I just picked up a used grizzly yfm 450 last week to get around in our small block forest to help out with collecting firewood, i like it alot, it has sufficent power for what i need and fits on my ute perfectly.

How do the Kymco MXU 450i's compare to the Grizzly's? I was wondering, because I keep seeing people on the trails with these Kymcos, but there isn't much test/review/comparison info out there. I really like the Griz 450's, just wish they had fuel injection, too.

Why wider?I like being able to fit where the big quads can't?

Yes, very likely. Every other spec is the same on both the USA and EU sites. Another mistake is where the USA site gives the same weight for both the EPS and non EPS versions of the GRIZZLY 550 and 700. The weight they give is for the non-EPS version, while the EPS version is heavier.

@reaped999 The global site does say 4 valves. The US site doesn't. I don't know what engine they use in the rest of the world, but in the US the 2011 Grizzly 450 has the exact same 2 valve engine as the 2010 Grizzly 450, which is the same as my '06 Wolverine 450.

@reaped999 No, it's not a 4 valve engine. Go read the specifications on the Yamaha ATV website. The engine hasn't changed. If it had a 4 valve head it would say, like it does for the 550 and 700. In fact, the video say's it's a 2 valve.

@reaped999 Looking at a USA Yamaha OEM parts website, it shows only 2 valves in the head for 2011. So what I did was contacted a dealer in the UK asking them to verify if the 2011 Grizzly 450 really does have a 4 valve head in the UK, since it was the website for the UK/EU that said it's 4 valve. Hopefully I'll get an email response soon. Since every other spec for the EU is the same as for the USA, I suspect the EU site is wrong. It does happen.

I've locked the differential and ridden right through mud slides washed out bridges through rivers ......... i dont know about other quads but i know that i cant have any electronic bullshit in this environment ........ the grizzly is a beast

This handy agile bike fits me exactly, is 4 inches narrower than 420 Honda meaning no problems getting through sheep or hunt gates on hill land, not to high for jumping of and on at farm work, very comfortable and goes any where it's asked. One fault, needs a lower reverse gear.

Dear Yamaha, Please do not listen to this guy. If I wanted a bigger, wider, more powerful atv I would buy one, and everyone else would do the same. The fact that it is mid-sized in both motor and frame is what is so appealing.

  • @WKHalford

Grizzly. Quite a bit less weight. Less weight gives a performance advantage in almost every recreational situation. You get to decide when to put it in 4wd and lock the front differential. You can put it in 4wd and lock the differential BEFORE you lose traction, instead of having to lose traction before it goes into 4wd like Polaris. And you get to control the front/rear brakes seperately on the Grizzly. The Polaris probably rides better and has more power. That's the only advantages.

sorry but i disagree, honda builds the most reliable atvs in the industry, we have 2 honda rincons with 23,000 km, and 26,000 km. and a honda foreman with 17,000 and a honda rancher with 13,000 km. nothing has gone wrong with them majorly. just breaks, bearings the usual.

Funny how you say that while giving no facts to back it up. Yes, Hondas are known for reliability/durability. What about the rest of the story? Such as the Rancher having no front locking differential and no low range. And smaller 24" tires. And less ground clearance. The Grizzly 450 has a front locker, low range, a broader torque spread from it's CVT, bigger stock tires, and more ground clearance. And it's durability/reliability is close to Honda. You failed to tell the WHOLE story.
