I really like this guys video. He stays on track, no stories about his cousins uncles landscapers Audi was doing this or that. Straight forward. Here is the part, this is what it looks like when it fails, these are the codes it will trigger and what to do ie. change said part or just the gasket. Great delivery-he should do this for a living.

More universal b7 problems: driver’s side seat back will come unglued for no reason. Passenger glove console hinge will break on the rightmost side. You’ll lose a quart of oil every 1500-2k miles.

The oil dipstick pull ring breaks because it's made of plastic, the overflow hose that runs from the coolant bucket to the radiator, the little nipple that fits snug inside the hose to then connect to the radiator goes bad. What a problem to have. If you didn't know any better you would go to Audi and buy the hose with the clamps and think it's a 10 min job. WRONG. The flex pipe cracks like every 2-3 years no matter what you do.
I wish there was a video like this when I bought my b7 I’ve had to deal with everything on this list the hard way 😂

Great video! I've basically done all of these fixes on my Audi A4 B7. They are honestly pretty cheap and cheap to diy. The coolant flange is a PITA for sure. The AC issues are usually the internal servos failing to turn the car to recirc. AC will only work like 80 and below. After parking it's bad. That's because it sucks in super hot air from the front instead of inside the car. You just have to pull the motors off the flaps and spin them a few times. Ac fixed! Love my B7 but she's a maintenance queen.

Been through all this and more, I believe the n75 valve is also an issue, for lack of boost. There's also loads of problems with vacuum and boost leaks, my latest set back has took weeks to find and then I found another. Firstly the crankcase breather hose was split so fixed that, then find my vacuum pump is leaking oil and also pulling air so another vacuum leak. Hope this information may help someone. This is a great summary of everything that happens with the B7 and what I have experienced thus far. If I dare to say, I would add the faulty turbocharger. I had to replace mine after I replaced the diverter valve and kept getting the P0299 fault code. Also, not too sure if this applies to anyone out there but the cleat coat and paint on my hood started to flake off on the passenger side probably due to the faulty turbocharger.

Great vid, I have done most of these fixes, currently I keep carbon fouling plugs. I replaced coil packs with the red bosch from ECS. would getting a hotter spark plug fix it? Do you think the injectors are bad? I would like to do carbon clean up on intake, do you have video for this? The car has 113k on it. Also maybe change the the fuel filter/pressure regulator? All the plugs carbon foul, then car stalls, Im getting misfiring and running rich codes. What do you think?
I have 104k and have done the timing belt with water pump, a couple of the ones you mentioned. Recently the ac compressor failed and have to replace that but fall is here so no hurry with that now. The plastic coolant hose on the back side of the engine concerns me after watching this. The cam follower for the fuel pump is a must do and will do again in 50k more miles. Nice looking car but continuous maintenance

@CraftyWorkshopBuilds
2 жыл бұрын
Much respect, yaadie for sure! Yea, it's good to keep up with maintenance. The carbon build up might prevent the valves from closing properly. Once you rule out everything else that might cause the misfire, you could visually inspect the valves or do a compression test.

Your videos are really well done and easy to follow. Thank you for taking the time. My Audi A4 B7 consumes a lot of oil. I have also heard that these cars are notorious for oil consumption. For a long time I was having to replenish the oil every 800-1000 miles. Then at some point it dropped to less than 500 miles to a quart. When I noticed that the VCG was leaking oil onto the engine and into spark plug wells. I managed to successfully change them thanks to your video. However I sense the car is still burning oil than when I first got the car a few years back and wondering if it might be connected to a faulty turbo seal. the car is not throwing up any error codes. However, the other day I was getting on the highway and the car felt like it was having a slight hesitation around 2k rpm for a few seconds. then I saw a spew of grey smoke and noticeable smell in the cabin . Then all clear and car was driving fine after that. It's happened a few times. Almost like some kind of a buildup that needs to release every once in a while. There is a hole in the muffler which I plan on fixing. if this was a sign of a turbo going bad should I expect an error code?
@hialtitudeman
Жыл бұрын
To follow up. It turned out to be a crack in the valve cover itself. Found one at the junk yard. Since then smoke issue resolved. Oil consumption much much better.

I don’t know where the oil goes in mine???? It doesn’t smoke . No visible signs of leaks?? It just goes off into another dimension.
@hialtitudeman
Жыл бұрын
@@kenalderson568 If you're getting above 2000 km per quart, I was told by several mechanics that this is normal for this engine. Though I have a friend with same car who doesn't seem to experience any oil loss at all. So, who really knows. However, if you've experienced ever-increasing oil consumption over time, check for cracks in the valve cover itself. Especially, along the edge near the PCV valve outlet. That was my issue and restored my oil consumption issue back above the "normal" range.

Much respect and welcome to the Crafty family. I'm not sure about the exact location of the diverter valve on the a6, but it should be on the turbo, attached with three little hex bolts.
I’m glad I came across this video. I just took ownership of a 2007 A4. The very first problem you discussed was spot-on, now I know why car takes a few tries after refueling
Good video! Question, i have a A6 with the same engine. Is it possible to change timing belt ( front ) and cam chain ( back ) with engine in the car? Or must the engine be removed entirely? Keep up the good videos! 👍

you could definitely do the timing belt with the motor in. I'm not sure if you'll have enough space to remove the bolt for the chain at the back. But I was able to remove chain on the b7 audi with the motor in, it was a tight fit for my tools, but it worked.
I just replaced the purge valve & the camshaft position sensor. My car would smell like gas in the cabin every morning. It doesn’t anymore but if you have any tips on what else I should look out for it would be very helpful 🎉

If Cylinder number 4 is misfiring, you could try swapping the coil pack with another cylinder and see if the misfire goes to the other cylinder.
Hi, with the coolant flange will there be a coolant leak? My car seems to drink a lot of coolant but I can never seem to see any spillage overnight when I check the next day

@@steezyg9746 These engines have a timing belt and a small chain at the back.. sometimes the tensioner on the small chain goes bad and will need to be replaced. Yes, I've replaced both the timing belt and chain on these engines.

High mileage engines to me is 200,000 miles. But I work on cars, so maybe that's too high for someone who doesn't know how to fix cars.
How long approximately is it for one to change both the valve cover gasket and oil filter housing? Looking to see how much time I need to give myself
