20 Gypsy jazz violin Licks for Dark Eyes

Музыка

Dark Eyes, also known as Les Yeux Noirs, has been a gypsy jazz standard since it was recorded by Django Reinhardt in 1940. This Gypsy Jazz violin lesson shows how to play a solo using 20 gypsy jazz violin licks. We are guided through the chord sequence to see how each lick can work within the solo. Techniques and ideas include arpeggio licks, harmonic minor scale licks, parallel fifths, blues licks, making the chords do the work, following one chord into the next and so on.
These ideas are further described in my books" Exploring Jazz Violin" and "Beginning Jazz violin:, published by Schott.;

    Great stuff Chris. Besides your skill as fiddle player and teacher, I appreciate the time and hard work you put into the excellent video content and editing. Not to mention your dedication and stickability in posting regular videos, it's an inspiration 👍

    Hi Brendan. Thanks so much- that means a lot coming from you. I'm constantly aware of my failings in every department from writing to lighting to narration to playing, but fortunately I have a sense of humour and don't take myself too seriously. The perfect is the enemy of the possible! I'm determined that by the time life gets back to normal I'll have created something substantial and worthwhile, and the time won't have been wasted. And comments like yours help to keep me going!

    @@Sandmangibson Hi. Exploring jazz violin covers all the basic theory and technique you'll need for Gypsy Jazz. It doesn't have examples of standards, but as you'll see there are plenty of those on the fiddle channel. There is as a section specifically on gypsy jazz.

    I'd been afraid to play this in case neighbours thought I was a Russian sympathiser, lol! But its Russianness is tenuous. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Eyes_(Russian_song) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florian_Hermann
