2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo 0-60 MPH

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

MPGomatic.com drops the hammer on a 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo for a 0-60 MPH acceleration test.
The Veloster Turbo is fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharged 1.6-liter inline four cylinder engine that produces 201 horsepower (HP) and 195 pound feet of torque. The little four banger is equipped with dual overhead cams (DOHC), variable valve timing (D-CVVT), and direct injection (GDI).
This six-speed manual turbocharged Veloster was fitted with summer-spec Michelin tires. The 0-60 MPH test was performed with Traction Control OFF.

OPINIONS I am not buying any car now, but I am glad to see a car that is not a cookie cutter look. Next not bad power for price. Of course enough money can buy you faster or fancier. I never had a Hyundai but I like this peppy for cheap and Hyundai got my attention with the Sonata Hybrid that looks like a nice car not hybrid and with a big gas tank to go over 600 miles on a tank. Just saying I like out of the box thinking.

There's a bunch of stuff you might consider. For starters: The Fiat Abarth starts at $22K (if you can find one) or the 500 Turbo for a bit less, The Chevy Sonic RS Turbo starts at $21K, and the Mazda3 Skyactiv starting at $20K (no turbo, not quite as quick, but a great car with excellent fuel economy). The 2014 Fiesta ST turbo should be a hoot ... it's due this spring, I believe.

The cobalt ss is GONE which is exactly what I'm talking about. Rather than continue to compete by further developing the platform it just vanishes in favor of something like the Camaro. One step forward, two 3700-pound steps back. Good point about the regal though, I will admit I didn't even know it existed.

Just make sure you only race the wrx to 58mph. The gear change to 60 almost takes a second. 0-58mph in 6.7 0-60 7.0 0-62 (100kmh) 7.4. here in Australia Hyundai claim 0-62mph (0-100kph) in 6.5 but the best I've watched is 7.4. I guess a flat change could get to under 7. Does anyone know if the auto is faster or slower? If it did 6.9 i'd buy one but if its 7.4 i'll pay the extra for a wrx or evo.

For any idiot comparing their rwd muscle car or v6 sedan to this is a complete idiot. 1st off its a 1.6L Turbo that makes 201hp stock, that impressive. The VT is so resonated stock, a few bolt ons and a conservative tune you're looking at 240whp... :)

  • @Saytheodd

    @Saytheodd

    9 жыл бұрын

but it needs to be a big 2.4 Liter motor to make that 201hp stock. Hyundai has done the same thing with it's 2.4L GDI motor making 200hp stock (Sonata/optima), but soon realized that people who wanted the 4cyl wanted MPG, so they de-tuned the ECU with newer models Keep in mind this is a 1.6L. Even the 1.6 n/a Veloster makes 140hp while honda's 1.8L only makes 140. Plus best power to weight ratio in class.

Good for wht it is, especially a 1.6 4 cylinder! It's far faster than some 2litre cars about and not that far behind a Honda Civic Type R. Technology has certainly advanced from the days of a Ford Capri and Morris Marina (UK). Now everything is a balance between power and economy - two of the hardest things to combine. It's a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing that car.

I have heard of many reports about the fiat 500, that their paint on the bumpers were defective and after delivery the Chrysler dealers simply replied that itt's the customers fault for not inspecting it before it was delivered. Veloster offers lots of premium option at a bargain sticker price, and I agree with the sound of the engine, I'd rather take the quieter noise over loud and obnoxious sounds, after all I am not some teenage kid or a middle age old fat bald dude with a mid life crisis.

Not to bash your opinion of the Veloster Turbo, but as a owner of one I feel like I have to say this. a v6 mustang will get destroyed by a veloster turbo(MT) cant say to much on AT since i dont own one. the 5.0... well not many cars that come off the lot can keep up with that . Same thing goes with the Camaro, cant beat the ss but a v6 no biggie, challenger... well those things are just beast of a machine, the SRT challenger DESTROYS any hot hatch ever in the world!! ( stock of course ) and now for my favortie part, the MS3 (mazdaspeed3) So, the Mazdaspeed3 is rated at what, 265hp, 240lbp tq. and the veloster is 201hp, 190lbp tq? (just going off the top of my head) head to head on a 1/4 dragstrip, the veloster turbo and MS3 are dead even. The veloster turbo is an extremly light car about 1000lbs lighter then the MS3. out of 6 races the turbo won 3 and the MS3 won 3. NOW the MS3 3rd gear is its power horse so after a 1/4 mile MS3 would probably smoke the veloster. anyhoot this is just my opion and experiance with owning a VT. im not going to nix you for wanting the MS3, because i would love one as well

This is NOT 200hp & 195lb/ft. A GTI (which weighs ~50kg more) which ALSO has 200hp can do this in ~5.9 seconds. Opt for a DSG and it drops to 5.5 seconds. Hell, a Fiesta ST with 182hp matches or beats this. This is disappointing that Hyundai thinks it can lie on the spec sheet like this.

+Nick Motsarsky Everybody says that. It takes one or two people to say that and everyone latches on. Then again, they did lie about the diesel emissions. How come there are no videos of GTIs of old and new doing Dynos to prove this fabled tale?

They are pretty fast especially for the price. They are about on par with mustang gt's with just six cylinders. I'm not saying they're close to high performance racing or drag fast, but for casual usage they are very fast. 5 second flat 0-60? That's low-key close to r34 gtr fast which people like to praise so heavily

VW's are not reliable plain and simple, you might get a good engine trans combo that are reliable every so often but as far as models go any Asian manufacturer has a better track record than Vdub. This is known by anyone who knows anything about automobiles. The biggest culprit is usually their turbo Diesels, which tend to require lots of pricey maintenance. This year is looking to be one of their worst for the Jetta as far as reliability goes. Check out Truedelta if you don't believe me.

I always make fun of these as a tarted up Accent for non car savvy girls who think a real man is Justin Bieber : ) . But Ill tell you this engine seems nice and sound nice. Revs high for a Turbo and look at that pull under boost from 40 to 60. That must feel nice, 0-60 who cares.
