Let us not forget Day lily, Canna Lily (neither are real lilies) and Dahlias! * There are dahlia growers that use a heavy pesticide schedule, and the toxins may be in the plant when it is first acquired. Once you have started your own (very edible) dahlia tubers, the flowers should be safe to consume - or purchase your first tubers from a grower that does not poison their plants.

My dog absolutely loves eating my morning glories. I’ll have a couple with him...but he just goes crazy for them, he gives me a sad look when I eat one, like “hey, that was mine” 😂

I'm just asking here, not accusing anyone of anything, I'm just honestly curious. Aren't Morning Glories poisonous? I mean, I suppose not if you are here to tell the tale and I'm assuming your pup is too. :) I have a pupper myself who likes to eat EVERYTHING, and I don't want to put poison plants in my backyard at least so I try my best to look into whether one is or not before I buy it or buy the seeds. I love Morning Glories, though they grow like weeds here in N. Florida if you let them. I was hoping to put some off the front porch to vine around my posts...but keep reading they are poison. :(. Do I know not to believe everything I read? Yes, which is why I'm asking. I get so many different answers about the same plants. Thank you kindly in advance for even reading this. 😇

@@we2824 not poisonous, at least the flower part isn’t. I’ve also heard that the seeds that it produces are known to be hallucinogenic…I’ve ate quite a few a little at a time and haven’t experienced anything yet😂 One thing I know for sure is be very sure of where you grow them, because once you have them, you will NEVER not have them. I started growing them on a fence for the privacy factor, and they do an excellent job of that! You can keep them under control somewhat with a hoe, by attacking them when they first pop up👌

I love the nasturtium flowers. They remind me of a spicy-ish broccoli. They grow wild in my area so there’s an over abundance of them. I grow them in my gardens too but they’re also out in the woods around hiking trails. I didn’t know pansies were edible, so now I’m gonna have to plant some and give them a try. Maybe they’ll attract some more bees so I can possibly get some help with pollination. John is my FAVORITE “dude who just grows stuff”, I’ve learned tons from him over the years. I wouldn’t even know what REAL fresh veggies tasted like if I hadn’t stumbled onto his channel all those years ago. My mom was all about frozen bags of veggies when I was younger. She said “frozen vegetables are way more nutritious than anything you can get at the store”. I introduced her to John’s channel a few years ago and she has completely changed her tune on that statement. Now she buys seeds. John changed my life in that regard. Gardening is the best, most rewarding hobby any person can possibly have. Happy growing✌️

Turmeric flowers are edible, and have a slight peppery taste - but I never see them here unless I'm growing indoors. Ginger flowers may be edible, depending on the variety of ginger - culinary gingers are edible, and SOME ornamental gingers are edible, but not all.

I will be growing the allyssum this year in purple and yellow. so would love to try that, and my Blue-eyed African daisies when they come up. HAD to have those when I saw the seed packet because everyone in my family has blue eyes. I also appreciate what you said about the Tong Ho. I just this evening got a seed order in and that is one of the new greens I bought to try for the green and the flower. Tatsoi was my one last season. Just lovely. A must if you've never tried it. Especially the baby leaves. I just found your channel and this was my first video to watch. Thank you for the wonderful info. and view of your garden.

No nasturtium or zucchini flowers John? Those are my favorites but I’ve only really eaten around 5-6 different edible flowers. I do really like radish seed pods as well but nasturtium are the ones I use in many recipes or just eat as a little snack while working in the garden. I usually eat male zucchini flowers right after I pollinate the female with them. We don’t have a lot of bees in my area so I tend to do more pollination than the bees do. It gives me a good excuse to eat the flowers and I get a lot more male flowers than female ones.
