Thanks for the video! It was a big help. Probably saved me about $300 bucks. The follower was ready to be replaced after about 40,000 miles. Originally it failed at about 81,000 miles with catastrophic damage, but was covered under warranty. This time I caught it at the right time. Most of the black coating was worn off except around the edges, but no apparent damage. Getting access to the Banjo bolt fuel line was the biggest challenge and took about a half hour to get off, but reinstalled in minutes. My 2006 GTI is stock and I don't drive it hard. As it happened, I did not put on the stud kit due to clearance issues. I couldn't get the fuel pump back on without pushing hoses and lines, and didn't feel comfortable forcing anything. In retrospect I could have removed the brass fuel fitting to the pump to get the clearance and then reinstalled it after mounting the pump. I was pressed for time then. Maybe next time, if I still have the car. All in all a great learning experience though. Kris

I have a 2007 A4 2.0t. I found that using a 1/4" ratchet to a 12" extension with a u-joint to the 8mm triple square was the easiest. I couldn't get my stubby 1/4" ratchet with my hand in there like the video. Also doing it this way I didn't need to remove the PCV tube. Once it was loose I used a magnet tool to keep it from falling into the engine bay.

Just got an '07 Passat 2.0T. I'm not sure exactly which engine it has, but I will find out ASAP. I do like the ease of the HPFP removal to inspect that cam follower. This would be a couple hour job it seems the first time, then it would be much easier once you figured out that stubby 17 is where it's at. Well done video. Thanks for posting. You're now on my list.

I replaced my fuel pump and cam follower with parts supplied by your store. When I did the job I noticed the cam was a little grooved, not horrible very mild. I understand there are chances of possible camshaft failure but is it possible because of how mild the grooves were, that the camshaft would last for a bit of time with care?

Whats to prevent the whole stud from coming out, next change, with the Nyloc coated nuts gripping the stud? Unless the studs are put in with MORE torque than the recommended 8Nm. If the smooth center of the stud were squared or knurled, pliers seem to just spin around the shaft.

What if your stock hpfp doesn’t have a shrader valve or inlet? The new hpfp that I bought from ecs tuning has the inlet but I don’t actually have a schrader valve to swap over because the original pump did not come with one stock. Do I just buy a new valve and put it on? I don’t think you can just leave that open.

I have an Audi 2.0 Quattro 2006. I recently bought it and the check engine light came on. I have been told its relating to the HPFP code P0089. I have so far changed the senor, filter and regulator. But the check engine light come on intermittently. I do not feel any loss of power or hesitation. the car runs very well apart from a diesel like sound. My mechanic told me this noise is normal for direct injection engines such as my audi fsi. The car does not shake on idle nor while driving high speeds. I do notice that the HPFP does make noise especially when the engine is cold. But I also inspected the pump, and cam follower as well as the cam shaft the look like new. So I just can't figure why this light keeps coming back on. I am also changing my N80 valve because I do notice ticking noise coming from he old one. Any suggestions>

How good is your aftermarket cam follower? Is it wise to go with an updated dealer part of would an aftermarket suffice? I definitely like the stud conversation idea, that seems to have simplified the process somewhat.

Hi, Paul, Do I need a torque wrench for this at any point? I watched another video on replacing the pump and he used a torque wrench for the t30s and everything else I think. Also, how will I know if the cam is damaged? Thanks!

Yeah it's 9.5 Nm torque. And the follower is damaged if the black part has reduced too much. Completely dead if you see a convex hole in it.

I know this video is 4 years old, but I just replaced my HPFP on my mkv GTI because the top sensor was broken. And I followed all the steps, but my car was still idling rough and had the same p2294 code. Any advice, does it need to run longer to even out?

I just bought the conversion kit but was wondering how you installed the studs themselves? How did you mount the nut onto the stud in order to screw the stud in all of the way?

+Aaron Ridgeway They should thread in by hand. We also recommend installing blue loc tite on the end that goes to the engine.

Got a question or two I'm hoping someone who's done this can answer. When I was trying to remove the HPFP to do this, I was able to get just about everything disconnected and bleed the schrader valve but I couldn't get the 3 bolts holding it to unscrew, I tried a regular screw driver, electronic screw driver, and a regular drill with no budge, not sure if whoever worked on it last over tightened it or if I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not too sure how else to get them off. Also, is it necessary to remove the rubber line and hardline to do this? I heard it was possible to move the pump enough to replace the follower but I have some doubts on whether that's safe to do or not, I'd figure it wouldn't be a good idea. Anyone else who's done this deal with that or know what to do? I've got a spare set of bolts but I've read somewhere they might not fit with the HPFP so I'd rather use them as a last resort.

I've read that you want to replace any FSI cam follower with an aftermarket version because the one that Audi/VW manufacture wear faster and hinder performance somehow

I believe that with the TSI they updated it with an actual moving wheel on the follower to avoid issues like this.
