2010 Honda Civic Si HFP Sedan Review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Smoking Tire relives our old high school days by driving around LA, picking up our buddies, and going Go-Karting at Adams Motorsports Park. Is the Civic fun enough to satisfy Matt's taste for sporting cars, while practical enough to haul around his friends and gear?

200 hp in a little 2.0 NA and revs to 8000 rpm is pretty good and the reliability of a honda can't beat that !

Em1 was the nicest gen but then the 8th gen came out 😍💯🏎
The car only makes 200 bhp, but the POTENTIAL and reliability the car has is something you idiots don't understand. The 2.0L k20 engine in this Si revs to 8k rpms, and is practically bulletproof when modifying it.

after you drop in pistons rods sleeves ect.. to build up the engine to even handle a turbo which is where you would get most of your performance if you want to actually build something decent. So you've got to drop at least $6-8k not including labor unless you want an ebay turbo kit. You could get a GTI for the same $25k new and take it to APR United Motorsports or one of the other big tuning companies and for $600 get an extra 60hp or drop $2000 on a k04 turbo and be making 360whp or go big turbo and 500hp+ internals on the 2.0t are good for 500hp. k20 is a joke in stock form too.
Honda really focuses on their motors, they dont just pump shit out into the economy/market they make what people can drive in a fun affordable style other car companies ask for an arn and a leg.

Too true.
I like the part where vtec kicked in, yo.
I kept repeating it as a joke every time the tach crossed 6k, when Vtec "kicks in." I guess it wasn't all that funny. The base Si at $23k is a stellar value. Everything I liked about the car, seats, shifter, engine, touch points, all come in the base car. I would personally skip every single option on the car and go with a base car if I were in the market.
The Si sedan looks soo complete with the HFP package, just wish it wasn't soo expensive to add it all. I would totally buy this car in this color too. Its freaking beautiful.
The best small truck I've driven was a 2000 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with a TRD supercharger put on it. It was seriously quick, like WRX quick, and my friend traded it back in to Toyota with 289,000 miles on it because of a frame rot concern, and they gave him 75% over blue book for the car on a trade for a new Tacoma. He keeps telling me how much he misses his old one, and I agree.
We're looking to schedule a Fit Sport in the next couple of months, so I guess we'll find out. I hear they are very good.
Looking back at this car in 2019 I think this is one of honda's best productions. But then again at the time people only started to unlock the potential of that engine chassis combo

