2006 Focus Power Steering Pump Change

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here I start work on my latest project, a 2006 Ford Focus. It needed a new power steering pump and a good cleaning. Along the way I also discovered the leak which caused the pump to fail.

    Thanks for showing importsnt things we really need, like wrench sizes and it is VERY much helpful to show the item of interest off of the vehicle so that we can see clearly what it is we are fumbling around with in the greasy dark.

    Dad and brother just replaced mine ,but didn't see the new Teflon seal and o ring until it was on and boy is it pulling air. I'm hoping the seals are just bad and need to be replaced

    Just about to replace one - the Teflon seal on the lower line; is Teflon tape an option on the thread should my seal be bad..... Thanks. Great video...

    No, it is a semi-hard Teflon o-ring basically. The new pump came with a new one.

    Do you have to losen the belt in order to replace the steering fluid tank? Is that independent from the rest?

  • @nates831

    @nates831

    You don't have to remove the belt to remove the tank. The tank comes off by removing the top two bolts and disconnecting the hose from the front of the tank.

    When you did the Teflon seal, did it go all the way down to the end of the screw? I noticed there is a gap between threads 3/4 of the way down the screw.

    Yes, mine had a groove for the seal all the way down by the nut on the fitting.

    What was the symptom of your car? hard to steer?

  • @nates831

    When the pump begins to fail, generally you will hear the pump wine when turning. Especially at low speeds. The pump may also start to leak around the shaft as the bearings wear out. Once the pump fails completely the car will be very hard to steer. This owner had let the pump run dry and it seized, snapping off the pulley.

    Is there a way to take the reservoir out without taking the whole pump off?

    Nice, did u have to bleed the system?

  • @nates831

    @nates831

    5 жыл бұрын

    No, the fluid returns to the reservoir, so it bleeds itself. Just run the steering full left and right a few times and check the fluid level after.

    Did you have to burp or get the air out of the pump

  • @nates831

    No, power steering systems are vented, so you just need to fill it up, cycle the steering a few times, and top it off.

    Hammers can work, but you risk damaging the new pump by hammering on the pulley.
