2007 Mercedes E350 4-Matic Rear Wheel Bearing Tips

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here are some tips I wanted to share from when I replaced the rear wheel bearings on a 2007 Mercedes E350 last week. Its not an end to end tutorial, there is some other info out on the internet and on you-tube regarding the e-brake and pressing a bearing in and out. I just wanted to hopefully help someone else out who does this job and maybe make sure they have the right tools to make the job easier.
Really I saw two options: 1) unbolt the entire rear knuckle to get it off and then remove the bearing from the knuckle or 2) unbolt the bearing from the knuckle using a long e-torx socket. I chose number two because I didn't want to remove all those suspension components.
Here is a link to the long e-torx tool set that I bought on Amazon for this job... a.co/6mggShO

Mike Berry you are the best. Thank you so much for this video. Just replaced both rear bearings without removing any of the suspension or the parking brake shoes. I already had the deep socket from a small set I bought on Amazon. At times it a bit frustrating getting to bolts both for removal and assembly. Definitely less work and disruptive to the other components doing it this way. Huge thanks for your help. You saved me a lot of time and grief. JC

Mercedes could have made this so much easier by having a bolt on bolt off hub. that fits the splined joint and contains the bearing, this is such a bad design and we have to rely on garages for specialist tools, a good video thank you.

Can you use a 3 jaw puller to pull the hub flange from the bearing assembly thats attached to the rear cv shaft? Was the slide hammer a must have tool for this job or is there a better method? Im about to do this to my E500. Thanks for the video btw.

You could use a 3 jaw to try to get the axle freed up inside of the hub if its siezed i guess. It won't help at all to get the bearing assembly out though. If i remember correctly there is a special tool the dealer has to pull these but this is the best method i could figure on the car i was working on using non factory tools. Keep in mind if you pull the flange out of the bearing you have less stuff to pull on or bang on to get it free.

@@techwrightauto I purchased the whole bearing and hub flange assembly online so I will be pulling them both out as one, I was curious if I could just unbolt the 4 external torx nuts on inside near axle shaft, and do like you did and tap it slowly working it off the cv axle?

Yes you should be able to do that. It is designed to come off as an assembly but corrosion is your enemy. Hopefully you live somewhere warm without salt all over your roads and life will be much easier for you. Btw if i remember correctly you can only loosen the bolts a little at a time because the cv shaft is in the way.

I have 2006 CLS 500 Mercedes Benz. Can you give me some tips on getting those four torx screws out if that lip on the cv axle budges out taking up about a 1/3 of the torx screw's head. It is preventing me from getting my E12 torx socket around the screw's head.

No, sorry. Is it the same vehicle in my video? You have to remove the spindle nut and push the joint back to get clearance i think.

It's not the same vehicle but it has the same bearing and wheel hub design.

I removed the entire wheel carrier assembly to get at those 4 torx bolts to remove bearing but this video shows how to avoid a lot of unnecessary work. Pushing the shaft thru hub is difficult but a must. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqel25qNlajJcZs.html