Fun review. You should do more real world tests like this.
That part where the dude with the newspaper reminded me of how Peter met Brian on family guy
We live in Redondo Beach now, and we love it here. Adams is either a very big kart track or a very small car track, and they use it for both. Their drift nights are fun, and the track is set up pretty well for Time Attack in slower cars. They have been generous with their track time for us, and we will continue to go there in the future. Buttonwillow, Willow Springs, and the like are all very good, but also out of our budget most of the time. Spring Mountain is our favorite though...
yes that's true, the Genesis is in the same range, with the 2.0T at least. That segment is hugely popular, and there are quite a few options that I neglected to mention by name. It's tough when you I these things on the fly to get every bit of information in there and keep myself from rambling on too much.
you can tell this is from 2010 by the humor 😂, great review
Zack bringing the comedic break! I think we'll see him doing such a thing more and more as he takes the hem of the One Takes.
yeah, it doesn't really ever work out when it's really loud, I think the HFP exhaust will give you some power gains without making it annoying....
the helmet mounted cameras were actually Just me and tom's personal Canon point and shoot cameras put in video mode. We've got 3 new ContourHD 1080's coming in on friday, which we will use for mounted shots in the future, but so far those things have worked pretty good.
I would never buy a civic brand new so the price is fine lol
What idiot packs a car full of people and stuff. Then complains that it's slow.. wtf????
As a point of reference, $29k was the "as tested" price of our car. That means Navigation, and the "as installed" price of the HFP kit. A base Civic Si Coupe, which comes standard with everything we liked about the car, is $23k, which, in my opinion, is a really solid value.
I went back to this video to see a "back-then" Civic SI review. Great job! And didn't know Zack was on the street lol
7:27 I don't mind listening to that everyday and even put it into my soundtrack :D
I disagree, the car is great maybe not the fastest but C'mon, plus who in their right mind would race or drive spirited with the car full of passengers
@jyee233 obviously, I wasn't including cars that aren't sold under the Honda brand.
you've found some great used options there, unfortunately maintenance and insurance would also prevent a new driver from purchasing some of these options, especially the porsche, vette and lotus. As a point of reference, the "base" Civic Si coupe is $23k and comes with all the good stuff that I liked about the car. It's when you load in the HFP pack and Navigation that it gets really pricey.... but at the base end, a much better value.
Is this where "vtec just kicked in yo" comes from?
@MrAdrian13
9 жыл бұрын
No it came way before this lol Idk where from tho
throw a header and a tune and it's pretty quick
we do, and sometimes we take advantage of those, but I just forgot about the Hyundai this time. We're driving the V6 version of the coupe in 3 weeks, so we'll talk about it a bunch then.
I was talking about the Mazdaspeed3, Lancer Ralliart, and Subaru WRX, all of which have base prices within $3,000 of the Honda Civic Si, and offer Turbochargers, and AWD in the case of the Subaru and Mitsubishi.
This would be a good first car :)
V-TEC just kicked in yo lmao
Wild. Been watching the Smoking Tires for years but this is the first time I’m seeing an early video. I wonder if Matt ever thought this would turn into a career that would buy him a Countach?
*point of reference, the base price of the Civic Si is about $23k. The base car at the base price is a great value. It's when you start adding stuff like the HFP pack and Navigation in our test car that it goes wrong.
C'mon Honda, at least you can give us the 220HP from the FD2R. That extra 20HP will make everyone happy including all the haters.
@whiffy506
7 жыл бұрын
Pao S thing is, on this motors, adding 20hp is really easy. The aftermarket is huge as well.
I love this video it really brought me back to high school and the good ol times, my first Si, and that skateboard... I had phantom 2 trucks too! (๑╹◡╹)ノ"
It’s 2023. I remember I was in the 8th grade watching this video on my laptop as a kid! Lol
dude, loved the vid. a lot fresher than the everyday walk around. nice! im subscribing!
This is why I stopped looking to buy a 4 cylinder honda and got my self a j35 swap in a civic frame, all the torqu and power and still 100% honda ;)

This is the last real civic si. I sold my 2010 tafetta white and I miss the shit out of it, I am sorry honda but you screwed up fuck the 9th gen.
@hussali8838

They are getting rare these 8thegen. I drove the 9th gen si steering wheel was light, it felt lazy and the 8thgen si felt quicker too. I think the engine is what made the 8thgen the good car it is.

Totally agree with you. I am always online checking for low mileage fg2/fa5 that hasn't been in an accident very hard to find anything close to what I had. Also the engine doesn't burn any oil as did the B/H series, it really is maintenance free! I am on the hunt!
@Katsuya89

***** How much did you buy it for? I am thinking of getting a red FA5 with 20,000 miles on it for 17k from a private seller.
@Katsuya89
10 жыл бұрын
***** I see. I guess 17k isn't too bad then. It is a2010 and is in great shape, completely stock, and it is owned by an older woman. It will cost me like 18,300 after T+T+T, plus 500 to get it shipped. What year is yours?
@Katsuya89
10 жыл бұрын
***** I would like to, but the car is over 1100 miles away. I could fly there and drive it back, but that would still cost me like $250 plus i would be putting all them miles on the car. The car comes with 3 years of Honda Care, so if something does go wrong, I will be covered.
I really value good seats in a car, which is why I yanked out my garbage vette seats and put in a set of Sparco Evo2's ($750 each + $200 each for hardware). I know you're looking at less expensive seats than that, and used Evo or STI seats are a good start. My friend bought some knock-off recaros on ebay for $550 for a set, plus $200 for mounting hardware for both. These seats aren't bad for daily driver duty, but I worry about how the padding will hold up in the long term....
I haven't compared the numbers, it may accelerate as fast (or faster), but odds are it doesn't handle as well.
Mannn i'd rather take that civic over the mazdaspeed3 and lancer ralliarts lol

