Can a Nissan Versa beat a Corvette?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Matt always buys impractical cars and tries to justify them as practical, even though they are far from it. Dan makes him put his money where his mouth is by holding a practicality challenge against the most practical car in the US: a base Nissan Versa.

The Versa and the GT-R use the same engine.
I come back to this video every year for a good laugh
I loved these old videos. Zack looked so young and Farah's Vette was awesome. Hard to believe I've been watching your content for so long. I remember the Garage 419 days.
After over 8 years, the e-brake stunt is still hilarious
You are supposed to lie the trunk down gently and press on the middle to get it closed not drop it that's a good way to crack your rear window
Lmfao. The ramp/wallet dance!
@jmicm13 the front wheels are 19x10.5, the rears are 20x12. The front width tires are 285's, the rear 315's.
@vabeachbully I changed the headlights because the aerodynamics at night were terrible with the pop-ups

Agreed sir, Modded WRX wagons are great, practical fun, as well.... I don't have to build the ramps very often, because when I go out, I almost always take my SV, it's the fastest way around LA (well except for a literbike or something)
It's wierd that the camera picked that up, because when we were shooting the car was clean....
I don't give two craps how "efficent the Versa is", when the Corvette is almost as good, I'll just take the Corvette.

I know this is a 4 year old comment but you can't buy a brand new Corvette for $15k. That's the point of the versa, it's a well optioned, roomy daily driver. You get the most bang for your buck as far as having reliable, efficient transportation. Of course a Corvette is better, it's a fucking Corvette lol. They're both great at what they're designed to do. Ideally you'd have both, versa for commuting/not wearing out your Vette. Corvette for burnouts and fun stuff. Unless you're rich, then daily a lotus fuck it
The more I see this guy the more I like him
*random Firebird trivia, the rear glass hatch on those cars was, at the time, the largest and most complex piece of glass ever used on a car.
nope, stock cam, but I did forget the improved valve springs, valves, etc.... My guy Anthony at B&A Motorsports in Mamaroneck, NY did all the install/engine work.

My vette has the following: - Long tube headers w/ x-pipe (no cats) - GHL Catback Exhaust - Ram Air Intake, Throttle Body and Mass Air Meter - Intake Manifold - Ported/Polished stock heads - Fuel Pump/Injectors/Rails - Super agressive tune - Cold stage spark plugs - Heavy Duty Clutch
that's a mosaic tile, how cool is that thing? it weighs like 50 lbs.
lol we have the same idea of practical, the more horsepower the better! id take power over practicality any day.

bobos245 His bikes are in his garage with the vette. They're making a video hence they need the driveway space. What about the street and how do you know he doesn't have MULTIPLE cars parked on the street just to make room for this video? Your observation skills are pretty terrible man lol. I keep my vette parked in the driveway and my camaro parked on the street. I keep my GSXR hidden in the backyard. Basically what i'm saying is his vette isn't a daily driver. Driving it on the street doesn't make it a daily driver. Driving it every day to school and work is a daily driver lol.
I tried that method, it didn't work out well....
@RaNdY04gt lots of things. Suspension, brakes, engine, interior, wheels, lighting, everything you can do without forced induction.

we didn't burn out in residential areas, we did it in an empty office parking lot. And we did rent the Versa, but we returned it in pristene condition.

This is stupid. The Nissan is ugly.
@BlackStar250874

Maybe because it was not even meant to be anything special. It is a family sedan! But yes, this is otherwise stupid comparison about practicality.
you have to remove the regular belts from the Corvette if you want to put aftermarket race seats in the car. The seats won't fit if you leave them in.
*point of reference* I went snowboarding today at Big Bear, and though I took the Volvo (there were 3 of us) there were TWO C5 Corvettes in the parking lot, one of them had two guys getting out. I stopped and asked, and yes, the C5 will carry two people, their boards and gear, to the mountain.
So horribly scripted. The acting is worse than Megan Fox's in Transformers

