    Thank you, watched a lot of videos. Done the same job on my 99 Silverado as well. But now I have to do it to my 2013 2500HD. Figured I’d brush back up on the job, nothing new to me but I know the pitman arm is quite a b****. By far your video did a good job. Like the work buddy.

    you can hold the nut and have someone crank the wheel if the nut on the pitman arm comes off hard makes it way easier

    I'm having an impossible time breaking loose that darn pitman arm from the steering rod. I'm going to try the pitman arm puller and heat it up like you did in the video and see if that works. I bought an air hammer a pickle chisel and neither of them worked.

  • @funcle_kevin

    @funcle_kevin

    3 ай бұрын

    I'm surprised the air hammer didn't work, but heat definitely should. If it's still stuck after applying the heat, you might try cutting a vertical line into the side of the pitman arm where it wraps around the steering gear post to weaken it a bit. Don't go all the way through or else you could damage the post, but a deep enough cut and a few whacks from the air hammer should do the trick.

    Just did this yesterday. It's a royal PIA. Now the tapered stud of the new pitman arm will not go deeper than the threads into the center link. Using a Moog K6654HD in a '05 GMC Sierra 4wd. No reason it should'nt fit... going back out this morning to try again.

    Don't stress out. If you've already popped off the tie rod and it still won't go in, try using either a C-clamp to pull the two surfaces together, or use a bottle jack to push up on the drag link (this method is a bit more tricky, but still doable). Whatever you do, definitely do not try to tighten the nut before the two surfaces are touching. You'll get to a point where the nut will strip the threads from the pitman arm and just spin freely (I've done this in the past so that others don't have to).

    @@funcle_kevin I finally determined the tapered stud was simply at angle that wasn’t aligned with the hole in the center link. Ended up using a floor jack & block to push the center link up onto the stud. Went very smooth.

    @@axelhazard7697 Once the tie rod is off, you should have no problem at all. If you do, don't hesitate to reach out. I can try to help you troubleshoot it, but the tie rod trick is pretty reliable from my experience.

    @@MariosLawnCare If both outers are all the way in, I'm thinking the pitman arm itself wasn't aligned properly. When you put the new pitman arm on, was the wheel straight? My best guess is that you were off by a tooth. When the wheel is straight, the pitman arm should also be straight. If that's not the case, pull it back off and try to realign it. It can only go on 4 ways, and the inners should be showing some thread. Let me know if this helped or created more questions. We'll figure it out somehow!
