Some of these riders, especially the second guy, are some of the worst riders I've seen in a long time. Terrible...considering they are at a world show.

Bravo Raymond. He got first and second in that timed jump off. In any speed jumping event, be it Grand Prix or this AQHA show, it's standard for a well schooled horse to cut corners and the rider can indeed look out of control but he's not, not for a second. The horses know him, trust him and while you don't ride like that all the time, the time he's spent schooling these horses, making them fit and supple, getting that bond of trust, means he can shave the corners and take inside lines to the jumps and the horse will do it for him.

+Jeanne Haessler Actually...he has horrible form both over the jumps and on the flat. He is repeatedly thrown off balance when he lands the jump, several times he came dangerously close to being unseated, his posture is hunched and he has very sloppy hands. The second horse was a very unhappy horse as shown by the pinned ears and wringing tail. I understand cutting corners and trying to complete the course in the fastest time possible (lifelong eventer and speed jumper here! :) but at his level, he should ride better. Put him in an equitation class with that form and the judges would tear him apart. There is no excuse for that type of riding at his level. The fact that he squeaked out two clear rounds I attribute completely to the horses, not him. I would love to see what those horses could do under a more capable rider. The thing is with proper riding form is that those standards have been tried, tested and put in place to make jumping as safe for you and the horse as possible. Riding with a balanced seat can help to prevent a nasty fall and make setting a horse up for each jump successfully much easier and safer. Sorry for the long-winded reply! I'm not trying to be confrontational with you and I hope you don't take it as such. Just my humble opinion on the subject!

507 was sloppy sloppy sloppy. I understand this is a time event, but he was pulling all over his horse's face, and his driving seat had too much movement for my liking.

They are built for tight and quick turns. What he was doing is still not as harsh as barrel racing, cutting, so forth
