I actually watched this video before I bought my 2011 Outback 3.6 almost 7 years ago. It's still going strong and is the best car I've ever owned. Weird to go back and watch this video again. Especially seeing how crappy picture quality used to be on YT haha.
I love how Andre turns this show from a normal everyday car reviewing show into some sort of dystopian Kubrick-like character.
"Subaru has introduced it's new throttle-by-carrier pigeon system." Lol
@sspope after I said the "best riding car," i realized i should have clarified the statement a bit. 1) yes, the base car is better. It's way cheaper, and the transmission options (6M, CVT) should eliminate the terrible throttle response with the 5A transmission. 2) It's not an air-ride S-class Benz, but the Outback's relatively simple suspension floats over bumps better than any other "reasonably priced" car I've driven, especially on terrible potholes or dirt. Better than any SUV for sure.
nice car and some smooth jazz in the background that too is cool
@MUSTANGmaniak2010 The Bullrun Rally is from July 9th to 16th. We will be uploading 1 video per day during the rally.
A metal shift interlock that will out last a plastic unit that will leave you stuck in park if it fails and you gripe about it clicking. If you use the features, there's an instant MPG, and an AVERAGE MPG display which is based on the mileage logged for each trip odometer. Quite useful actually. And what are you so concerned with the exhaust note for? It's not a Porsche, or any muscle car for that matter, so quiet is good. Next time, learn to use ALL the features before commenting, then review the car based on more of it's intended use and targeted consumer.

The digital display in the center can be set to display instant or average, but the analog gauge that goes where the temperature gauge used to go is exactly as useless as Matt says it is.

