as well idk whats going on

I fixed mine with a ZZP Billet Wastegate actuator and a Trifecta tune...of course everything else on the engine I checked...(spark plugs, coolant leaks, vacuum leaks checked)

Change the waste gate actuator. Get an aftermarket one with a 12psi spring. The factory ones the spring is maxed out so soon as it gets a little fatigued, it don’t hold enough pressure. My factory waste gate actuator spring after a few weeks was opening fully at 7-8 psi.