Jordan Lopez eeehh, maybe not a ms3, it has more room, looks better and nearly 80 more hp
the Si is a good car, get the coupe it feels alot sportier and has alot more "get up"
Tom talking from behind the camera sounds like a really good idea, the more opinions the better! He rode in the car too...... so why not!?? Love the smoking tire btw, best american car show!!! Keep up the good work
we've already reviewed the MX-5 on our show, it's fantastic.
it's important for us to make videos about as many different types of enthusiast cars as possible, so we can reach a wider variety of viewers who may be into things besides just exotics. The Si is the highest performing Honda available in the US right now, so I figured it was at least worth a try. Despite the price issue, it's actually a very nice car that I really enjoyed driving around for a week.
This is actually one of the best reviews of Matt Farah! VTEC kicked in YO!
@TheSmokingTire - great video and review! I really reminds me of my high school and college days of packing the 4 banger with friends. (only we did it with sometimes 5 ppl) Yeah, the power-to-weight really makes it tough on the 2.0 motor. Throw in the HFP package and you're adding extra weight and rotational mass of the 18's. Even with 17" wheels it makes it tough to put power to the ground. It would be nice to see honda make a "true" 2.4 motor with a R/S ratio that will rev to 8k as well.
So far so good, I am convinced that Honda Civic is the ideal car for a new driver here in San Francisco. I've been searching and reading reviews for too many compact cars but only Honda Civic satisfied me for what I am looking for.
just as a point of reference, $29k is the "as tested" price of our fully loaded Si sedan. The base Si coupe, which comes standard with all the stuff we liked about the car, is $23k, which is much more reasonable.
Well, I don't remember exactly how much the engine alone was, I remember that I bought the car, a stock 1994 GT 5-speed with 40k on it for $12,500 in 1999. I traded in my Subaru for it, and got about $22k on trade, so I put all that into the car immediately. Engine, suspension, brakes, Cobra R wheels/hood/wing, and basic stereo upgrades. I'd guess the suspension was $2500, the wheels/tires another $2000, body work about $1500, leaving about 4k for the engine rebuild....
Great observation on the untapped performance potential of the k-series engine as well as the chassis of the civic. Been a fan of the show for a while, great originality. Refreshing to see a show that isnt overdone or one that takes itself too seriously.
This is Matt, I do all the commenting for TST, and I have driven 5 or 6 different E39 M5's including a cross-country trip with Alex Roy. The M5 is a fantastic driver, and certainly cooler than any new car you could buy at that price, but a mandatory $7500 service on a $20k used car is a gigantic bill to have to cover. For BMW enthusiasts or people with lots of money, it might be worth it. But if you're looking at a second or third-hand M5, it's something to consider before buying.
I came to see Matt say Vtak kick in Yoo, love the fa5. Fun to drive n the sound it make when v-tec kick in.
aahh continuity error discovered! When we were doing that bit, I realized immediately that I ignored Tom in the back and then left him out of the weight formula as well! You don't miss a thing.... We just had a discussion too about whether or not we should break the 4th wall in the episodes and have Tom start talking from behind camera. He is a real car guy with real opinions, what do you think?
Awesome review Matt. :)
good option, until you have to do the 80k mile major service with the carbon buildup on the valves and the VANOS service, which is a $7500 job..... adds to the price of a used M5 considerably.
Really nice review. U deserve to be more well known
Love all your shows im a big top gear guy and you help me get by when the britts are off the air just thought i would say that lol
ha! We should have a mario-kart lookalike day at the track, where everyone has to show up in costume.
I love this REVIEW! more reviews like this!
thanks for the review your summary is exactly what i'm looking for in a car.
Yes. Finally an Si Sedan review. I love mine.
haha great question. My first car was my mom's 1996 Mercury Village (Nautica Edition!), which I drove until I had saved up enough money to buy my Dad's 1992 Lexus LS400 in 1998 at a reasonably steep discount, probably 75% of what it was worth on a trade-in. I drove that for a few months, and then traded it in for a 1999 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT. After a year of frustration at the lack of performance parts,(pre-wrx days) I went to a used Mustang GT, swapped the motor for a 347, and never went back.