Colin Rose It's not useless, it helps keep the driver conscious of his driving habits and how they're affecting fuel economy.
@151soccer no, 2011 is the last model year for the Viper.
@broncofan12312 the one doing the burnout is a CLK black series
@sspope depends. The last-generation Lecacy GT Spec B was one of the best sleeper cars out there. A few plumbing and software tweaks would help it positively smoke an S4 or M3 on a highway. I actually owned a 1998 Legacy GT as well. While it's a great car for the money, it's not competitive with BMW or Audi except on paper.
Very good review. Much more consumer and enthuiast centered than the dry reviews in something like motortrend. Its a car show unlike the "first tests" that magazines provide.
@swinglow33 They are the only flat sixes in production, as far as I know, and both the 911 and Subaru are 3.6L engines.
@KllassIIK 2 problems with that: 1) Older cars are much harder to find, and hard to find owners who will just let us use their cars all day long to film with. 2) Most people are searching for information about the newest cars online. So, while some of our more dedicated subscribers will watch whatever videos we make, we need to be expanding to new audiences with every episode. And new audiences look for new cars. No one is searching "1955 Chevy Nomad Review" on KZread.
"...i still wanna collect tracy date" LMAO that french guy is freakin hilarious. added a nice touch to your video. great review too
That's a great review... good job!
Great review, thanks.
@Dragsteryourself yes, it is.
That was an awesome set up lmao!!
@ethosflux she appears in the last few minutes of the video. She also appears in the Honda Civic Si review.
@delayedmuffin working on it. Motorcycles are tough, and as much as I love them, I'm not exactly an expert on them. We'll see
i have a 2001 and one manual outback 2.5 lt and its my first car and as all first cars i love it, i can throw it into a corner and it will understeer, alot. but its still fun, im always finding dirt roads to venture down and explore andddd get sidesways on. had 2 handbrake cables in it so far cause i keep stretching them..... love it.
i seriously found the white balloon here in wyoming!
the best outback review so far
Love the immitation of the engine sound @4:49
Agreed on the value thing....we bought a base model for a little over 20K. As long as you maintain Subies-they pretty much last forever. We had one that we sold after 300K+ miles. Still ran great although there wasn't much of the body left :-)
Here’s the problem. We got guys all over the nation reviewing cars, especially Japanese cars. They’d spit the bells & whistles about it and it’s few sets of quirks and features. I hope they’d do an American car model during the same time. Because buddy, because right now I’m 2019, I will bet you in your money to do the same review on this model in comparison with other American car of the same class and to your surprise you will find that these car holds their price, their drivability , their performance and especially their values. 😉
nice shot with the balloons Mat =) , well i thing is that we know 1 is easy to Locate . just need something to insulate myself from powerlines =)
haha, awesome idea with baloon and date =))
@Fallout667 If we can find someone stupid enough to lend us a Viper, then yes, absolutely, and we are trying to get some exclusive video of the new SSC this year.
good review!
@phantomloita yes.
Oh crap! Frenchie is back! May I suggest a restraining order Matt? He reminds me of buffalo bill from silence if the lambs!
great video
hah really helpful vid. and really entertaining thumbs up :D
@Fallout667 *Correction, I found someone *awesome* enough to lend us a Viper. Shoot it sometime in July.
@nicocrank that balloon freed itself
that Pearl Jam tattoo needs tidyin' up dude!....and Hi from another Pearljammer!
What is the ground clearance of this car; how much leg room. I really like it and would like one if I ever get rid of my toyota van.
nice review :p
can anyone tell me where this dirt road is locate?
nice video homie, wonder what ur girl thought of going out with a random did it actually happend, did soem1 find the baloons?
liked everything about the video except the balloon bits.
hey matt would your reccomend this car for the bigger guys. not sure exactly how big you are
Thank you! I got a 2008 Impreza and yeah the throttle response is horrific; exactly 1.5 seconds before anything happens.
i need to know where exactly that dirt road is, and how to get there. name of the road and the city please? it looks like an area with a lot of possible hoonable dirt roads. need the city please!!
6:40 that is a nice view
any1 playing gta knows exact location xD
When are you guys uploading the GT500 Bullrun video?
The first sport utility wagon! But it wasn't, AMC Eagle was the first SUW...
That's pretty fast for a car that big.
I noticed there is an issue with throttle response and automatic transmissions that lag till it downshifts or nothing happens gets annoying. i'd go the manual.
My 2003 Outback has that same noise with the shifter at 5:40
WHAT IS THE MERCEDES AT THE STARTUP
Releasing balloons is bad for wildlife. Not that you would care (obviously),or that you have ever seen wild life.
@ TheSmokingTires I think that horrible noise is more of the CVT than the engine. but i agree 100%
you push the clutch in b4 you pull the handbrake lol, dont you go sideways ever?
@TheSmokingTire Did he really find that balloon cause it seems it bit sketchy.
i know its not a sports car, but it goes alright for an eco wagon. i mean if you can call it that, its a bit heavy on the petrol
@manlyman6392 First you'd have to define "bigger." You could be like 800 pounds and have to be taken out of your house by a forklift or something. If that were the case, you may want to fold down the rear seats and have them load you in the giant cargo area. If you're over 6 foot 10, I'd recommend opening the sunroof.
Hey Matt, I agree with some of the minor annoyances of this car, but this sure is one great car to import up in Canada. We've got the exact same car you reviewed, less the nav. system at $32k out of the US dealership, and paid $3200 in import taxes. For $36k up here in Canada, that probably wouldn't be enough mid range CR-V, or RAV 4. Sucks that we aren't allowed to import every kind of car from the US up to Canada, you guys have the best prices anywhere!
Lol that was a great review. Odd question about Andre The Homeless French Chef, is that Jonathan Blitt, the one from MTV's "Boiling Points" or something?
How can you compare the Subaru boxer engine to the Porsche? They are so different in so many ways. Ha, nice. Stopping by the power lines to release the balloons.
@birdmankustomz666 I have a 2010 Impreza with a standard transmission and I agree that Subaru clutches are extremely touchy.
@TheSmokingTire Could be a nice car with 6M, but all CVTs I've experienced were horrid. They make the car feel like a boat. Btw. do you think Legacy GT is a good driver's car? In Japanese Best Motoring shows, Subaru representatives often state they want to compete with luxury and sports badges such as BMW. Do you think Legacy or something else from Subaru's range can be a worty 3-series competitor?
LEFTY!
the 2012 version has an updated engine that has 27X hp and it is pretty fast. It also sounds better than that. The throttle problem he describes is not in the new update. and it does have a mpg next to the clock. just have to hit a button
@KllassIIK In 2 weeks.
Seems like it would be a whole lot better if they still offered the manual with the 3.6--Or the Outback XT (turbo) with manual. Subarus apparently have notoriously bad automatic transmissions. I just picked up a 2001 Outback and I'm trying to find some good dirt roads to play on out here.
hey i found that ballon lol
@DZoneTV no he is joking the balloons andre was holding were still floating if he had found them they would have been flat or popped
@mcheddadi it's called comedy, ever heard of it?
@Zinizzle yes yes.
the instant mpg is above the radio bro
@Rohan419 Probably a setup. If he really found it it would've been flat/deflated. Also, that would take longer than an hour
You left out the B9 Tribeca
MCM!
just saw one near vancover...
so did anyone else end finding the balloons and calling you back?
@TheSmokingTire If the H6 were a great engine, I'd say it's worth it for the extra power. But the H6 is an average engine, at best. Better to save your money and get the 4-banger. It's just as functional a car, will get better economy, and has better transmission options.
We have an '06 with a standard trans, terrible transmission. Great car but the shifting is awkward due to the lever placement and the clutch is too touchy.
@023338 lol. Maybe 9000 but not 10000 xD
can it tow 10,000lbs?
Is that the guy from borat? Talidega nights lol ?
lol good ending hahaha Subaru, set the WRX aside, is defiantly on the top of my list for practical reliable new car brand thats a good value. Apparently in base trim.
It'a kinda Cayenne in front:)
Was that a mickey beside his coffee?
wow hold on, the dodge viper is not going to be made any more?
my porsche 930 turbos make a hell of a lot of noise.
no way dude she's pretty. I love her nose.
the previous legacys and otbacks were 1. better looking 2. better made 3. just as powerful with 3.0 engines 4. felt more premium like
That thing can tear up hill in some leary roads. I could follow, but I'd LOLOVERSTEER off the cliff at some point.
ok the first episode that the french guy was in i hated him, but that was hilarious
@023338 no, definitely not.
Still, the 3.6 gets 25mpg highway which isn't too bad considering its off road abilities, awd, and 256hp.
i seriously spent 10 minutes watching this?! XD omg i need to study
@dragospahontu

Damn
MightyCarMods!
@023338 it only tows 24000 lbs with the 2.5L and the 3.6L or w/e is 26000lbs I just bought it in case your wondering how i know. =D and what this guy says is exactly true, buy the base version its excellent value and i love it, but all the other "options" are totally worthless
I'm a little less than enthusiastic about winning a date with Matt's girl.... He's a pretty big guy and I really don't want my legs broken.
And too bad the ONLY Legacy wagons sold in the US are Outbacks with the raised suspension. We can no longer get a rtegular Legacy wagon! A Legacy STI would be awesome
Outback not an enthusiast car?? I'll show you!