the ls engines are small in size, reliable, cheap, low weight and have great power /torque. What engines did Holden use on their high powered sports cars?....oh yeah they're ls crate motors, sometimes with a surpercharger from your skunkworks division.
It's my Suzuki SV650 and I park close to the wall because I want to be able to get either the Bike or the Vespa out without having to move stuff around. It hasn't been a problem yet.
If you can afford the Z06, the only reason to get a base C5 is a) you'll be changing the engine so much that it's not worth investing in a Z06, or b) you want it to be a convertible sometimes. If you don't care about the targa roof, go for the Z06. In either case, buy the best car you can afford.
Agree with you, but the previous tenant of my house drove a 2006 E46 M3 (stock ride height, 18" wheels) and his car would scrape every time he pulled in.....
the most badass one is prolly my Polizei jacket that was a gift from Alex Roy, but I also have a few different race suits and Motorcycle jackets from Scorpion and Alpinestars. My helmets are made by B2Z(Bell Europe) and Shoei, and I use Team DI gear as well.
it takes a few hours for the HD feed to process, we say this every single episode. Wait a few hours and come back.
Love the show!... But if there's one thing I love more, it's the intro song- so relaxing and classy, it contrasts the harsh and brutal, beautiful nonetheless, engine sounds of the great cars you review and feature. Keep it up, great show and the quality keeps getting better and better! Bravo
We're reviewing the 2010 Honda Civic Si Sedan on the next episode of TST, we'll see if it fits the bill!
great spot. The contest and times were real, but for exterior b-roll of the cars, we shot them at the same time, and my car did sneak into a shot of the versa there!
I used to have one, a 1994 GT that I put a 347 stroker motor in. Fast car, I may get another Mustang one day, but I'm good with the Vette for now.
of course that's the point. This entire episode pokes fun at that exact fact.
iv'e watched over 50 videos from this channel.. how have i not subscribed yet!!
6:05 "one of my favourite features in the car" LMFAO!
don't know. They are the Kooks long tube race ones.
the time contest was real. After the contest, we went out and did rolling b-roll shots of both cars together to get an A vs. B comparison...
yes, I do, but the illusion is that I don't actually use the car every day. I ride my motorcycle, or drive whatever press car we have in the garage that week. If I drive my Corvette 4 times a month, that's a lot.
because the point of the excercise is to find the cheapest, most practical car available. A base versa, at $11,000, is just about as cheap and practical as it gets.
I've seen a few home-built STI wagons out here, and they are very cool....
Depends. Mine isn't for sale, but you can get a mint condition 1998 Corvette with similar mileage for about 17,500-19,000. C5's are cheap, and with simple mods can be turned into real beasts.... Having said that, I've dumped more than that amount in mods into mine....
Yes, we shot exterior b-roll of the cars at the same time after the contest, and my car snuck into one of the shots of the Versa.
they are a one-off set, the only set like it in the world, made for me by my good friend George at ProFormance Industries in New Rochelle, NY.
I can do that on my bike, it's pretty narrow, but yes, Vespas and other scooters (like the MP3500) are fantastic around the city. My girlfriend's Vespa is just a 50 though, so it's not really powerful enough for me.
I was forced to have a Bar Mitzvah, which I didn't want to have at all. When I turned 18 and got access to my Bar Mitzvah stash 'o cash, I walked straight into the dealership and paid for it in hundreds. Happy bar mitzvah to me.
C5R headlight conversion. Like the ALMS race cars.
I bought it stock in 1998 when I was 18 for $48,650. Kept it stock for most of its life until I couldn't take the GM cost cutting anymore and replaced all the garbage cheapnes (seats, steering wheel, suspension, brakes, headlights, wheels, tires, exhaust, with stuff that I really felt wouldn't just make the car faster, but be an all around better driver. I think I really succeeded because my Corvette drives better than the C6 Z06 I drove last week by leaps and bounds, and it's 10 years old!
Remembering the days when we could give the cup holder tray back and they probably would reuse it and nobody would bat an eye
sideburns + sunglasses + that fart at 4:36 = epic
agreed, and we used some of those drawbacks as comedy, however, a stock vette still won't clear my driveway. In fact, with more than 2 people in the car, my current Honda Civic Si press car scrapes....
caught us, we shot exterior b-roll of the cars after the contest was over, and my car snuck into one of the shots of the versa.
Hey Matt ! what type of exhaust you have on your c5? long tubes headers and... x pipe? h pipe? glass packs?
caught me.... we shot some of the exterior b-roll with both cars together, and I may have snuck into that shot :)
we filmed this episode the last week in november.
of all the hybrids, the Prius does make up the price difference faster, and Zack is right, it's about 40k miles compared to say, the price of a Corolla. Some Lexus/BMW hybrids, on the other hand, you'd have to drive for 10, 20, 50 years to make up the difference!
It's 421 at the wheels, 502 Crank.
Ramps = Amazing - way to get creative - another great episode - Still love the intro
Haha, that was excellent guys! You have a new fan.
The first convo in this video described my whole existence lol using having a 2 seater as an excuse
I always liked the 850 R wagon with a stick, rare car and lots of fun to drive. It's too bad I don't like the new "R" series volvo's as much as those. Hopefully Geely will put some character back into them.
yes. The car is legally registered in South Carolina.
I do have an open invite for DD to come on the show when he's out here. If not, Dan and Zack are TST Interns/writers and will be making quite a few appearances on the show in the future.
I got no experience with 2-strokes, (an embarassing fact, I know), but scooters of all kinds are just such good fun, and a great, cheap way to get around. Every time I ride the Vespa I feel like I'm on Vacation.
No, they are from the C5R Race Cars.
That last shot was amazing.
LOL at the ramp building. Golden. Great watch/lulz for anyone with a low car and knows that feel.
Wow thats amazing Matt. I really like the sounds and the looks of the car. But ya you did a great job on creating one beast of a Corvette. :)
No one gave me this show, I created it from nothing. It takes a ton of hard work 7 days a week just to put out one 15 minute video. If you don't like what I do, then I absolutely, 100% welcome you to try to do better. As for my car, well I guess it's a matter of taste, but I did what I did because the car drives better now than it did from the factory, and that's all that matters. The headlights help with the aero at night, the popups are like parachutes.
where did those headlights come from? and is that blue bike a honda hornet?
