Bumps you dont feel. Straights that aren't straight. Then the car. Car wouldn't handle or break the same way. Too many variables in real life. The guy on here beat F1 drivers. But bet he couldn't even do a 2.10min lap.

The weather may have been wet, but at least that gamers personality was dry as f*ck

They should have sent him around the course in the Reneault.

The think the simulation is unrealistically fast, there were parts the sim was flooring it in third, virtually going straight over grass verges to cut the small corners Alex in real life couldn't do this, he'd catch the first patch of grass with one side and spin out or tail slap after correcting More physics need to be involved in the game, Alex's time, in a near 16 year old car not built for a track, was phenomenal

Project Cars 3 is not a very realistic sim racing game. The sim racer had a better car, much more practice and sat comfortably in his home. His lap time wasn't very good, all things considered.

yeah seems super weird to not compare apples to apples, I guess there wasn't a 182 in the game? A GT86 seems a weird second best though, RWD not front FWD and with substantially more power. A much more interesting comparison would have been Alex in the sim and the Sim driver in the Clio IRL, but the sim guy seemed pretty put out just being at the track so I very much doubt he would have gloved up and potentially have lost by quite a wide margin.

That gaming dude had sooooo much personality, it was oozing out of his ego holes.

That sim driver seemed like such a tool. It's easy to be smug, when you drive a simulated game, in a rwd car with about 20hp more and no consequences to worry about. In real life, i'm damn sure Alex would win by a mile!

With a proper rig the experience gets pretty close to irl, I have experience of both. Throw in vr and you will 100% shit your pants if you crash. The only thing sim racing doesn't convey are elevation changes and g-forces.

@Seamus McShamish 100% agree. Being in a real car (coming from someone who has only done sim racing) is definitely way scarier in the sense that there is actual fear. Sim racing is completely risk free, he would have definitely cracked under pressure in a real car.

I have to say, for a 16-year-old car with 110,000 miles it held up exceptionally well getting thrashed around a track lap after lap. Well done Clio. And even better news - it passed its MOT on the 25th of October 2020 so the guys are hopefully looking to keep it around!

Just gonna mention he’s setting laps on Project Cars 3 which is arguably the worst game in recent times in terms of how realistic it is so probably not the best comparison to real life 😂

Alex is an absolutely brilliant driver. I loved watching that last lap. Seeing more of Alex hammering around a track from the perspective of an in-car camera would be awesome!

This really makes me want to drive on Cadwell park!! First The Grand Tour with the Lotus Cortina, then Fifth Gear in the Morgan etc. And now you guys!!

@@Deivs65 I know there are a handful of sim-racers that have done well in racing, but just because you can set a fast time on Project Cars 3 doesn't mean you are a driving god. Most of the ones who are now racing professionally also did some kind of track driving/racing along with sim racing. I don't think he would've gone round much faster in that thing with knackered old tyres and road brakes. Shame they didn't show a full onboard video of Alex's fastest lap so we could really see how he was doing.

I’ve had 172/182/197 225 Megane and now have a 250 Megane, I’d do anything for my 172 back was such a perfect car I love it, if you get one mate never let it go

@@v4-goose147 never had any issues with any of mine, but anything else I’ve had vxrs and sts are all crap even my s4 spent more time in the garage than on the road😂

Good to see you out at the track! You know you'd probably enjoy doing a round of the BRSCC MX-5 Championship in 2021. We're not very good and always get close racing somewhere in the midfield. Just putting it out there...

A very cool episode, and a big props to the Clio! Remember Top Gear and the Clio V6, the first car that didn't break on the track in the hands of the stig!

Alex you're killing it! Driving an old Clio which is not in peak condition yet managing to be a few secs behind a pro Sim Racer! Even casual sim gamers could not get that time in the wet! This episode reminds me of the top gear episode when Clarkson tried to match his speed taking the corkscrew in Laguna Seca Raceway in Gran Turismo with an NSX, it's close to impossible due to how the body is also thrown away side to side compared to do it on a stable seat in game

I'm so happy that it's not yet another old bmw! And that you eventually got the 182 you talked about years ago. Great vid!

I really like these 182’s and would love to buy one as a toy to fiddle with if I had the space for a third car. Not fast by modern standards but they’re cheap and lots of fun.

​@@MrGibblescast fthe belt was actually quite new, probably tensioner or something went bad since it had 275k km on the clock when shit hit the fan.

Caldwell park is a beautiful track. Also, that clio 182 sounds glorious.

Definitely feeling those old top gear vibes in this one! Great work on this one! The car had a lot of weight so next time, should probably take out the seats in the car to reduce weight.

at this point this is kinda top gear UK where Ethan is James May, Jack is Richard Hammond and Alex is Jeremy Clarksson but not fat.

Personality wise yes, in terms of car knowledge for Jack yes but for the other 2 it would swap around as James May knows more about the mechanics and scientific parts of cars than Jeremy does.

Before watching this video: Sounds like something with 4 or less cylinders. When suggesting cars: Clio 172/182 (thought to be out of price range). I proceed to look on AutoTrader and see Clio 182 for £1450 (Edit: Ethan discovered that one). Proceeds to find a beautiful black one. It’s a shame I’m American. You European people get the best hot hatches.

Clio 182's are awesome, but cheap one's are code for - it needs cambelt and dephaser doing!

The car had bad brakes and crap tyres on the back, it had an oil issue aswell or something I think they said, so shredding weight won't have made any real difference. The car was far from track ready

A chair and a wheel on some high specked PC does not simulate a race track lap challenge scenario. Not even close. No g-forces, no risk, no nothing. You can't imagine how hard, how physically and mentally tiring it is to drive fast on a race track. You have to experience that for yourself. It looks easy, but it ain't! On a sim you only get some of the sensation, but nothing real. I've had a Logitech G27 in the past, it was really fun! But only when I went to the race track, in a real car, I realized what it actually took to drive a car fast! Great (actual) driving Alex!

You guys should definitely do a track car series with this little nugget!