what is a better car to buy used honda civic si or honda civic EX-L ? as a daily commuter, to go on road trips and to transport bikes?
Anybody know where I can find a 2010 Civic Si with the HFP package?
What a beauty. I got one a few days ago. I need the kit.
This would all pretty much hold true for the Canada only CSX too, right? Looking at a 2011 at 86K miles, 7900CAD (~9K total post tax). Worth it?
Great webisode, as always!
Those look like the funnest go karts I have ever seen!!
there are no plans for an Ecoboost Mustang right now. i've asked them a hundred times. The new 3.7L V6 will make a normally-aspirated 305hp.
You're probably talking more about steering feel than cornering ability. If you look at the cornering G limits of a Corvette or a Viper, you'll find that they are similar to those of an M3 or Porsche, but that the steering feel isn't as good. That's at least what I find....
what would we do with those trucks that would be interesting? I can see an episode on the Raptor, or a Supercharged Tundra, or even the Syclone or Typhoon, but the GM and Ford small trucks are uninteresting and on aging platforms. I think about 2 people would watch that video.
really really good point about the touch points on a car. I never really notice that but now i do.
you'll never forget it, and it's extremely important. Don't worry, that's what I'm here for :)
Sick Vid, yet again
Thanks for the review Guys!!
best review in america I seen so far.....
Awesome review matt, I agree about Honda being a bit disappointing lately. I've got a S2000 and was really looking forward to the replacement but well we saw what happened there. It also makes it hard working at a Honda dealer lol. I think I'll probably follow in your footsteps and look into a corvette at some point.
You can get an base Civic Si coupe for $23k, which comes with all the touch points and the same engine, seats, and interior, basically everything we liked about the car. Much better value at $23k than $29k.
@6:35 Holy shit, it's Zach! He's come a long way since washing windshields.
I have one of these!!! I absolutely love it!
nice vid as always. matt your vids and the smoking tire rock, and who is that in the background music towards the end?
This video is hilarious. All the subtle cues towards people that rice their cars out, relating and comparing them to adolescents and what not. Then to cap it off with a go-kart race? LOL. Great punchline. Great video. Will subscribe.
Where can I find a Honda Civic Si HFP?
YEAH YEAH YEAH!! Agree with you on the hatchback! The Euro Civic is awesome, and I REALLY wish they would sell it over here!
What in the Limp Bizkit was he doing back then. CLASSIC!
I showed my pops this vid like 2 months a ago which led to a bunch of events like going looking at dealerships, test driving the si ultimately getting one for me, Im a high school student btw. The clutch response beautiful ! & also V-tech is fun as hell and seems more performing than in reality really fun to drive with with the friends & them Hoes : )
matt, i don't know if you've driven both, but if you have, which is more fun to drive: this or the golf gti? i might be getting a new (used) car soon, and i'm 17 years old, these two are at the top of my shopping list. which would you recommend in terms of overall ownership with fun-to-drive at the top of the list?
My fiance bought a Fit Sport on Friday. The salesman we dealt with told us that whenever somebody comes to try out a Civic, they end up switching to the Fit about 90% of the time. My fiance owned a Fit 1st gen before she got this one, and I can tell you it's a massive improvement. There's plenty of room in the back, it's got all kinds of neat standard features, and it's actually surprisingly sporty, despite its econo-car status. Hope you guys can find a stickshift one!
@TheSmokingTire you say no to a guy that came from the film crew of the fast and the furios on the r8 video and you end up driving a civic lol!!! by the way you are an amazing journalist men keep up the good work
Nice show dude u have a very amazing knowledge abt cars
Beautiful honda si. A lot of potential
the exhaust note is awesome!
so what do you recommend the best bang for the buck is in the civics category???
Either way, check ebay for knock-off brand name seats. They are half the price, and nearly as good.
very nice review matt! Thanks (:
